Katie...plllleeeaaase extend the "paying for college" segment into a whole video! I need this in my life as a nontrad future transfer trying to not have debt lol

Aaaah I'll do my best!! Most of my college expenses are paid through financial aid like I said in the video, so really everything else I do for money doesn't amount to as much as you would need to pay tuition, but I'll see if I can come up with something!

Great vid. I went the community college route, so I followed that tip. I got lazy about applying for scholarships, and regret that a bit. Overall, great info. =)

Can you also suggest or ask others how and what the process was like for housing? I know Martinez is a transfer hotspot, but I also know some places are cheaper than 1750. Not to mention the landlords and how they treat their tenants. Thanks again! Good video and Congratulations! It must be exciting

I'll look into that, thank you for the suggestion! Most of the people I'm friends with/know at Cal all live on their own in apartments, so I'll do my best to track some stuff down!

Hi, Katie! I’m so glad to find your channel! I follow Kaelyn’s channel and had to do a double take, like wait I have seen this person before. 😅 May I ask you a question? I am in a similar situation to what you’ve experienced from what I gather, and the info out there is hard to come by for nontrad paths as I’m sure you know. (I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to figure it out on your own too, it’s definitely a lot.) Basically, long story short I’m a 30 y/o non traditional, independent student coming back to community college after a while. Right now I’m restarting in the CCC system over in Cupertino (I went to school in Indiana previously). I moved here on my own and had made a lot of mistakes in school before since I also have ADHD and didn’t come from a family with experience or knowledge about the college system or job market, etc. Lots of learning by failing first! TLDR; I also live alone in the Bay Area $$$ and found out that, because I was formerly working 3 jobs to cover costs (before returning to school), that as an independent student I don’t qualify for any financial aid at all since I was making btw. 15-25k the last couple years, which we know is funny since it cost that much to pay rent here. Anyway, I’m wondering, do you have any advice how you were able to qualify for both Cal and Pell grants even after working several jobs? I know some schools offer petitions and try to have alternative resources, but it seems like at least where I am at FHDA CC there’s a lot of bureaucratic red tape and limited capacity for counseling assistance maybe due to the pandemic. I’m not sure if this is common though since I’m new to the CCC system this quarter. Sorry for the paragraph! If you happen to see this and have the spoons I’d love to chat with ya and pay you for your time! ✨

I'm sorry to hear the predicament you're in! My situation is relatively unique, being that I qualified for the Cal and Pell grant before I gained my new jobs and had to fill out the FAFSA - in addition, the three jobs I maintain are relatively low paying, leaving me in the low income bracket that qualifies me for both of those grants. Essentially, my financial aid is what pays for my housing, and my income from my jobs pays for my bills and other cost of living expenses. I would love to chat sometime about your journey though, why don't you find me at Accepted Consulting!
