  • In this second episode we will continue with some basics. I will show you how you can prepare your dividers for first use and off course how you can use them. Not only for drawing circles but as a measuring and scribing tool as well. We are going to continue where we stopped at our first lesson as well. You are going to learn how to cut sharp corners, round corners and circles with your saw blade. All in preparation of next week, when we are going to make our first piece of jewelry.
    If you have always wanted to become a metalsmith or are interested in making your own jewelry than feel free to watch all 18 episodes of my metalsmithing course. You can find the entire course right here on my youtube channel. Just check out the 'free metalsmithing and jewelry making' playlist.
    The metalsmithing tool kits are no longer available on my website. It was taking up too much time that I would rather spend behind the bench. The companies listed below are stepping in and would love to help you out. Best part: they even offered some great discount codes!
    To end up, I would like to point out that all my videos are and will remain free. In return, it would be awesome if you could take the time to share my channel on your socials or with your metalsmithing friends. That's all. I think it's a privilege to create a community of people doing what I love most. So thank you so much for your support, it means the world to me.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Bregje

      You sure are right about breaking blades. Broke a few in the last few months as I hone my skills. Have sawing down pretty good now. It is really about having a good solid surface and the peice held solid. As you only want the saw doing the work. As you said when you start moving it around and not the piece it breaks blades. Loved your videos before the class and love the class as well because I am still picking up little beginner things.

    Hi, I discovered your channel quite by accident & subscribed to you as many of the methods for metalworking, especially in brass can be used to build model trains, which is what my niche is so to speak... I really like how you present your methods & techniques and explain things fully and show even the minutiae of metalworking. Thank you.

    • @Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials
      @Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Mariana, unfortunately you cannot sharp the points of your calipers. Than your measurements will be off. That is why I wouldn't use your calipers for scribing (even though a lot of metalsmiths do so) but I would use my dividers for it.

      Hi! I had this question as well. Through google I found - it should be between 0.5mm to 1mm in thickness. It would probably be easiest to start 0.7mm and see if you'd prefer thicker or thinner from there. Let me know if you have found a solid answer since you posted this comment please!@@catherinemartina6469

      Just wanted to let you know that I have purchased the brass plates for the lessons on here from Temu, and have seen them on Amazon. Another source is the home Depot or other hardware stores. A brass push plate or a kick plate for wooden doors works too. You just end up with some waste trimming off the portions with the screw holes, but I have done it and it's an economical option.

    Hoi Bregje, de rondjes uitzagen ben ik best tevreden over netjes op de lijn en best goed rond. De lijnen zagen dat is een dingetje. T gaat best in een rechte lijn niet hobbelig zeg maar. Maar er naast blijven dat is lastig ik beland meestal op de lijn. Maakt t uit waarom zagen we niet op de lijn. Wat voegen die 2 mm er naast toe? En heb je tips hoe je dat t beste kan zien aan je zaagje oid.

    • @Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials
      @Estona.Jewelry.Tutorials  Před 2 lety +1

      Hoi Joyce, je blijft aan de buitenkant van je lijn omdat je ontwerp beschadigd raakt als je over de lijn heen gaat. Stel je voor dat je een heel strak figuur uit wil zagen en je zaagt op de lijn of er lichtjes over. Dan zou je ontwerp uit balans zijn. Daarom zaag je zo dicht mogelijk naast de lijn (liever 0,2 mm dan 2 mm) en vijl je daarna naar de lijn toe.
