Community college is honestly such a blessing. I was not the best student in high school either and I thought my life was over when I got rejected from every college I applied for. But now I realize that it was the best decision going to community college because it really defined my decision for what I wanted to do in my career when I transfer and it’s a lot cheaper!
I’m planning to apply to Cal soon so thank you for posting this! 🙏🏼😄

This is awesome and so relatable! Often, we see so many resources and videos about freshmen applicants (which I get and I think is good), but we rarely hear about the community college success students. Transferring to a competitive school like Berekely is a huge motivation for me and it's great knowing that there are people who have done it who can give guidance. Thank you so much.

This is really inspiring I was feeling really defeated earlier today. I felt like I failed myself and my parents because I know I could have done better in High School and to have such a mediocre gpa of 2.1 because I didn’t take my first two years of High School seriously really broke me down. After seeing this I felt a boost of confidence knowing it’s still possible go to your dream school, I just got to work hard for it. Thank you so much for this video ✨

Jenny has a grit mindset which is what I strive to do every time I step into class. I believe having grit works because the motivation to succeed, persevering through failure is how one grows in life. As cliche as it seems. This really worked for my first semester in college. I got a C- on my first test in stats, which was the first test too in my freshman year. I was panicking a lot, and eventually, I really persevered to get that sweet A through countess hours with the professor in his office hours 3 days a week including the other times when I was free during other classes. Grit makes a difference!!!! and keep onto your own journey people!!!! It's ok for not everyone to believe in you!!! My old friends and even my dad doesn't believe in me sometimes. I'm thankful for my mom and sisters for believing in my potential. I had a 3.4 in high school, and now in college, I really have the guts to strive for success!!!

I had a 3.5 gpa during high school and took 3 AP classes such as AP calculus, AP US History, and AP Computer Science. I also took chinese 3 honors and applied to only Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo since my SAT score was bad and my parents didn't want to waste their money on UC's. As a freshman at CCSF, I have two A's and 1B for a total of 3 classes so far, so hopefully, my 2nd chance at UC Berkley will increase. Wish me luck!

This is more than 2,000 individuals down from when the class entered UC Berkeley this fall. As of today, there are only about 4,345 freshmen still enrolled at UC Berkeley.

Depends on the college. This is true in Jenny's case from a CALIFORNIA community college to UC schools for a native English speaker. If you are an international student or coming from another school or going to another college the rules may be different and what is "suggested" may be different-- and the rules may change year to year. Some schools also accept retakes of the exam after high school. You have to check policies at the specific schools you apply to.

But they are more mature than you, university admissions officers trust them more. Many professors have said that they are stronger writers and more focused than their younger counterparts who enter directly from high school. Taking 20 courses a t community college is no different than ap courses which why the universities will allow them to transfer over. Community college grads are the same caliber and they have proven that they deserve to be in university.

the truth of the matter is that most people who got into top UCs from CC would not have done so from high school, even at a mature age. community college courses are not at the same level of difficulty as ap courses are unless you are taking engineering courses and more advanced math/physics courses (and even then, no guarantees as some professors just pass out A's since there need be no training for the SAT or AP exams. CC courses do not test with standardized tests like AP exams do (many people do indeed pass AP classes while failing AP exams, which doesn't look good on applications. CC courses have no such exams to verify proficiency) Also, no SATs to verify either. University admission officers do not "trust them more" (you don't admit people based on trust; this is not a crime or a courtroom). They admit them because the acceptance rate for CC is higher and they are given first priority above everyone else. Check the UCLA website for published stats on admissions. The acceptance rate for CC transfers is twice the amount from high school, which is compounded by the fact that most people at CC were mediocre students at best in high school since most who did well went away to university already, making CC transfer at least 4 times easier than from high school.

You can't say that CC is 4 times easier than high school, you can't measure that way and even admissions officers would disagree with you. The fact that CC students get admitted tells you that admissions will take 2 years of post secondary courses seriously, they would not admit them if they didn't. AP courses are overrated, many admissions officers will tell you that many high schools do not offer them so they can't give it a lot of weight especially at a highly selective school. You can find universities in America where profs pass out A's. There was a Ted talks about going to Community College and the life lessons it taught him. The guy who gave it went to community college, transferred to Cornell University and is now at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The reality is that people really care about what you do after hs which is the most important. I know many people who went to CC who are MD's, lawyers and software engineers working in silicon valley.

To say that AP courses are harder than CC classes is the best joke I've heard in a long time. If you think AP was harder than any college course then you really dont know what you're talking about and just goes to show you're bitter about something and trying to rationalize stupid ideas. Also, you present a lot blatant false information like "CC courses do not test with standardized tests like AP exams do" (and thus you deem to be subpar or irrelevant ). CC courses and all accredited college courses in California go through the asisst.org system where they are evaluated on whether not they meet transfer requirements for UC's. So they are directly compared with and evaluated by the UC system for transferability. So, you're wrong. These courses are harder than AP classes (which were meant to be college courses taken in high school, anyways). And admit rates for transfers at many UC's are only higher by about 5-7% each year because the amount of transfers admitted is less than a third the amount of freshman. So, no the acceptance rate is not "double", nor is it a lot of transfers at all when compared to the freshman admits. Its not many at all, really. So you've been wrong about pretty much all your talking points. I can only imagine you're spewing this misinformation out of the bitterness of your rejections from top schools like Berkeley? And I know what im talking about because of my source: I was admitted to UC Berkeley as an EECS transfer last year , which acceptance rate is less then 10%. So I myself can verify what you're saying as bullshit and you're nowhere near as smart as you think you are and thats why you were rejected from these programs. Your arrogance can be smelled a mile away.

@@justStardust940 you have such a closed mind to people with backgrounds you have no idea of. I wasn't perfect in HS but definitely not mediocre. I did AP classes and SAT, and the AP classes were in no way comparible to CC classes, AP classes were far easier. Went straight to Uni to study biology but left due to health and financial issues. Went to CC to take care of myself. I took honors classes and professors at CC that structured their classes like 4 year systems. Found myself pursuing a business related route. Now i'm at Berkeley working as hard as anyone else. You don't get to decide who stops being "good enough" at any point in their life. Some people actually grow to be better out of high school.
