@@robynsegg Disney owns about 30,000 acres. Which is about 47 square miles. The graphic makes it look like they own all of Central Florida which is not the case. About half of their land is undeveloped. They’re only allowed to develop a fraction of what they own to preserve the local wetlands, so whenever they expand they need to buy up more land to offset what they develop.

You didn't even mention the best part: that Walt's actual plan was to build a CITY on that site, a futuristic city which he would control like some kind of sci-fi company town. Everyone in the city would work for Disney or its partner companies and Disney would also own all the homes and public services.
The theme park aspect was added only to appease investors. When Walt died, the company immediately tossed the city idea and built a resort instead. The theme park EPCOT (Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow) carries the city's intended name.

But investors were weary about the idea of having an experimental City and didn't think that it would make enough money to support what it wanted to do so they made a deal with Disney to build a second Disneyland to attract tourism and Disney decided to agree to this but place the park at the very top of the resort so that guests would have to fly into the airport at the bottom of the resort and go through Epcot to get to the Magic Kingdom.

Slightly off-topic, but I’ve always wondered if Walt himself would’ve enjoyed Kingdom Hearts. Seeing all of these characters in a whole new light, alongside new characters and characters from other places, with this whole crazy storyline. I feel like he would’ve been really proud of the video game series. I also feel like he would’ve let Square Enix be more free with their ideas within the series, because he loved being creative with his writing more than being as worried with the “innocent reputation” of his characters. (Walt is the same guy who wrote comics with Mickey and Donald being in the World Wars, I think he would’ve been okay with an evil Elsa in KHIII or Donald sucker-punching a Han in the face).
