    I'm not a fan of the Q7 but, I must admit, there is something about this car that represents Audi/VAG at it's peak. The OTT craziness of the engineering in their cars of the 2000s was just on another level. They had SO MANY fascinating engines during that period. Narrow angle V5s and V6s, inline 5s, supercharged V6s, turbo and NA V8s, W12s and of course turbo diesels in everything from 4cyl through to 12cyl via V8 and V10. We will never see that kind of diversity in ICE again!

    You don't buy a Diesel in SUV to "save money". You buy it for low end torque because it suits SUV driving style. With an engine like this Audi, you can haul whatever and you won't have any problems.
    It's the same philosophy as with Cummins and Duramax. They are not for saving money, they are for hauling stuff.
    If you want an economical Diesel, buy a Volkswagen Passat, or some Citroën...

    • @xdman20005
      @xdman20005 Před 4 lety +1

      Hahahahaha

    • @TheWiniarss
      @TheWiniarss Před 4 lety +7

      You are wrong, your hauling abilities are not constrained by engine torque, but by tyre type/size. If you want to haul stuff, buy a truck, because that audi is not gonna work on loose/muddy surface at all. If you want wheel torque, Soviet Uaз (80hp bus) with great reduction gearbox or Kamaз (60 hp truck used everywhere in postsoviet countries) truck have probably more than this useless Audi

    • @edim108
      @edim108 Před 4 lety +31

      Without Torque, you need very Low Gearing as to not destroy the engine. Low Torque engines can be used to haul stuff but it's not very practical because most of the time it's going to be significantly slower and they may even use more fuel than more torque engine. Right tires are also good but not essential because if it's a heavy load, it will press down on suspension and tires and create more grip that way. Tires are not essential, but it's a lot safer to use the right tyres.
      A truck is much more versatile than that Audi, that is for sure, but you don't need a truck to haul things for 100 km on a highway and a few dozen meters on gravel. For work, Truck is much better, but if you are on a family vacation and you want to take a boat with you, that Audi will be a better choice because it is more practical for that use. No one at a right mind would use this Audi as a replacement for F-250, but most people don't need a Truck that size- In Europe, roads are narrow and winding so that Audi is much more practical than a Pickup.
      Quattro AWD is not as good for heavy duty use as something with propper 4X4, but for things, it would be used for, that Quattro is just fine and 4X4 would be redundant, cause no one at a right mind would take that Audi somewhere where that makes a big difference.
      For its purpose that Audi is very well made.

      @spanishbballathlete3862 Před 3 lety +3

      Edim 108 true but nobody in europe (with our fuel prices ) will buy this car, most people here use the q7 3.0 v6 tdi with 200+ hp ( from 204 hp to 280) and in some cases you can see the 4.2 v8 tdi 340hp wich can tow an small boat without any problem, Audi made this car to flex a q7 with a v12 diesel I guess , it will be dope to see one tho
      I see lot of q7’s of that generation here in spain and the father of my friend has this car with the v6 engine, and it’s surprising how those 3 liters can pull
      Not just in this model , but in the a6, a7, a8 is the most common engine too, the 3000cc v6 tdi is prolly the best engine audi has made , no need for a big v8 or a fucking v12 hahaha

    Actually the whole point of buying a diesel is to tow things. The 6.7 liter Powerstroke V8 in an F-450 make 440hp and 925 lbs ft of torque. It was not designed to be economical. It was designed to tow over 30,000lbs.

    • @michaelking1869
      @michaelking1869 Před 5 lety +4

      That isn't true at all. The point of a diesel is one thing. Fuel mileage. You can easily build gas engines to pull just as well as any diesel, just not with decent mileage. People have this thought as well that diesels naturally make more torque and it just isn't true. This one at hand produces (yet limited to) 1000NM/738FT LBS of torque at 38psi. The current Power Stroke if I recall makes those numbers at 30psi. You could easily build a 6.7L gas engine that makes 925FT LBS of torque at around 20psi. Bentley has a 6.75L V8 that makes 811 Tq at 20psi with ancient technology and compression ratio that is from the 80's.

    • @derbyjr
      @derbyjr Před 5 lety +6

      Michael King um wrong, maybe in Europe a diesel is supposed to get better fuel mileage. In America, all Diesel engine are made to do is tow many tons. Fuel mileage is just a bi product because diesel takes longer to burn

    • @MSRooky350z
      @MSRooky350z Před 5 lety +6

      @@derbyjr actually, he is right, yoz can make it with a gas engine as well, physics do not change when you cross the ocean.. a diesel has a high comptession rate, thats were the low torque comes from and additionally, diesel has a higher density, so a gallon of diesel is more mass than a gallon of gas, just like different types of wood burn at different rates so( a pile of pine will not last as long as a pile of oak, if the same size).. if you try to build a low torque gas engine you get in the low 1 digit mpg.. so, it's just more economic

    • @michaelking1869
      @michaelking1869 Před 5 lety

      No, wrong on your part. If you think the manufactures can't build a gas engine to haul big loads you'd be out of your mind. They just can't do it with reasonable fuel mileage. Even the Ford V10 is rated for 30,000lb and it is very weak in power for it's size. To build a gas powered engine to haul 80,000 lbs like a big rig wouldn't be that hard with today's technology. To build one that does it with decent fuel economy however just isn't going to happen. The 8.1L was poorly built and had no problem towing as well as the Duramax at that time. The Duramax just did it with roughly double the fuel economy.
