- Still allows you to shoot the orbital laser and summon Majima
Majima running down a skyscraper and throwing 1000 knives is canon
What I like about the final fight with Ryo/Masato is that beforehand, Ichiban's viewed nearly the entire game through the lens of his fantasy world, where he's the big hero in his own Dragon Quest game and it informs this world of aggressive Yakuza and very real consequences for those around him, especially the people he cares for and respects.
But for the final fight, he's discarded all that and he's fighting with his bare hands as any good Yakuza protaganist would, and there's even some QTE's in there for good measure, as if the reality of the Yakuza series is bleeding back into Ichiban's world as he finally abandons the fantasy one he built up in the hours beforehand and accepts the world around him.
He also snaps back to reality after beating a man with a blue dragon tattoo. He's slain the dragon, so in he's beaten the final boss. The game is over.
this is after he beat Tendo, who had a dragon tattoo. Ichiban (the hero) killed the dragon, his game ended there. This fight was where the real shit began

It's like they took the concept fighting someone weak like Jingu and Munakata, but actually made it work because the fight isn't annoying. The context is really strong and the QTEs made it satisfying

It turns out that not having the boss just run around taking potshots while hiding behind goons works miracles in making bosses not annoying.
It's why Ibuchi in Kiwami 2, despite using a gun, was less frustrating to fight.
@@Veqtronic Ibuchi's moveset was reused from the assassin that were trying to take Makoto away and guns don't do too much shit in the dragon engine anyways (except that one Amon)
a lot of people just don't understand the fight with Ryo/Masato. like yes he's easy but that's the point. he's not some beefed up Yakuza, he's a politician who was also wheelchair bound for the first 20 some odd years of his life. and to Ichiban he's his brother, he doesn't want Ryo to die he just wants to stop him.
No epic opening, no clan badges, only his real name. Also you are forced back to freelancer, clearly Ichiban doesn’t want this fight at all. You can see so many details in this single fight.

it’s hard to relate to Kiryu, when he’s the closest thing to human perfection.
and I feel like that was the intention, going forward with Ichiban’s entire design.
14:54 I love the idea that, since this is the only QTE in the game, Ichiban is finally starting to look past his delusions & is becoming a real fighter. No more over-the-top attacks like orbital lasers or summons, but just full-on fist fight.
The fact they force you into the Free Lancer class with all its skills really reinforce that shit is serious now and Ichiban isn’t playing hero at this point. He’s just Ichiban and trying to beat some sense into his brother.

From a game standpoint, Yosuke Tendo is the final boss.
From a story standpoint, Masato Arakawa is the final boss.

I've seen plenty of people complain how this fight is too easy and unclimaxtic. They kinda miss the point that this is not a proper fight, this is two brother release their frustration at life through the use of their fist.
Masato know for damn sure he ain't beating a hardened Yakuza, but what he gonna do? surrender while still angry about his life?
Besides, we had Tendo before and is the person who was being built up as strong as hell

I think Masato as a villain is a more well rounded and effective Nishiki. I love how we the player and the cast as a whole only ever see him as this pure evil monster leaving Ichiban as the only one that has ever seen his human side Masato is so desperate to validate. It really makes that final section so heartbreaking with how Ichi is pleading about how their family bond doesnt need to make sense.

If you dont take into account 0, I agree. But with 0 it rounds nishiki as a man struggling to earn anyone's respect. He just wants someone to say "thank you nishiki, I appreciate you"

@@miguelsuaza4413 RGG Studio definitely took advantage of an opportunity and used Y0 and Kiwami to 'patch' a lot of little issues that made the original Y1 hold up badly when compared to the rest of the franchise.
For an added layer of irony, Ichiban is technically both Ichiban and Kiryu in certain respects.
It's hard to play the game when everything is so blurry in the end... Oh wait.

I feel like Masato's boss fight is more just an interactive cutscene or epilogue, it's really easy but it makes sense for it to be. Masato and Ichiban's VAs did an incredible job here and the ending though, some of the best performances in the series
Masato's va is one of those really popular senyu in Japan, he also voice for Guido Mista from GW and Junpei from Persona 3
@@JohnYakooza That's interesting, somehow I didn't notice even though I played through Persona 3 with a JP voice mod. Haven't watched Jojo since golden wind finished airing though, I should rewatch it before the stone ocean anime comes out

It just shows how that depsite how much other characters mock and put down Ichiban for where he's come from, he ultimately proved that he's more than capable of forging his own legend.
Something I like about this fight is that kasuga is limited to freelancer, it means he isn't taking shit and isn't gonna act like a little kid and is becoming a non delusional fighter.

I like it how Masato doesn't have a heat aura cause the game tells us that heat auras can only be seen by Ichiban and that's cause of his gamer brain and the way he views everything but for this fight he views the world normally and cause of that there is no heat aura for Masato just a man
God this game has brilliant writing
I mean, a Sidestory in one of the games had someone telling Kiryu to not use those blue flame moves, I just don't think Masato has a heat aura at all
I did this fight on hard and spammed the hyper swagger ability and he couldn’t hit me once. The only time he ever did is when ever he counter attacked. Whenever you dodged his attacks, he stomped his foot in frustration it was hilarious. Imagine it happening multiple times in a row. I absolutely embarrassed him.

It's amazing and tragic on how good Masato Arakawa is as a villain. He's what happens if Ichiban disregards family, friendship, compassion, and love, and instead treats everyone as disposable pawns to rise at the top. His theme also captures how Masato is lost, and now it's up to Ichiban to save him and show him the light.

i mean, as an antagonist, yes. but as an actual boss, not really, his boss fight wasn't even intended to be difficult. Tendo was the real final boss.
I get that this game had you do turn base the entire time and what I am suggesting would be far out of left field, but if, or the very final battle, they reverted it back into classic Yakuza combat, it would have been cool
The turn base is very well done. I hated on it at first, but I honestly can’t imagine going back.
IMO the turn based combat is needed to show the bond between Ichiban and the rest of the party properly. Kiryu had friends ofc, but because when you're playing Kiryu you're doing the majority of the heavy lifting yourself, his allies feel like helpless spectators at times.
Ichiban is a character that draws people to him, and that ability to get everyone to join him and believe in each other and themselves to achieve more than they could ever imagine is his real strength. Not his ability to win fist fights on the millennium tower shirtless in the rain like Kiryu, or the combination of a razor sharp mind with equally sharp Kung Fu like Yagami, but the ability to get people to work with him for a common goal simply by showing them genuine compassion, and they give him 100% in return.
Now imagine that when it comes to fights Ichiban drops five people with three punches, and the others all have to gang up on the remaining guy to do 30% of his life bar for Ichi to finish them. Does that sound like a team, or a bunch of groupies and gophers following their hero around.

I'm sure 1,000 people before me mentioned this detail, but I love how everyone fights Ryo Aoki, but in his final fight, he turns back to Masato Arakawa. All pretenses, all facades, all images down. For once in his life, he can let everything fall off and be Masato Awakawa again. Fucking love it, thank you Ichiban

Shit this fight hurts so fucking much, I've never been this sad since the Nishiki fight in Kiwami
I noticed that, not only your class changes to Freelancer for this fight, the game also gives you Essence of Roadside Weapon in case you don't have it.
Its not just roadside weapon its all the skills of the job basically if you didn't do jackshit to level up freelancer in the final fight the game will make the job set lvl 28 only for that time.

Despite being possibly the worst boss battle in the game, I really love Ryo Aoki/Masato Arakawa as the final fight before the game is over. It's so emotional, man. Ichiban's one true friend, who he was always caring about and just looking out after, backstabs the Hell out of him throughout the entire game and it just hurts so much. The way the game abandons whatever class you've chosen, forcing you to go hand to hand/Freelancer and slug it out with him like a real Yakuza as the reality of the way the world works sets in for Ichiban, it hits so hard. The ONLY THING this boss is missing is a Dynamic Intro.
This boss may be weak and shit BUT MAN, the writing, the music, and the feelings behind it make up for it to me.
Ichi's seiyuu is just amazing, no words to describe how much this made me cry.
I like how uncertain Aoki looks upon seeing the aftermath of Ichiban and co fighting through the tower. He can't believe that the loud, game playing goofball he used to know actually did any of this lol

Are you going to give your updated thoughts/review on the game since it has now been localized? I literally just finished the game about an hour ago and this game and the story in particular is honestly up there as one of my favourites in the whole Yakuza series.
I know Masato's supposed to be weak, but i'd just wish they'd give him just a little more health.
i still kinda wish it were the actual tendo turning on aoki, esp since everything mirror face said about feeling disposable is smth tendo could say (especially given there was an entire scene about aoki telling tendo to his face he was disposable), not to mention tendo being on ichiban's side in sotenbori shows he's capricious as hell anyway

@@stevenliang3213 Yeah I realised one hit kill move is very important for a JRPG final boss to have since it’s a 4v1 with the ability to revive themselves. It brings the fight more challenging. That’s why I found IW final bosses a bit underwhelming than Tendo.
I love how they punch each other in the quick time event. Even the quick time event is turn-based.
I feels like yakuza 7 story is the refined version of yakuza 1/kiwami. I mean man, look at the similarity this game provided.

To get another character to fill in the other guys spot is to get Eri. To get Eri you meed to reach rank 100 in the real estate minigame, which is only like 30 minutes to an hour of grinding.

I like the detail of switching you to the freelancer/homeless/yakuza job for this fight, it’s piss easy but I don’t think the point was difficulty
Even during his aoki phase he didn’t put up that much of a fight aside from his guards
In the end, ichiban got all he got from sheer determination all from a soap house and yet for all the benefits that masato arakawa got, he simply lacked the strength ichiban had, a failure who rose up to be the dragon that would end this war once and for all

Can anyone tell me how.to level up quickly? I've been doing the invested vagabond farm in kamurocho sewers and got everyone's character level to 99 but there's so many jobs to level up and all the dude characters have I think 8 jobs to level up. Its still super slow even with so items and I heard you need most if not all at lvl 99 to do the final Millennium tower dungeon.
That's the method i know but try looking up some video guide.
I did lol everyone says the same thing. I was just hoping there was a better way but guess not. Its still unbelievable slow. It takes like 3 or 4 hours with 2 class exp items on to get to 99 and that's just one class. The male character get like 8 or 9 jobs a piece so its gonna take forever.

You don't really need to have all the jobs at the highest. I'd say just have it at the very least rank 30. And if you're tired of grinding, there's a mod to get kiryu and majima in your party. With their skills (and equipping the weapons that the mod recommends) the millennium tower can easily be beat at level 70 rank 27-30 jobs

Yes
i think there is a little bit of playtime between when Ichiban unlocks the hero style and when you can switch classes, but other than that yes you can have ichiban use the freelancer style throughout the whole game
It can't use weapons but makes up for it by getting big attack boosts but that at later levels. Most people.will.tell you not to use it because other jobs are better but imo its perfectly viable throughout the whole game.

Yes. You can choose dubbing or the original Japanese at the beginning of the game like you could in judgement.

Before I played like a dragon I absolutely detested rpg games. They were a slog, boring, and just unenjoyable. Like a dragon completely changed my mind about them though

As a villain I like him because he’s supposed to represent everything Ichiban isn’t. But idk I didn’t dislike him nearly as much as I disliked Kume.

Because Kiryu doesn’t have any emotional final boss anymore after Nishiki and maybe Ryuji. Others are either being an asshole in the plot or just Aizawa. They are only strong to withstand the plot. Emotional final boss doesn’t need it.
