  • Online Artist Residency to sell your art online: www.driesketel...
In this video, I take you through a personal journey that began with my very first exhibition in Milan 10 years ago. It was a group show organized by an Italian curator, and I was driven by the desire to impress my mom, promising her that I'd make her proud one day. However, I quickly realized I was in over my head-I had no experience in selling art, pricing my work, or even the basics of setting up an exhibition. This inexperience left me feeling overwhelmed and amateurish, especially in front of gallery owners and a curator I had never met in person. My initial excitement turned to disappointment when, after the exhibition, I learned that none of my art had sold. But the situation took a darker turn when I discovered my returned art was damaged, leading to the revelation that the curator was actually orchestrating insurance fraud.
But why share this story? It's because hidden within this challenging experience is a powerful strategy that can help beginner artists not only host successful exhibitions but also sell art and make significant earnings right from the start. This strategy doesn't require a budget, followers, or prior experience. Instead, it leverages the combined social media reach of local artists, offering a gallery owner free marketing, and ensuring sales without them lifting a finger. I outline how to offer an irresistible proposal to gallery owners by organizing the exhibition, doing all the marketing, and ensuring all logistics are covered, guaranteeing them a portion of the sales without any upfront cost.
This approach is a game-changer for beginner artists. It provides a platform for exposure, sales, and networking opportunities with other artists and galleries, potentially leading to permanent representation. I've personally utilized this strategy, leading to exhibitions across Berlin, Milan, Buenos Aires, London, and Brussels, among other cities, and have seen firsthand the benefits it brings.
To help you implement this strategy, I've created a cheat sheet outlining the approach and including additional tips to maximize your success. This guide is available for free and can be downloaded using the link in the video description. This isn't just about making sales; it's about leveraging the collective power of the art community to create opportunities for all involved, proving that even without followers or experience, you can achieve incredible success and, indeed, impress those who matter most.

I'm doing art until I die for the sake of art. Forget selling it. No one deserves it.

My first gallery was out of state and I had to ship it too. They tried to steal my work and wouldn't return it or pay for it. I had to threaten to sue and call in a favor from a friend to get it back. Nice people and really encouraging. 😔

When my marine buddy chews me out holding up 3 squares on a canvas that sold for 3 million somewhere, this video is what I needed. Well done.

Hi Dries, Awesome idea! I don't understand the part about the 100000 followers doing the advertising though, since I thought we were saying we didn't have any followers yet. Also, I was wondering, did you ship all your work on your own costs to Buenos Aires and all these places? I'm creating watercolors all framed behind glass. Very cool to have shown in all these places. I would like to guide but I don't see the link. Thanks! 😊

What happened to selling on Social Media and Instagram ? Now you are back to recommending galleries 😂 The best way is respected art auction houses . Once you have sold at auction your name and price is classified and becomes more acclaimed and respected.

This is a video about galleries, the other video is a video about social media. In a gallery video I talk about galleries and in a social media video I talk about social media? Do you expect me to talk about social media in a video titled "how I started selling art in galleries"?

That's such a rude thing to say. You seem like you lack class.

And you lack a simple understanding of syntax. Dries is an acquaintance. I'm concerned about his wellbeing. Learn to read between the lines.

@@NnaemekaAmamasi telling your friends/family that they look tired is bad etiquette, bad manners, a display of lack of class. I don’t make the rules here 🤷🏽‍♀️ “syntax” or not lmaooo

"I've been checking out your channel, and I gotta say, I think you're kinda off track with the content you're making right now,
and your first exhibit were definitely a good start."
