- $100,000 Name That Tune with Jim Lange - Shelly Funes vs Richard Devicariis. Shelly Funes fails on the first answer of the Golden Medley resulting in some extremely uncomfortable ad-libbing by Jim Lange to fill time. Found this on the VHS in the attic.

I was fortunate to listen to Jim Lange as a D.J in Southern California!
Way better than Krakowski’s version. Too bad the Lange version only had a short 1 season run
I can't believe Shelly Funes blew it on the very first tune in the Golden Medley in which it ended very quickly.
My dad knew Jim from his KSFO radio days. Super nice guy.
NTT '84 was the first game show to give away the same prize every single episode.
3:14 - 3:31 - I thought for show that they were gonna get that tune
and speaking of which, William Shatner has outlived Jim Lange and Tommy Oliver
I love love this game show
Can't believe they didn't get the Star Trek theme!
Not everyone is a Star Trek nerd that is a virgin and still lives with their parents.
it was easy
That's what I said
also, William Shatner who played Captain Kirk on the show has outlived Jim Lange and Tommy Oliver
Shatner was born in 1931, Tommy Oliver was born in 1932 and died in 2006 and Jim Lange was born in 1933 and died in 2015
I loved melody roulette before the 1 spin. At minimum, you'd win $300 with 3 $100 spins. With 1 spin, the minimum you can win was $250.
Tommy’s a good singer, too.
Yep 👍🏻, he sure is.
I love the magical sound of the wheel
This and Don't Forget the Lyrics would go well together in a one hour block.
Love those 80's "shag" hairdos that shortly after morphed into the "mullet"
In Melody Roulette, did they start using the chroma-key shot before or after the switch to 1 spin/7 tunes?
Well, I think it was DVE (digital video effects) that was used, since the center of that wheel was gold, instead of green (like wheel of fortune's).
Wow... talk about filling time.
Melody Roulette's sound when it spins = one of my favorite.
Yeah me too
Me too but didn’t really enjoy the one spin format though
Out of all of the Game Shows that weer hosted by Jim Lange, he was good on Name That Tune and The Dating Game will forever be his signature show, but my favorite will always be BULLSEYE b/c it had an AWESOME Set that Johnny Carson even loved himself
God Bless You Mr. Lange, May You R.I.P. and don't forget to hit the BULLSEYE and watch out for the lightning
"Dating Game" was Jim Lange's breakout show. However, "Name That Tune" was in his comfort zone: he was a radio DJ before (and after) switching to TV.
Yup, Bullseye did have a wonderful set when they taped at NBC, however...Richard Klein got into an argument withthe suits and they had to move to Television City Studios in Hollywood.
@@rwboa22 I remember watching both Name That Tune and BULLSEYE in reruns on Pat Robertson's CBN back in the 80's and later on USA Network, however, NTT returned to CBN back in the 90's when it became known as The Family Channel and BULLSEYE was shown occasionally in reruns on GSN
love this show
one of my favorite game, they should do a remake of this game today
I agree. with modern day stuff. I would prefer this over stuff like The Voice
Well...VH1, back around 2001 or 2002 brought this back as name that video. However that didn't last too long. As for a proper remake...well...it would take an Act of God since the RIAA would put in so many restrictions it would be impossible to put to air.
David Brunson I agree and don't forget American Idol, it, too was overrated and I can't stand Ryan Seacrest
Actually, Name That Tune _is_ back...as "Beat Shazam" (hey, this is 2017)!
New Name That Tune premiers on January 6, 2021 on FOX. Jane Krakowski is hosting and Randy Jackson is the band leader.

just noticed the guy wasn't looking at the wheel while he was screaming...i guess he was told to face the camera...that's weird....unless he was looking a monitor (A VERY SMALL TV I BET)
You know something? If it was Ron Ely, Bob Eubanks, Jim Perry, Tom Kennedy, Bert Convy, Wink Martindale, Chuck Woolery, Peter Marshall or Dick Clark hosting this show, I wonder how they would've reacted to her not passing on the 1st Tune?
I picked those guys mainly b/c for one, they're Good Friends of Mr. Lange and also because of the following:
Ron Ely (Face the Music), Bob Eubanks (Being a DJ), Jim Perry (being a singer), Tom Kennedy (Host of the 70's Version), Bert Convy (another singer), Wink Martindale (Host of Deck of Cards), Chuck Woolery (another singer with Avant Garde), Peter Marshall (another singer) and of course, Dick Clark (Famous DJ and Host of American Bandstand and Creator of the American Music Awards in which I call the Grammy Version of American Bandstand)
also, during the 84/85 Season Bob Eubanks was hosting Trivia Trap on abc Daytime, Jim Perry was still hosting $ale of the Century on NBC Daytime, Tom Kennedy was hosting Body Language on CBS Daytime, Bert Convy was hosting Super Password, Wink Martindale was in his Final Season as host of Tic Tac Dough, Chuck Woolery was pulling Double Duties hosting Love Connection for syndication and SCRABBLE for NBC Daytime and Dick Clark was hosting 3 shows on 3 different networks The NEW $25,000 Pyramid for CBS Daytime, TV's Bloopers & Practical Jokes for NBC Prime Time and of course, American Bandstand for abc Saturday Mornings
That was nice of Tommy Oliver to come out and sing to fill in the rest of the time.
That was a rare treat!
rodney1279 Tommy Oliver was a bandleader on "Face the Music" back in 1980, which was four years before he joined "Name That Tune". Both shows are from Sandy Frank, best known for the Japanese films with English dub such as the "Gamera" series, and a few other films from Japan as well as the anime series "Battle of the Planets", and best known for the "Sandy Frank Song" from MST3K.
@@Musicradio77Network Face the Music and Name That Tune had the same buzzer sound
Wonderful moment Rodney
Besides the ones played.... How many "foreign affairs" songs can you think of....... Here are my mine.....

This is the 1st episode in which a contestant came up with a wrong answer, after refusing to listening to the rules of what Jim Lange explained to her. It also happened 3 more times, after this, esp. Dave, who said "Spring Is Busting Out All Over!" --- that made Jim Lange laughed.
Toward the end of the March 1, 1985, episode of _The New $100,000 Name That Tune 🎵,_ of course, Gary Richard.
Big Bucks, no Whammies!!
DVDave That was "Press Your Luck". Excellent show.

Have you noticed that only the outer wheel spun during the closing of the during this particular season. In the other season during the closing both the outer and inner wheels spun during the closing. Someone please tell me during the Bid-a-Note segment why were those walls put in front of the Melody Roulette Wheel and the Tune Topics board?
They weren't being used and didn't want a distraction

Was that Tommy Oliver at the end singing to the contestant?
Yep 👍🏻, at the end of the December 🎄 7, 1984, episode of _The New $100,000 Name That Tune 🎵,_ of course.
the band made it difficult sometimes
17:39 - the $6,408 Schafer & Sons Grand Piano and 18:13 the $10,105 1985 Pontiac Fiero!!!!!
millenniumman75 I remember that one. Sadly, the Family Channel (now Freeform) showing was edited out for time to make way for the "Trivial Pursuit's Play Break" segments with Wink Martindale.
The had the same prizes on Let's Make a Deal and Wheel of Fortune at the time. I liked that song playing in the background - it's a shame no one can find a recording; it was probably done live. The Family Channel had a better selection of game shows than the networks of today!
how much was the time share?

ready name that tune
good show
I think 🤔 this December 🎄 7, 1984, episode of _The New $100,000 Name That Tune 🎵_ was rerun almost five years later on USA 🇺🇸 Network October 25, 1989, at 1 pm Eastern.
"Star Trek Theme" was from that Science Fiction show, which has William Shatner.
i love the $100.000 name that tune.

originally the wheel was spun a maximum of five to seven times but now it.s spun just one time.
I was the music master on this show.

i like the melody roulette.
This is from between 9/11/89-9/13/91, as Peter Tomarken's WIpeout bowed on USA on 9/11/89
Zach Horan "Wipeout" was originally shown on WCBS-TV (channel 2) back in 1988 and 1989. It was at a dreadful time slot at 2 AM, not a good fit for an overnight block of game shows while people are still sleeping and no one watches "Wipeout" at that time. USA picked it up, and it was in the afternoon block of game shows, but I remember seeing "Wipeout" on USA back around 1989 and 1990 to be exact.
most of the tunes are popular tunes and well known tunes.
I was against Richard when he couldn’t up up with “Crazy.” I sat here thinking, “Geez, how stupid can you be?” And then I watched his opponent play the Golden Medley… sort of. Awful episode.
the tunes that are played on this show are familiar tunes.

It's too bad they didn't play the other tunes and give various audience members a chance to win like $50 or something. Poor production planning here.
the pandemic started on march 11th in 2020.
7:39 where the hell is Glocca Morra never heard of such place??
no idea when the pandemic will end.
@3:07, I cain't say no?
I hated this rouletee wheel, only spun once for the round instead of spun for every tune.
Likely a time issue.
Kevin Swales I remember since I was a kid, the rules for "Melody Roulette" has changed overtime since it was reduced to one spin instead of five, and a total of 7 tunes instead of spinning it again. How frustrating was that back then. I love the classic five spins of "Melody Roulette" instead of this one with a dreadful one spin, and the money space on the wheel was increased to a thousand and the "Double" space remains the same. This was what they did with the "Star Wheel" on "Match Game" where they spin once to pick a celebrity to play for.
That's actually the roulette round I remember the best. For the record, I always liked the sound of the wheel.
Announcer John Harlan was a contestant on the February 27, 2017 episode of Celebrity Bucket Kickers.
This is the only episode in which a winning contestant has lost on a wrong answer, after refusing to listen to the rules of "Golden Medley."
their were two other people who did that also
+Gary Richard Collins II I think I remember seeing this in early 1986 from a CBN rerun.

@The Dead CZcams Employees Yeah, that show was rough. The first round was OK, but then the second round (Loot/Warrant/Crook) was dumb luck, and then the final was just insane. But I don’t think NTT set people up to fail, at least not to that degree.
@The Dead CZcams Employees - Yeah, I can see it now:
1. Patty Larceny (Alphonse the Gangster)
2. Top Grunge (Bruno the Headsman)
3. Sarah Nade (Mr. Van Louse the Landlord)
4. Wonder Rat (Nero the Fiddler)
5. Double Trouble (Count Nibbleneck the Vampire)
6. Robocrook (Frank and his little friend Stein)
7. Kneemoi (Kid Rotten the Gunslinger)
8. Eartha Brute (Jeremy Swash the Pirate)
9. Vic the Slick (Dr. Deranged the Mad Scientist)
10. The Contessa (Lucretia the Witch)
And after defeating Carmen's "gauntlet", Carmen would be trapped in the corner (like the rat she is), let alone captured.
