Let's just say that if Bucky and Steve are just interacting in a scene for 2 minutes, no fights, no big event happening, the directors and the characters would have to address the intimacy between them because it's clearly obvious. So, instead of leading with this, they just take Bucky's screentime, with or without Steve. And I think that's a shame, not only because I'm a big Stucky shipper (sry but it makes too much fucking sense), but because he's a great character on his own and we could've been so much deeper into his character arc...

Honestly, since Chris Evans' contract was ending, him taking the jump off Vormir's cliffs would have been a much better ending for Steve. We know that Chris Evans wasn't going to come back to the MCU, and I just feel like that would have been painful - insanely painful - but better than the ending we got.

At first, it was because they wanted to wrap up Tony and Steve's arcs. Afterward, activists took over the writer's room and made the MCU all about identity politics and are spitting on every white man they come across.
I got a theory and I just wanna say it. You wonder why all the male characters were wearing suits at Tony's funeral. Except Bucky with the black jacket. What I think is that Bucky thought Tony didn't want him at his funeral. And he had to get ready last minute because he *was* wanted at the funeral. Him being self conscious of what he did to Tony. And so getting ready last minute you don't know what to wear. So he just grabbed the darkest think he owned. And that's why he wants wearing a suit Tell me if I'm wrong. Maybe I am wrong. I think Sam getting the shield was for the better. Steve was always America's golden boy, the perfect representation of what's right. Now imagine what Bucky would feel if he had to feel the constant pressure of living up to Steve's status, because he already feels like he's unworthy of redeeming himself. His character arc was just right, Bucky not getting the shield was for the best. Loved the video tho and I also agree, he shouldn't have been dusted!!
Huge Bucky fan here. I would really love to see that. But as strong as he would be as the winter soldier, I still feel like thanos could have broken his metal arm easily with his power. Like he could have used one of the stones to destroy Bucky’s arm or something and hurt him real bad. I feel like the Scarlet Witch would be the only avenger who could actually handle him at that moment.

The only issue with Cap and Bucky going to Vormir - as super soldiers. there's a chance that they would have survived the fall. Bucky already survived the fall in First Avenger, and Cap survived the plane crash in the same movie. It would be difficult to justify that in Endgame.

Even if it would've crushed my heart, Bucky sacrificing himself in Vormir (after being forgiven by Tony) for Steve to get the mind stone would have been great writing. Wouldn't have changed the fact that Steve was going in the past with Tony and saw Peggy again. It would've made even more sense for Steve to go back and stay in the past since Bucky (a reminder of his past all along in the mcu movies) is "at peace" now. Wouldn't even stop Steve from giving the shield to Sam. Bucky would have had the redemption he needed and would've had been recognized like the hero he truly was in the first place. Not that it won't happen in the real MCU, but still. Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy that we got to have Bucky in FAWS and even more in the future (more Sebastian Stan for us), but damn, that whole missed storyline is a shame. Also, now I need that version of the movie!
Loved the video. Well thought out What If. But as a fellow Bucky fan, I'd say be open minded for the Falcon & Winter Soldier, as Bucky could still end up with the shield. Something temporary or permanent could happen to Falcon. Also Mackie handed Stan the shield on stage at a Comic Con, maybe a tease of what could come.
People are forgetting that Bucky is probably not ready to take up the shield, even Sebastian himself said so. He was a brainwashed weapon like two movies ago. He just got freed of his conditioning and still needs time to figure himself out and be his own person, then he can take up the shield. Besides, it seems like he's being groomed to be a part of the future Black Panther movies, what with being called the White Wolf.

Huge part of the plot of Falcon and the Winter Soldier is going to be about the US government not accepting relatively unproblematic Sam as the next Captain America. Giving the shield to still wanted former brainwashed assassin would cause even bigger shitstorm. And just because Bucky didn't get the shield doesn't mean there won't be fun things for him to do or that that he won't get it in the future when he's ready to assume the role.

@@alexzaragoza161 Well, the writers and the Russos don't agree on whether he did that in the same timeline. If his timeline was a separate one, he could very well change some events and save Bucky before his future self is defrosted, expose Hydra and save Howard.
5:57 You know, something just occurred to me. The shield Steve gave Sam at the end of Endgame was from an alternate timeline. So, what happened to the shattered shield that was broken by Thanos during the fight?
Bucky needed to be dusted to play into Infinity War's theme of balance and unbalance when the ying and yang separated and for Steve to understand losing everything as opposed to still having a little left which Endgame was about getting a second chance for getting back what you lost. If he survived it would of muddled the theme and make Steve's arc muddled

Something interesting is that Howard was part of how Zola was able to turn Bucky into the winter soldier. Zola was invited to work for shield and the us along with other hydra scientists after ww2. That was how Zola was able to find Bucky and finish his experimentation on him. Then Zola tortured and brainwashed Bucky into becoming the winter soldier. Without the recources and freedom shield gave him he would have been unable to find Bucky, and to regrow hydra. Howard, Peggy and Colonel Phillips were the three founders of shield, and they would have to approve Zola working for them. We also see that Howard and Zola were working together in endgame, when Steve and Tony go to 1970 for the tesseract. Of course Howard was not aware of any of this, but he and anyone else who enabled Zola to get the freedom and recources he did still played a part in what happend. And they made their choices, unlike Bucky who never had one.
They have completely underused The Winter Soldier. In one movie they correctly show he is Caps equal physically and one of the most skilled fighters, marksmen and tacticians there is...a real force to be reckoned with. In the following movies he all of a sudden is less physically powerful and not even half as menacing as he used to be.

Initial reports for Thunderbolts are not good. Filming for a month and he hasn't even been seen on set yet. It seems to be more about Yelena. I fear the simple truth is that the MCU writers don't care about Bucky anymore... which is a crying shame. He doesn't just have a lot of potential, he's arguably one of the smartest characters and has a lot of the qualities of a good leader. People sometimes forget that he initially outranked Steve in the army: Steve didn't have any military rank until he pulled that stunt with the prison camp, and then was given basically an honourary promotion for his service. I recall that shot in The First Avenger where it shows the two of them on an operation which kind of illustrates the differences in their personality. Whereas Steve is kind of posing for the camera Bucky is thoroughly absorbed looking at maps of the terrain. He's planning and thinking things through whereas Steve is just... being Steve.
I wish Bucky had a bigger role in infinity war and endgame. I honestly cried when I thought Bucky had died for good after being dusted. Bucky Barnes forever❤️🖤🤍🥰

I think it would have been interesting like you said, having him work it out with Tony, and going to get the Power stone with Nebula. For sure wouldn't have wanted him to go get the Soul stone with Steve cause then he would be gone and Steve would probably still go back to Peggy, and then Sam would be alone to carry the Cap mantle and that's sad. But I strongly disagree with Bucky and the shield, maybe it would have been different if he hadn't been dusted, but I was and am SO on board with Sam being Cap. And I'm actually lowkey insulted that anyone thinks Bucky needs the shield to become his own hero? Even the broken one? Like no. He doesn't. And he is proving that now I think that TFATWS is over. He's becoming his own hero (though its not complete yet), and he's supporting Sam, while Sam is supporting him. They are two halves of a whole Cap legacy, while rising above it at the same time (literally in Sam's case, 'cause wings).

In the comics Bucky did get the shield before Sam Wilson. The Russo brothers though were right, they said Bucky would be too traumatised to be placed into that position and without yet having been pardoned for his actions as WS, the rest of the world would not have just accepted him.

The more I watch this video the better it gets, especially the part about him and Nebula. Bucky is one of my favorite characters, and it's always a little bit sad to be reminded of how little screen time he has. If they made Endgame with Bucky in it, it would be way more interesting and tie up some loose ends. Plus I might watch it more.
His second arm was made by Shuri right so it's the same material as Captain Shield. Can it be possible for Shuri to get him a upgrade to his arm like have parts of his arm, like his forearm, turn into a shield when he is fighting hand to hand and it could be use as a defense. I agree. Bucky is a criminally under-rated and under-used character who doesn't get nearly enough of a role in the movies. I for one would have loved to have seen him interact and work more with the original Avengers Team as I think he would have had a great deal to contribute. He should have been a lot more than just a machine-gun wielding badass dude in IF and Endgame. He has abilities and qualities which lend themselves to a lot more. Despite being damaged and broken by what HYDRA did to him, Bucky is also very smart and has a good head for strategy. You can see that to an extent in The First Avenger and a little bit in Ciivil War. He's also calmer and more level-headed that Steve and Tony. Tony tends to be ruled by emotions, whereas Bucky comes over as much more logical and stoic. Yes, he's wracked with guilt about his past, but I think he's able to put that aside when bigger things are at stake. Again, if the movies allowed him to have more screentime you could see it more but you get the odd hint. Whereas Steve will go in guns blazing and rely on old-fashioned heroics, or waste time talking Bucky will just get down to business and get things done quickly and efficiently and what's more he tends to plan in advance. Remmeber he was in an elite commando unit in WW2, and a sniper no less. Dude knows his onions when it comes to warfare. We should have got more sniper Bucky, taking out the bad guys with a single shot before they knew what hit them, instead of slow-mo explosions and devestation. The Avengers, for all I think they are cool aren't great when it comes to fighting. They cause a lot of uncesssary destruction and collateral damage... that's not Bucky's way at all. He's much more a "don't needlessly sacrifice anybody if you can do the job cleanly and efficiently by other means" guy. What's more, Bucky *respects* his opponents even if he doesn't like them. Tony tends to just be arrogant and assume he's better but Bucky actually looks at the strengths in their planning or approach. That's actually a good quality in a leader, because it means you are less likely to underestimate enemies or be blindsided. In short, I think Bucky would have been very well placed to deal with someone like Thanos by doing more than just firing at some space dogs...
I think something that could happen when it comes to War Machine in this What If is this, he and Bucky are swapped. This would keep the whole thing people noticed that half the Avengers in Infinity War were snapped, and could even further fuel Tony’s anger towards Bucky at the beginning since he just lost to Thanos which he saw from his vision in Age of Ultron, and in the process he lost two people who were like a son and brother to him in Peter and Rhodey so he’s even more furious now. I do like how all four of the OG Iron Man trilogy characters survived but for this scenario, I can give or take that whole thing
I understand seeing it in terms of Tony, as Tony is like the leader, and tension makes for good storytelling, but I really think Bucky is under-used even in this scenario. Bucky actually has a lot of the qualities of a good leader, including a calm and generally level-headed nature, a good head for strategy, respect for his opponents, and understanding the consequences of his actions and descisions. Not many of the characters in the MCU seem to have those qualities. I personally don't think he'd do something impulsive like saving someone unless it served the greater objective, because that's just how his mind works. He actually deserves to have some leadership role because I think he'd do a good job.

I was given a list of the Marvel movies to watch and instantly fell in love with what/how Bucky was. I too, after seeing him die and the fact that he was the first to die, was upset because there could have been so many ways to use him. there could have been so many different things that could have happened...what if he hadn't lost his arm when fighting iron man--what if his arm got ripped off during another fight? what if he hadn't gone to Wakanda yet, never got his mind right? what if in the blip years, bucky lost control in front of Steve and then he leaves---going to Wakanda to then get treatment, not being fully successful but partly there---then when it was time to come together and fight, he got a new arm. then after steve comes back old, and then after that, he goes back and finishes his treatment. why didn't we get this??

I think Sam getting the shield was for the better. Steve was always America's golden boy, the perfect representation of what's right. Now imagine what Bucky would feel if he had to feel the constant pressure of living up to Steve's status, because he already feels like he's unworthy of redeeming himself. His character arc was just right, Bucky not getting the shield was for the best. Loved the video tho and I also agree, he shouldn't have been dusted!!

Huge Bucky fan here. I would really love to see that. But as strong as he would be as the winter soldier, I still feel like thanos could have broken his metal arm easily with his power. The only issue with Cap and Bucky going to Vormir - as super soldiers. there's a chance that they would have survived the fall. Bucky already survived the fall in First Avenger, and Cap survived the plane crash in the same movie. It would be difficult to justify that in Endgame.

Even if it would've crushed my heart, Bucky sacrificing himself in Vormir (after being forgiven by Tony) for Steve to get the mind stone would have been great writing. Wouldn't have changed the fact that Steve was going in the past with Tony and saw Peggy again. It would've made even more sense for Steve to go back and stay in the past since Bucky (a reminder of his past all along in the mcu movies) is "at peace" now. Wouldn't even stop Steve from giving the shield to Sam. Bucky would have had the redemption he needed and would've had been recognized like the hero he truly was in the first place. Not that it won't happen in the real MCU, but still.
Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy that we got to have Bucky in FAWS and even more in the future (more Sebastian Stan for us), but damn, that whole missed storyline is a shame.

Loved the video. Well thought out What If. But as a fellow Bucky fan, I'd say be open minded for the Falcon & Winter Soldier, as Bucky could still end up with the shield. Something temporary or permanent could happen to Falcon. Also Mackie handed Stan the shield on stage at a Comic Con, maybe a tease of what could come.

People are forgetting that Bucky is probably not ready to take up the shield, even Sebastian himself said so. He was a brainwashed weapon like two movies ago. He just got freed of his conditioning and still needs time to figure himself out and be his own person, then he can take up the shield. Besides, it seems like he's being groomed to be a part of the future Black Panther movies, what with being called the White Wolf.

Huge part of the plot of Falcon and the Winter Soldier is going to be about the US government not accepting relatively unproblematic Sam as the next Captain America. Giving the shield to still wanted former brainwashed assassin would cause even bigger shitstorm. And just because Bucky didn't get the shield doesn't mean there won't be fun things for him to do or that that he won't get it in the future when he's ready to assume the role.

@@alexzaragoza161 Well, the writers and the Russos don't agree on whether he did that in the same timeline. If his timeline was a separate one, he could very well change some events and save Bucky before his future self is defrosted, expose Hydra and save Howard.

Bucky needed to be dusted to play into Infinity War's theme of balance and unbalance when the ying and yang separated and for Steve to understand losing everything as opposed to still having a little left which Endgame was about getting a second chance for getting back what you lost. Please make one for 'What if Quicksilver had survived Age of Ultron'... This idea has been in my mind for a long time. And Quicksilver was actually suppose to survive.
Something interesting is that Howard was part of how Zola was able to turn Bucky into the winter soldier. Zola was invited to work for shield and the us along with other hydra scientists after ww2. That was how Zola was able to find Bucky and finish his experimentation on him. Then Zola tortured and brainwashed Bucky into becoming the winter soldier. Without the recources and freedom shield gave him he would have been unable to find Bucky, and to regrow hydra. Howard, Peggy and Colonel Phillips were the three founders of shield, and they would have to approve Zola working for them. We also see that Howard and Zola were working together in endgame, when Steve and Tony go to 1970 for the tesseract. Of course Howard was not aware of any of this, but he and anyone else who enabled Zola to get the freedom and recources he did still played a part in what happend. And they made their choices, unlike Bucky who never had one.
They have completely underused The Winter Soldier. In one movie they correctly show he is Caps equal physically and one of the most skilled fighters, marksmen and tacticians there is...a real force to be reckoned with. In the following movies he all of a sudden is less physically powerful and not even half as menacing as he used to be.

Initial reports for Thunderbolts are not good. Filming for a month and he hasn't even been seen on set yet. It seems to be more about Yelena. I fear the simple truth is that the MCU writers don't care about Bucky anymore... which is a crying shame. He doesn't just have a lot of potential, he's arguably one of the smartest characters and has a lot of the qualities of a good leader.
People sometimes forget that he initially outranked Steve in the army: Steve didn't have any military rank until he pulled that stunt with the prison camp, and then was given basically an honourary promotion for his service. I recall that shot in The First Avenger where it shows the two of them on an operation which kind of illustrates the differences in their personality. Whereas Steve is kind of posing for the camera Bucky is thoroughly absorbed looking at maps of the terrain. He's planning and thinking things through whereas Steve is just... being Steve.
I wish Bucky had a bigger role in infinity war and endgame. I honestly cried when I thought Bucky had died for good after being dusted. Bucky Barnes forever❤️🖤🤍🥰

I think it would have been interesting like you said, having him work it out with Tony, and going to get the Power stone with Nebula. For sure wouldn't have wanted him to go get the Soul stone with Steve cause then he would be gone and Steve would probably still go back to Peggy, and then Sam would be alone to carry the Cap mantle and that's sad.
But I strongly disagree with Bucky and the shield, maybe it would have been different if he hadn't been dusted, but I was and am SO on board with Sam being Cap. And I'm actually lowkey insulted that anyone thinks Bucky needs the shield to become his own hero? Even the broken one? Like no. He doesn't. And he is proving that now I think that TFATWS is over. He's becoming his own hero (though its not complete yet), and he's supporting Sam, while Sam is supporting him. They are two halves of a whole Cap legacy, while rising above it at the same time (literally in Sam's case, 'cause wings).

In the comics Bucky did get the shield before Sam Wilson. The Russo brothers though were right, they said Bucky would be too traumatised to be placed into that position and without yet having been pardoned for his actions as WS, the rest of the world would not have just accepted him.

The more I watch this video the better it gets, especially the part about him and Nebula. Bucky is one of my favorite characters, and it's always a little bit sad to be reminded of how little screen time he has. I agree. Bucky is a criminally under-rated and under-used character who doesn't get nearly enough of a role in the movies. I for one would have loved to have seen him interact and work more with the original Avengers Team as I think he would have had a great deal to contribute. He should have been a lot more than just a machine-gun wielding badass dude in IF and Endgame. He has abilities and qualities which lend themselves to a lot more.
Despite being damaged and broken by what HYDRA did to him, Bucky is also very smart and has a good head for strategy. You can see that to an extent in The First Avenger and a little bit in Ciivil War. He's also calmer and more level-headed that Steve and Tony. Tony tends to be ruled by emotions, whereas Bucky comes over as much more logical and stoic. Yes, he's wracked with guilt about his past, but I think he's able to put that aside when bigger things are at stake.
Again, if the movies allowed him to have more screentime you could see it more but you get the odd hint. Whereas Steve will go in guns blazing and rely on old-fashioned heroics, or waste time talking Bucky will just get down to business and get things done quickly and efficiently and what's more he tends to plan in advance. Remmeber he was in an elite commando unit in WW2, and a sniper no less. Dude knows his onions when it comes to warfare.
We should have got more sniper Bucky, taking out the bad guys with a single shot before they knew what hit them, instead of slow-mo explosions and devestation. The Avengers, for all I think they are cool aren't great when it comes to fighting. They cause a lot of uncesssary destruction and collateral damage... that's not Bucky's way at all. He's much more a "don't needlessly sacrifice anybody if you can do the job cleanly and efficiently by other means" guy.
What's more, Bucky *respects* his opponents even if he doesn't like them. Tony tends to just be arrogant and assume he's better but Bucky actually looks at the strengths in their planning or approach. That's actually a good quality in a leader, because it means you are less likely to underestimate enemies or be blindsided. In short, I think Bucky would have been very well placed to deal with someone like Thanos by doing more than just firing at some space dogs...
I think something that could happen when it comes to War Machine in this What If is this, he and Bucky are swapped. This would keep the whole thing people noticed that half the Avengers in Infinity War were snapped, and could even further fuel Tony’s anger towards Bucky at the beginning since he just lost to Thanos which he saw from his vision in Age of Ultron, and in the process he lost two people who were like a son and brother to him in Peter and Rhodey so he’s even more furious now. I do like how all four of the OG Iron Man trilogy characters survived but for this scenario, I can give or take that whole thing
I understand seeing it in terms of Tony, as Tony is like the leader, and tension makes for good storytelling, but I really think Bucky is under-used even in this scenario. Bucky actually has a lot of the qualities of a good leader, including a calm and generally level-headed nature, a good head for strategy, respect for his opponents, and understanding the consequences of his actions and descisions.
Not many of the characters in the MCU seem to have those qualities. I personally don't think he'd do something impulsive like saving someone unless it served the greater objective, because that's just how his mind works.
He actually deserves to have some leadership role because I think he'd do a good job.

I was given a list of the Marvel movies to watch and instantly fell in love with what/how Bucky was. I too, after seeing him die and the fact that he was the first to die, was upset because there could have been so many ways to use him. there could have been so many different things that could have happened...what if he hadn't lost his arm when fighting iron man--what if his arm got ripped off during another fight? what if he hadn't gone to Wakanda yet, never got his mind right? what if in the blip years, bucky lost control in front of Steve and then he leaves---going to Wakanda to then get treatment, not being fully successful but partly there---then when it was time to come together and fight, he got a new arm. then after steve comes back old, and then after that, he goes back and finishes his treatment. why didn't we get this??
