If copy is so easy, why others would rather pay more to buy instead of copy themself. After all to a country, what really matters is to have the weapon that can defend herself.

    • @wadopotato33

Copying isn't easy, but it does saves years in Research and Development. The Chinese are very willing to steal designs in order to catch up. They stole the F-35 design and made a copy. They bought the LAVI design from Israel who promised not to sell that tech because the US helped Israel with that design. Chinese jets have a lot of US DNA and a lot of Russian DNA.

@@oansiddiqui175 Cool, but stealth tech takes decades to develop and China stole decades worth of American R&D when they got terabytes of American data. The idea that the J20 isn't using American tech is just silly. And they also use Russian tech. China will catch up by hook or by crook. Thus far it has been mostly by crook. They stole designs through espionage because they were behind. Kind of the end of the story, really. No other way to look at it.

J-10 used software from Israel and France, but the airframe is different from Lavi. The canard works differently with the main wing. Lavi's canard is close to the main wing, does not provide much control authority, but contribute greatly to lift. J-10's canard is far from the main wing, provides less extra lift benefit but more control authority.

The arrogance of the west is unrepresented. the J10 has nothing to do with Israel. its all Chinese tech. In fact the Levi was just based on stolen/provided techs of the F16 but the Israelis thought why build your own planes if you get them for free from the U.S

    • @AnzaChannel123

Lavi's was 1980s project and not 1970s as some one has pointed out. It was not stealing but official tech transfer from USA to Israel.
The transfer to China was however, totally Clandestine .... hurting even USA's global interests!
Israel also sold kamkazi drones (Harpy and Harop) to China in 1990s ... USA sanctioned Israel for only few months !

It will be quite worrisome when China finally starts making things like this based on their own ideas and designs.
The situation reminds me of the way things were in the 1960s with Japan. Everybody said that the Japanese were decent copiers but didn't have any original designs of their own.
How wrong they were. By the end of the 1970s it was clear that the Japanese built great cars and did so using their own ideas.

We are all guessing here, none knows for sure. If it is indeed derived from Lavi then China denied it most likely to protect Israel as part of no disclosure agreement. After all US would not have allowed this tech transfer.
