- I used a piece of unknown wood for the body of the birdhouse, and cedar for the top and bottom. I also used butcher block oil for the finish. Thanks for watching, I truly hope you enjoyed it!

Awesome work
Thanks, Mike! I appreciate it! 👍🏻
Looking good Mike. Happy Holidays.
Thanks, Dave! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
How Stinking Cute!!! That's one of the Most Gorgeous turnings that I have seen! And most definitely the prettiest birdhouses I've ever seen! I may have to see about ordering one of those from you! Would be so pretty near my blue hydrangea (if it comes back🙁) in the spring and summer! 🥰
Thanks, Peach! I appreciate it very much! My wife hasn’t had much luck with hydrangeas down here. She pretty much gave up on them. 😔
i love this video , my mom is wanting one of these , and i love that you made it out of cedar, so it will last alot longer!
Thanks so much! My mother in law got this one and she hung it up inside. She doesn’t want it to get damaged or deteriorate lol. I may make another for real use. Thanks for the nice words 👍🏻
Looks great
Thank you, sir.
Very nice birdhouse
Thanks, Chris!
Nice job, I've been meaning to turn a bird house for ages. Your comment about "butcher block oil" BBO is just another fancy name for mineral oil. This oil is not considered a finishing oil but a preservative and therfore never completely dries. Mineral oil (or liquid parrafin as it is sometimes known) was the best for chopping boards back in the '70s. Completely safe and cheap. For a food safe finishing oil, which does dry relatively quickly walnut oil is considered #1. but any "nut" oil will work. Happy turning and Merry Christmas,
Thanks! I didn’t know that about BBO, I could’ve saved money just using the mineral oil. lol I’ll give walnut oil a try. Thanks for that info!
Sho nuff pretty sir fine job turning..
Thank you, Bobby! I liked doing this one, I need to do more soon. I appreciate it!
This is beautiful...
Thank you very much! 👍🏻
Nice brother!
Thanks, Eric. I appreciate it!
Super beautiful finished product! I would keep that in the house, it is artwork. Keep the bird poop off of it.
Thank you so much, Shelley! I gave it to my mother in law and yep, she hung it up inside. 🙂 thanks again for your kind words!
Merry Christmas and happy new year's
Thanks, Luie! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours as well. 🙂
Hi Mike....that's a great little bird house...great design and I really like the Cedar wood...I don't think we get it here in the UK...hope that you and yours have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year...All the best.....Andy
Thanks, Andy! You’d love turning cedar, it makes the whole shop smell great! My in-laws may be cutting down some cedar, if they do I’ll try to get some to you. 🙂
I am going to have to stop watching your videos Mike... Now I have to go make me one of these birdhouse's for my wife. Nice job
😂 I’m glad I could, umm, help? 😬
I'm in the process of making one now. Using cedar and oak. Just need to find the bird.😁
I enjoyed making this one, and I believe I got the birds at Michaels. Either there or hobby lobby, I can’t remember for sure. Unless you’re talking about a real one, then I can’t help much there. 😁
Very good looking birdhouse my friend 👌 Perfectly matched wood. Abrasive paste is still working 💪 Great job Mike.
P. S.
Where is the verse from Bible for this week?
Thanks, brother! I appreciate it! The Bible verse (Psalm 30:5) is at the beginning of the pictures in the lower left, it’s just smaller than usual. I was trying something new. 🙂
@@ScenicCityWoodturning Now I see ("Patrzycie a nie widzicie") Thanks brother. Merry Christmas 🎄
This would be an awesome gift! Do you think it would work as a true birdhouse? My parents love birdhouses and may use your idea if you don't mind. Great idea!
Rick
Thanks, Rick! I would think it would work just fine. Mine is a little small for real birds, but a bigger one with a way to clean it out would probably work just fine. I don't mind at all if you use it, youtube is where I get a lot of ideas, also. 🙂
Looks great, buddy! Just trying to get all caught up on channels... LOL
Thanks, DD! I know how it feels, so many good videos to watch, I don’t know if I’ll ever catch up. lol Thanks again! Mike
I see you are using carbide tools. I am just starting to turn and my brother suggested carbide. Not wanting to invest a lot into sharpening equipment, so would like to know what is good. Great bird house!
Hi, Jeff thanks for stopping by! Carbide is a little more expense to purchase and you have to keep buying the replacement tips, but those tips last quite a while for the most part. Most of them can be turned slightly to use a different spot when they start getting dull. They are usually easier to use and learn on, also. I’ve used both the less expensive yufotol or generic brands from Amazon and more expensive Easy Wood Tools brand and they all work the same to me. Traditional tools seem to work better, but there is the initial learning curve to them, and the cost of sharpening equipment. I hope this answered your question and doesn’t make it more confusing. Let me know if you have more questions and I’ll try to help out as much as I can. Take care and thanks for the kind words! 🙂
Depending on the bird- you usually do not want to add a perch. It aids predators.
Good point, I never thought of that. This one is just for decoration, though so no real birds will be in there. Thanks for the tip, I’ll remember that for the real ones. 👍🏻
That's a pretty cool bird feeder! New sub and new wood turner here. Hope to you around:-)
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words and the sub. 👍🏻
Be careful when you use that large bit the hot wood cab ignite the saw dust on you lathe-bed don’t ask how I know 🤬luckily I was still in my shop I’ve done few bird houses on the lathe good gifts or to sell they look nice
Yeah, it made me nervous, but I was watching for the wood to start burning. I didn't even think about the dust on the lathe. I had the speed up too high trying to finish it quicker (I know, that's how it always starts).
