    Do you lose MDrive with this (M Button)? I see there's a unique number for the MDM SLZ's, but they don't list one that includes a heated steering wheel.

    • @funcarsgoodpeople
      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před rokem

      Hi Aaron you are right! The heated steering wheel is not available for E9x M3s. However, on the other E9xs, the heating circuit does not go via the SZL steering column switch cluster, instead it goes via the spiral clock spring (or coil spring cartridge per realoem.com) to the steering wheel. So the clock spring with the 4-pin extension harness is the key part for the retrofit. Swapping the clock spring allows additional wiring for the heater, and the M Button (actually the multifunction switch cluster) circuit is still there.
      For whom is curious about the SZL for MDM, please refer to my video about MDrive retrofit: czcams.com/video/hIKka5dYtp0/video.html

    Is there a relay that cuts off power to the radio ?

    • @funcarsgoodpeople
      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello the radio on E90s is named N38 or N38a. It is on terminal 30g_f and the relay is named I01139. This relay cannot be seen on my version of fuse box.
      Please search on Google Images "e90 fuse panel relay 30g_f" you will see another version of fuse box on E90s. I01139 is on the right middle on the fuse panel, the black rectangular one below the black square one.

      Hi Gatiyo yes the relay I01139 is responsible for the power supply of terminal 30g_f. Also note that the faults in electrical system can make 30g_f shut down. So please scan for the fault codes about electrical system. Perhaps after clearing other faults, terminal 30g_f can be recovered!

      Hi Gatiyo yes this is one possibility but before swapping the whole fusebox I would try to supply 12V power to those fuses to verify whether the downstream modules are still functional.
      Looking at the fuse slot F41 (if not i’ll update to you), you will see a colored (maybe blue or magenta) socket underneath. That is the pin to the radio. I would try to supply this pin to check the radio.

      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před rokem

      Hi Eric from the wiring diagram for my 2008 E90 (with new version of fusebox), there are only two fuses on 30g_f; F31 for radio or CCC, and F17 for the phones and navigation system. Please note that the fuse distribution may vary. You can send your VIN via e-mail to funcarsgoodpeople@gmail.com and I can send you the PDF of wiring diagram of your BMW.
      I had considered the parking surveillance and it's indeed a good idea to prevent the battery from draining out. I know Mio offer some kind of power cable to cut off power of the dashcam when voltage is too low. I also see some people use another battery for parking surveillance but this is not ideal for small cars (occupying more spaces.)

    Hi Carl, you seem very knowledgable on car electronics. I'm on youtube trying to find out why my 2013 mini r56's usb and aux port isnt getting any power. It used to work and one day it stopped working. The cigarette lighter works no problem and all other electrionics but the usb and aux port that are side by side don't work. Thinking it's a fuse or 30g_f turned off or not sure what issue but maybe you might have an idea? Appreciate this video and the new knowledge you provided me.

    • @funcarsgoodpeople
      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před 11 měsíci

      Hello Brendon thank you for the message. I am relying on ISTA for all of the problems I get. I refer to the wiring diagram of your R56 Mini. The USB and AUX ports are connected to the ULF (universal hand-free) module. Then the module sends sound signal to the audio unit via MOST circuit (optical signal, see my video: czcams.com/video/RhKOkYNZ65M/video.html)
      If your ULF is broken, the MOST circuit is open and the audio system is also down. No sound will come out (try turning on the radio!) You can check fuse F10 to see if the of ULF module is out. Since USB and AUX ports are out simultaneously, I am assuming it can be a bad ULF module.
      If the ULF is functional, maybe the USB and AUX harnesses are loose or broken. That's the idea I have right now.
      I recommend using a diagnostic tool to see the fault codes. That will lead us to the problem more precisely. Best luck!

      @@funcarsgoodpeople Thanks for the reponse! Radio works and no other electronics aren't working just the aux and usb port that are next to each other. I got under the usb and aux port and made sure it was plugged in properly and they were. Not sure if the other end got loose or not I didn't trace it back but they are connected at the ports. Another piece of information I can provide is that I got these two error codes when looking in the secret service menu on the dash.
      Error01 A559 h 200038357B01
      Error02 9314 h 2027582F8C00
      Not sure if this has any meaning at all. I wasn't able to find anything online that explains. Really strange. I just want to have my usb and aux to work lol

    • @funcarsgoodpeople
      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před 11 měsíci

      @@brendonguo2494 I see! I cannot find related info in ISTA about the codes mentioned above. We'll just leave it alone.
      So let's just check the other end of the AUX-IN harnesses. The ULF module is under the driver's seat. The connector of the USB harness is the black one X17182 with 4 pins.
      And for the AUX lines they are in the black connector X17397 with 54 pins. The pins are 4, 5, 22 and 23.
      Please check if these two connectors are firmly plugged and if their lines are intact. Let me know the result!

      The engine start is controlled by the CAS, car access system. The CAS will compare a code stored in the ECU (or DME) to allow engine start. I guess you also changed the ECU together with the new motor(engine)? In that case, some programming is required to pair the CAS and ECU.

      "Key identification and start procedure
      The following procedure takes place after inserting the vehicle key in the ignition lock:
      - The transponder in the key is powered via the loop aerial and sends the key data to the CAS control unit.
      - The CAS control unit checks the key data to ensure it is correct and only then sends an enable signal to the starter.
      - The CAS control unit sends the variable code to DME/DDE. There, the variable code is checked against the saved variable code; if they match, the fuel injection is released.
      - After the engine has started, the CAS control unit generates new key data (change code) and transfers them to the transponder in the key.
      - A new variable code is also created and stored in the DME/DDE control unit."

      A0B2 for 2008 BMW 328i LCI is the fault code regarding power supply of CAS. Terminal 30E means power supply from Terminal 30 to power electronics in CAS, where 30L is to power electric loads activated by CAS.
      The CAS has two power inputs from fuse 36 (40 Amp) and fuse 55 (5 Amp) coming from terminal 30, namely 30L and 30E. So please check if these two fuses on the fuse box are blown.

    • @funcarsgoodpeople
      @funcarsgoodpeople  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Hong, it appears that there is an electric power problem that makes these fault codes. To summarize the above codes, I'd say the ECM and DSC lost communication because they were not powered or the power was unstable.
      So the priority is to have a running engine with stable electric power (with a good alternator.) But as you mentioned the battery drains very fast, let's suspect some short circuit somewhere on the car. I suggest first remove the fuses for unnecessary/unrelated modules for engine start (e.g. radio, air conditioning) to isolate CAS, ECM(or DME) and DSC.
      And now the car cannot be jumpstarted, so I will first check the starter motor, fuel pump and ignition electronics(wiring). It sounds like the ECM(or DME) is not working properly. I'm glad you can still read the fault codes and we don't see something catastrophic at this moment.
      Could you please send me your VIN via email: funcarsgoodpeople@gmail.com so I can check corresponding documents and wiring diagrams on ISTA? I will also send them to you to bust the faults. Best wishes!

      Hi Ben, the source of terminal 15 is located in the fuse panel. An earlier version of fuse panel has a removable relay. But later versions only have built-in relay for terminal 15.
      The CAS module validates the car key and sends activation signal to the fuse panel to turn on terminal 15 when the ignition switch is pressed.
      And some of the fuses are on terminal 15. Please see my video about how to find them because the location may vary by car models.
