My father was a man of slight build. He fathered 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls. He worked so hard to support us while mom managed the household. He never said I love you, but I knew in my heart that he did. Daddy, you would be proud of the man that I've become thanks to your blueprint. I miss you and love you. Rest in heaven pops.
Today 1/21/16 marks 41 years since my wonderful Father departed this life. Dad we love you and thank you for raising us up right. Your excellent example of being a man is the greatest
My Dad suffered from rheumatism from his middle 20s until his death at the age of 68. He suffered so badly such that he had to be forced out of bed whilst in great pain as my mother realised that if she left him there he would never get out of bed again. He held down a full time job during the week and then walked over 6 miles there and back to a farm on the weekend to work to provide for his family, what a man. I never appreciated his commitment to us until he was gone, more fool me. Thank you Dad.
My father suffered all of my life. He had a problem with balance a very gentleman. He walked like Fred Sanford. At the Carrie id to let police know he wasn't drunk, but he gave all he could to his family. I miss you dad
My great-grandfather was the man I strove to be like. A workhorse of a man... I know some things I did in life disappointed him, but he never stopped loving me, never stopped teaching me what a man is. He went home with Jesus in 1982, and my Great-grandmother in 1996, but the Christian foundation they laid, I stand upon. Not perfect, but striving every day for better. I miss them both so much and hope to see them again someday. 🥰😭❤💯🙌🙏💪
This is such a great song giving recognition to the hard work our parents gave b to keep and raise us back in the day when times were hard and racial injustice prevailed for poor people of color. But our parents made it through to give us what it took to make it. Thank you Mom and Dad for all your hard work especially those with large family's from which I came. You didn't abandon us or kill us like some idiots now, you did your job's you raised us to become responsible loving individuals with an education at least some of us.
The best song ever by the Chi-Lites! A masterpiece, and Eugene Records' best vocal performance ever. A gorgeous, gorgeous song and sensational singing by the group.
My Dad has been gone almost 30 years and when I bought this record when it came out, I didn’t understand the meaning until I had my own family, but as my boys have grown to be grown men with there own kids. I hope I raised them right.
I'm 62 and never really new who my daddy was, but i loved this song back then and i always thrived to be the daddy that i never really knew for my children. I did as good as i could. I did all that i thought a daddy was suppose to do, but i had the wrong woman who tried to destroy that for me with no success.
March 19th 1924 was the day my dad was born. He and my mom, were married 43 years until death briefly parted them. They're both together in heaven now. He joined the Lord in 2001,she in 2012. That was the kind of parent they were.
Six years ago today, God called you home to be with him eternally. Although you aren't physically here, you continue to live forever in our hearts and memories. Thank you daddy for instilling in me the morals, values and ethics that have made me the man I am today. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you. Love and miss you everyday. R.I.P.
I concur with one of the previous comments The best song the Chi Lites ever released. This song is so emotional and passionate. I can't listen to this song without getting misty eyed. I never understood my father while growing up and thought he was weak. I wish I had grown up to be half the man my father was....
WELL TODAY MARK 12 YEARS AND 3 MONTHS I MISS YOU DADDY BIG WALTER aka BIG TRAIN I WAS BLESSED TO HAVE YOU IN MY LIFE FOR MY BOYS THE MAN IN OUR LIVES THANK YOU
Great song, many did the best they could, some made mistakes and this song touches every point of fatherhood. The true fiber of a man is responsibility, Integrity & love. Fatherhood is not easy, anybody can lay with a woman but bringing up a child is another thing entirely.I know a man who is married for 62 years to the same woman, today he is 85. His children have taken care of him during issues that arose with age. They still go to him for advice, he is still active in taking care of his family, though not perfect he is loved & respected by his family. I known him for many years and ...well this song say's it all.
Wow I was sitting up like most days. And I started singing these words. I forgotten this wonderful ballad. I forgot who sung it. It popped up. Been playing this All morning. I a senior lady. But it maded me sing because That was my daddy Strong and gentle as a lamb. On the playlist

MAN MY FATHER HAD SEVEN BOYS AND FOUR GIRLS. EVERYTIME I HEARD THIS SONG IT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES EVEN TODAY. I SAW MY FATHER TAKE HIS LAST BREATH HELLO OF.A MA
I dedicate this song to my daddy, ste p dad's and too the mom's that fill in as Dad's and to my brother's Rome Barry Melvin and my wonderful Mr. Willie aka OG.
I looked at my comment three years ago here (Soulsuperbad), and I had first learned of an illness that would eventually leave my dad dependent and wheel chair bound. I cried and cried because my dad was always active. Played sports and was very actively involved with my sister and I. Needless to say, he was a very healthy man. Three years later and the disease has gotten progressively worse. And I am still and even more so proud of my dad. He's still that strong, warm, gentle as a lamb man. Although I am a woman, I hope to be everything my daddy raised me to be.
Candace Smith HI, I AM A LITTLE LATE WITH MY REPLY, I NEVER KNEW MY DAD, BUT IF I HAD YOUR DAD SOUNDS LIKE WHAT I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE HAD. VERY BLESSED YOU ARE, AND I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. AND YOUR DAD
CHI-LITES IN TOP 10 DEAD OR ALIVE. EUGENE RECORD IN TOP 10 DEAD OR ALIVE. BIG ON "LOVE IS" !! AT 13 or 14 , IT MADE ME LOOK AT GIRLS FROM ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE.(spiritual)
I live in St.Louis and there is no format for this kind of music. Its a time and a generation forgotten. The radio stations here refer to ole school as being Frankey Beverly and Maze Stevie Wonder and Marvin.Don't get me wrong I loved these artist, but they also play 90 percent of Rap, Funk and whatever else.Nothing that can take me to the days when songs like this existed. Its really kind of sad because I can ask someone have they ever heard of the Chi-lites the Moments,Delfonics, they have no Idea of who I am talking about.Whatever happen to soul music,I guess it became R&B so the the other stations could play it.So to me the term ole school music is music with no Soul, and several generations forgotten....
I agree I live in St. Louis and it's exactly just like you posted. Sad to say, but this is old school the Chi-Lites, the Emotions, the Delphonics, the Stylistics, the Montclairs from East St.Louis featuring Phil Perry, BloodStone and so much more. But yeah you're right that rap is dominating the airwaves in our town.
I live in Cleveland and it's the same way. We have an oldies station but the only black music that gets played is the later Motown. We have a urban station, but they do not play music from the 60s and 70s.
I CRYED WHEN YOU SAID THAT, BECAUSE YOU ARE SO RIGHT, IT,S A SAD GENERATION THAT I REALLY DON,T WANT NO PART OF BECAUSE OF THEIR MUSIC, OLD SHOOL MUSIC HAD LOVE AND MEANING, AND WHEN I HER IT, IT,S A WONDERFUL THING, IT MAKES ME HOPEFUL AND IT BRINGS ME CLOSE TO GOD, PEACE.
I hope this song lives in the hearts of my kids kids kids , all I have is them and their mother, thank you lord for that, I am blessed to be a father !
I heard this today, I love it! What a blessing to hear. I lost my dad two years go, how I miss him. He is and always will be my hero My children have lost there father seven years ago to cancer. I am sending this to them. I am a woman so I'm saying let me be the daughter my daddy would have said job well done. that He will someday see me again and I can say daddy I worked hard to be just like you.
I UNDERSTAND SIR. BUT AS MILLIONS ALREADY KNOW, GRANDPA STEPPED IN AND WAS AND WILL FOREVER MORE BE DADDY. MY UNCLE WAS MY DADDY AND ALWAYS WILL BE. REST IN PEACE CALVIN HENRY SPARKS. I STILL MISS YOU AND WILL FOREVER LOVE YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEACHING ME AND BEING IN MY LIFE. MY BIOLOGICAL FATHER NEVER TOOK THE TIME FOR ME. GOD BLESS YOU SIR. MUCH LOVE. SEE YA!!!
There wouldn't be so much SHIT out here if they MADE children/kids growing up today listen to this type of music.........plus if the system MADE girls and guys that got babies, MARRY EACH OTHER with NO MANDATORY DIVORCE until the kids turn 20. I guess I'm venting.
to all of you men who provide the sperm and a man step in to be these children daddy my hat goes off to thoses men who took on this responiblity to raise thiese children who they raise as thier own '

One of the better songs from summer 1969.

Eugene record was a genius. Very iconic and underated.
My father suffered all of my life. He had a problem with balance a very gentleman. He walked like Fred Sanford. At the Carrie id to let police know he wasn't drunk, but he gave all he could to his family. I miss you dad

This song is so under rated ... I just wish the groups now had a quarter the soul in their music as there did then !!!
A wonderful and beautiful song... It brings back memories of my Dad. Who i truly miss and will always be remembered with much love. R.I.P. C.J.S.
