50 years ago... Can you believe it? I was 8 and watched it on the old Philco set.

when they faked the moon landings,
it really helped that they faked them on the actual moon,
the excitement from the guys, so heartfelt and relatable.

Boy what a day it has been 12/11/2022 the 1st splashdown of Orion 1 !!! Now, 50 years ago at this moment. Apollo 17 landing on the Moon !!!!! I miss the whole thing as a 6 year old kid at that time!!!! THANK YOU CZcams for bringing back this one!!!!
Orion returns home on the 50th anniversary of the last landing. Seems fitting.

50 years tonight the BBC devoted 30 minutes prime time television to cover this landing (followed by a Panorama discussion for an hour) ITV started Coronation Street early and gave it 8 minutes! Its a pleasure to watch these videos, the work you do is wonderful sir, thank you

Just brilliant. I count myself as so lucky that day that I found these vids a couple years back. And now this one too! Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, would find something useful to learn and / or feel from these. They should play these in schools and old folks’ homes alike.

@@lunarmodule5 was “night” launch 🚀 dangerous?? This was the only one correct?… bc in theory if there is an “abort” at certain stages however unlikely, it could be difficult and/or dangerous correct?

50 years later and we had smiles glore at Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island when Orion came home.
Good all around day for NASA. Artemis 1 landed, and so did Apollo 17. WELL DONE.

Well, hmm... I have two major nits. First, the only Apollo landing in which the LM spent any time with the windows pointed down towards the lunar surface during PDI was Apollo 11. Most of the farther-out shots you show of the LM during the earlier parts of the descent show it with the windows pointing down and the aft equipment bay pointing away from the surface, and again, Apollo 11 was the *only* flight that used that PDI attitude. Second major nit is that the craters on your simulated lunar surface are all lit from the west, and in the early lunar morning, the sun would be in the eastern sky. You have your LM flying into the sunset terminator, and that's 180 degrees off. The LMs flew out of darkness and into the sunrise terminator. But look at your craters, dude -- the edges nearest to the LM's POV (the near rims) are lit, while the edges away from the POV (the far rims) are in shadow. With the sun behind you, as it actually was, the shadows would be inside the near rims, becoming less visible as the angle to the surface got more oblique, while the far rims would be lit.
Other than that, it was great! Been wanting to see this type of animation for Taurus-Littrow for a while. Thanks!
Oh, sorry -- one last, *extremely* minor nit, has to do with the configuration of the LM model you used. It's well done in that it shows an LRV on the LM descent stage quad on the other side from the MESA (though it sort of looks like the MESA quad is shown with one of the smaller G- and H-mission style tip-out MESAs in it, rather than one of the J-mission MESAs which were as wide and tall as the entire outside of that descent stage quadrant). But on the quad opposite the LRV quad (the other side of the back of the descent stage from the SEQ bay, where the ALSEP was stored), you show the flat panel with the small bulge that made room for the propellant tank underneath. But on all of the J-series LMs, that quad had a big external stowage rack on it that totally covered that flat panel and its tank bulge. That stowage rack carried things like the Rover's geology pallet (basically the stuff the crews attached to the back end of the Rover), plus the GTCA/LCRU pallet and, on Apollo 17, the pallet that contained the explosive charges that the crew emplaced around the landing site, to be used after they left for seismic profiling of the site. No J-mission LM showed that back quad panel as flat with the tank bulge, they all had that big stowage rack covering it. Just FYI. 🙂
Not trying to throw shade at your work, it's overall *excellent* and I spend many enjoyable hours watching and listening to it. But I figured that you, like me, are a stickler for authenticity, so I figured I'd let you know about the little nits I found. @@DougVanDorn Orbiter 2016 is used for the animation which also means limited ways to modify the scenarios. The lighting is an Orbiter limitation. The LM Model doesn't really change too much between H or J.
Some of the lunar orbital footage is illuminated only by Earthlight. There is no true night on the Moon where Earth is in its sky! Imagine the lunar landscape illuminated by the brilliant 'full Earth' shining at dazzling magnitude -18.
