Great to see you here! You can save alot if you go to Makro Market and buy some local fruits &vegetables at Natural Garden shop and cook yourself at home...

I live in Thailand on the coast, don’t think I could live anywhere inland in SE Asia except by the sea, especially if this hot season is going to get worse year on year. I still don’t need to use my Aircon, so my electric bill is usually around $12 a month for a 48sqm condo! Apart from that my budget is similar to yours, though I have a Thai partner as well

Hey Roy, thanks for sharing. That's amazing how low your electricity bill is. Also, being able to live right nex to the sea at such an affordable cost. I hear many great things about living in Thailand also!

Waw .That's really expensive for such a countery at south east asia !! Neiboring countries is one quarter cost especially for rent and food .
I Wonder how locals can survive with those high expenses since I am quit sure that their salaries are less than your 1 bedroom apartment monthly rent!!

Sounds like you have a good life. -- Eating out can be expensive if done a lot. > 2024 as I post my comment - and in the Philippines - a Big Mac - 'meal' - is only $3.85 ! -- 12" Subway is $4.00. - - - I know Cambodia doesn't have McDonalds. --- They are different countries but offer cheap cost of living - both '''can be''' up to 70% less than the US average ! --- Your budget would be really good in the Philippines also. 🤗 Thanks for sharing all that. 🙏 👍 🍺

I see your budget - for what it is. --- PP is more expensive than Siem Reap - where I would much prefer to be living ! --- ? --- 25% less in SR is about $1250 / mo. and quite friendly. > Not bad either place compared to the US !!!

The fruit and veg markets are cheap. Avocados , mangoes, papaya, eat healthy.

Your cost of living is way too expensive compared to average Cambodian people. Average monthly cost of living in Cambodia is around 200-300usd per person. You must have a nice job here. Somehow you say Khmer food names are really sound like native Khmer.

If you open your windows and turn off your aircon you'll have more money available for food. (Try using a fan instead. It's not that hot here.)
Cooking at home for one person can be a drag. Some people enjoy cooking, go figure. They would eat better than you for much less.
As others have said, fruit and veg is cheap, fresh and abundant at the local market. Meat and seafood at the local market is also fresh and cheaper than a restaurant. The seafood ( and freshwater species) is alive, that's fresher than your restaurant, and the beef is so fresh it's still warm (think about it).
I don't know which restaurants you go to, but you can spend less completely outsourcing your fodder requirements at clean, cheaper restaurants than you stated you are currently spending. Eat where you see locals eating alot.
Take it as a challenge mate!
You can live well enough to kill yourself extravagantly for a lot less than you currently spend.
    Save where you can.
(Save the powdered protein for later in life when you're infirm, drooling and coughing in your rompers)

The heat is depend on each person. I have zero tolerance for heat.
My eczema and heat rash would’ve flared and I would’ve got a heat stroke.
Still, I want to go just for the food there.

Maybe you should learn how to speak and understand Khmer? Unlike you, I understood every word he’d spoken.
