Trepang2 is a funny spiritual successor to FEAR from 2005 and it's a great game if a little goofy ahh.
#trepang2 #fear #feargame #gamereview #gaming #games - Hry
12:39 - 13:03 brother you're so right lmao
Thank you for this video man ♥
John Trepang, put more Gianni in your game. Make him scream at me.
I really liked the game guys. Was a lot of fun.
omg john trepang 2
Ong real trepang²
So based
*YOU COME INTO OUR CASTLE*
SUCK OUR DICKS, DESECRATE OUR HOLY GROUNDS AND CALL US GAY!!!???
Why the fuck did I read this in the voice of Gabriel from Ultrakill? I don’t even think he even has a line resembling this statement.
EDIT: When I wrote this I didn’t even realize Gianni said this line too, which makes this even weirder.
@@Epicmonk117 Because it's the same voice actor, Gianni Matragrano. He even made a shitpost on his yt channel.
@@Epicmonk117 Because Gianni has a role/roles in that game and also made a short video referencing it that @tirefish references

TREPANG2 MENTIONED, WHAT THE FUCK IS A BAD JOHN WOO MOVIE
Silent Night
Uhhhhhh the some he made in America 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@WAcrobat19 Nah. No such thing as a bad John Woo movie. There's movies of his you may not personally like, but they're still objectively good.

8.50 FOR A HOTDOG? AMERICA HAS FALLEN
The world of Trepang2 is truly screwed
Millions must become voluntary brain donors
Shit homie that's just where we are gonna be in like 4-5 years because of inflation lmao
You mean Canada. That mission takes place in Alberta, Canada. Canadian team, so most of the game takes place in Canada.
That depends. Is this Costco?
Fun fact: That bit there where they show you the nuke for no reason? You can immediately melee the button and hear poor director just sigh in disappointment
You can also make it go off and get a secret ending
"Who's my favorite little psychopath? hahaha, thats right, you are!" -Bricky talking to Projekt Melody
My favorite line in the game
I’d like to add that the game has a sandbox feature called T-Mod that has features you can unlock by completing challenges. Features include spawning in every enemy, spawning in the final boss but an ally, having unlimited ammo, having an immortal cultist suicide bomber following you everywhere while repeatedly setting himself on fire, having enemies randomly spawn and try to kill you (even during cutscenes) and much more. The game also has a horde mode that you can unlock camo’s for your guns and achievements. There is also a DLC in the works where you’ll be able to use a sword. I spent almost 50 hours in this game unlocking everything and messing around with the sandbox in missions as well as enjoying the absolute chaos the cheats provide. If you’re the kind of person that can enjoy the combat for what it is the extra content gives you a lot to chew on.
Fuck yeah the sword, that's the one weapon I was waiting for the entire game and was sad when the final boss got to use it but I didn't
oh my god! they're finally gonna give 106 his katana!?
The inclusion of the SPAS-12 shotgun alone tell us how much the devs love FEAR. The shotgun in that game is legendary for how powerful it makes you feel when using it.
Fun fact!: the reason there's a 2 in the title is because Brandon (the lead dev) made a game called "trepang" for a game jam a while back and is a side-scrolling platfotmer where you play as a sea cucumber. The reason you play as a sea cucumber is because "Trepang" is a Indonesian word for "Sea cucumber"
I like to imagine this means our protagonist, Subject 106, is part sea cucumber with DNA wise or it piloting a suit ala Earthworm Jim.
Jarek The Gaming Dragon has a name for this style of game. “Wu Shooters.” Since FEAR’s combat was heavily inspired by John Wu films.
honestly thats a perfect description
That needs to be an official term
I prefer "Wooters"
@@Largentina. sounds like a male version of ''Hooters''

One thing I really like about the backrooms bit is that they put genuine care into bits you wouldn't expect.
Like the fact your shadow will turn around and look at you on the edge of your screen and I only found out about it because I took a screenshot and replayed the mission.
Oh shit, really? Looks like it's time for another playthrough
Now Bricky needs to play Cultic which is a game that asks “What if Resident Evil 4 was a Boomer Shooter?” And it rocks
Nah, Cultic is more of a reimagined Blood 1...but without Chernobog
Remember everyone, if Bricky plays Ultrakill, it's with buttplug support. If he says he isn't, he's lying. Don't let him forget it.
It's a shame that you forgot to mention the combat simulator. Combat is indeed the best part of this game, and in the combat simulator they extract arenas from levels as well as original ones and let you fight your way through in the "earn money by killing enemies" style you mentioned on the oil rigg. It adds a lot to the game in my opinion as some of the arenas didn't even have any enemies in them in the original levels. They even change up the enemy typed depending on which arena you're playing.
Considering how short the campain can be for some people, it would be a disservice to not mention this asset for the game as well.
Pluss the cheats you can unlock from completing missions are hillarious at times.
I agree that he should have mentioned them. That said if people will buy despite this omission it will be the testament of how good is the stuff shown on the screen.
If Trepang1 was so cool how come there isn't a Trepang2 ye- oh wait...
FEAR is what I like to call a Woo shooter. Slo mo/dodge mechanics inspired by Hong Kong action and of course, the Matrix.
I don't regret paying full price for Trepang, it was a total banger of a time and I needed more FEAR in my life since that series fell off a cliff and died.
Hey so, as a person who completed the last mission on the EXTREME difficulty. The mission itself is pretty easy but the final area is just bullshit. 40% of it is luck 40% is crouching in the corner waiting for your cloak to recharge and 20% is knowing when the checkpoint triggers. Though usually the luck can be substituted with waiting longer for your cloak to recharge. But the best tip i can give is that when the helicopter appears after you pick up the grenade launcher you have a couple of seconds before the checkpoint triggers so you can just dump the whole mag into the chopper and then when you reload the checkpoint it remembers the damage you've dealt. It's also beneficial to grab a stake launcher before so you can deal more damage.
I can make it even easier for you, grab one of the miniguns and hold down the trigger on the horizon helicopter and you can destroy it quickly without the enemies getting to your location or the helicopter being able to spool up it's guns. As for the brain upload sequence, DON'T STOP MOVING, and above all use the spas 12 incendiary for the sake of sprint and slow mo replenishment as well as akimbo grenade launchers with the seeker grenade attachment, the grenades will gravitate towards the nearest target within your field of view so you don't have to aim directly at enemies per say.
The only annoying part of the final boss on extreme is how unlucky I was with my checkpoints being almost a soft lock at multiple points.
rage mode is this but 7383847373837363738929 times worse
@@monsoon7034 I would know, I beat the game on rage mode. In all honesty the furnace room in the epilogue is the hardest part of the whole game.
14:15 as someone who has done that mission on the hardest difficulty: stressfully
That reminder that FEAR is almost 20 years old should come with a fucking trigger warning "Trigger Warning, if you're over the age of 29/30 be aware this might give you the all encompassing, crushing violent existential fear of 'OH GOD I'M OLD!!! 😱😭' and could lead to buying a motorcycle and dressing like Steve Mcqueen" 😂
I am 20!
And it still has that effect on me!!
I'm 30 and was listening to this while at work. When he said it was nearly 20 years old I reflexively shouted "OH CHRIST NO" and one of my coworkers jokingly asked if I'd seen a ghost. Before explaining myself I replied "No, but I'll be one soon."
Damn, FEAR came out when I was 18.... I guess it's time to buy that motorcycle.
Something to point out is that despite its short length, there is a lot of replayability with arena mode and challenges to complete! And you get rewarded with drip for 106 and your arsenal.
I recommend this game as a passtime to have some dumb fun with and it's an incredible challenge if you're a completionist.
One of the most underrated shooters I’ve played.
One of the most underrated shooters I’ve played
This and Cultic blew me away last year with how unique and fresh they felt
Trepeng or as I call it ultra kill but the Devs took their meds
Less ultrakill, more the baby of fear and Crysis. And maybe the parents pointed to the unmedicated child that is ultrakill
ULTRAKILL is more the child of Devil May Cry and Quake which subsists solely on a cocktail of drugs primary consisting of Adderall, Pervitin, and Estrogen
Last time I was this early, the god emperor could still kill me for calling him that.
Did you just come up with that?!

So if Trepang2 is neither a BoomerShooter nor a ZoomerShooter, it's... an OomerOoter.
I know a fella named Jarek4, his community calls them "Woo Shooters"
Because F.E.A.R.'s combat is based on John Woo Films.
@@epsiloncore9772 That actually seems like a really good description.
@@epsiloncore9772 A Woomer shooter then?
With how combat in this game makes you feel, it’s a CoomerShooter
Trepang on hard is 7/10. Trepang on rage mode is 10/10 for me. It turns the game into a puzzle on how you gonna cheese every encounter and i love it.
Same, the moment I saw how high I could put up the difficulty was the moment I knew I was gonna love it. The crazy feeling is that after tough areas are cleared you sometimes just get a reprieve and realize how quick it all goes down in Rage Mode.
Truly a whirlwind of fun, can't imagine the game on anything else
The soundtrack Server Technician keeps me coming back every now and then to replay this
9:28
You can take enemies while dual wielding.
And throw grenades
12:39 The two gods of indie game design. One is valid, but based. The other is based, but valid
Ok - I will die on the hill of defending the backrooms segment, because it comes so out of nowhere, and its so unexpected it can actually be kinda, if not unsetteling, then shocking for sure.
9:35 insert cloaker noises here
It’s unreal how 4 dudes in a basement made a game with guns THIS good.
Yep, funny slowmo gun game goes brrrr...
Now where's that HoloCure review, @Bricky?
FEAR series is so slept on and the only game that actually creeped me out. I’ll definitely be checking this out.
The fact that FEAR still has not been topped almost 20 years after release is insane.
that black cloud segment still scares the shit out of me. First time I played I got attacked by it 4 or 5 times trying to get to one of the upgrades (didn't realise I could close the door behind me to keep it out) So every time I stood up to move forwards or even bumped into one of the chairs i'd get a jumpscare.
GIANNI MENTIONED *-shits aggressively-*
So the secret to Rage Mode is war crimes. Dual Dragon's Breath shotguns and the Homing Minigun. And playing very safe, but mostly the first two.
“Who’s my favorite little psycho path, that’s right it’s yoooooou”
“Wow, Trepang 2 is so cool! How do I play Trepang 1?”
“That’s the neat part: you don’t.”
If it makes you feel better about remembering a game from 20 years ago, I have memories of getting a N64 for Christmas and fiddling with the TV until the Star Fox 64 intro played.
I'm just going to say it; With so many of these videos being sponsored by Audible, I want Bricky to do official voice readings for popular novels and even instructional guides... that would sweeten the deal for me tenfold.
Bricky. It's absolutely criminal you didn't mention how killer the soundtrack is for this game. There are so many tracks for each mission and they all are Mick Gordon levels of good.
Trepang2 was worth every penny. I pop it in when I want some dumb catharsis for 30 minutes
Man, you should really play ultrakill
I'm so glad you included a clip of Texnoplazm, i helped that dude out with a previous game, and it's really neat to see where he takes this new project.
with all these slow-mo explosions, guts and sparks it becomes Tripping 2
Why yes, you can activate the nuke the second you see it...
It's a bit of a pain to actually do but you can melee the big red button
bricky wake up, they made dlc for the game, its coming out soon
Another great Zoomer Shooter is Turbo Overkill. All the guns are great (like the sniper rifle that teleports you to the enemy you just killed), combat is fast and fluid, great dystopia cyberpunk look, and the main character has chainsaw limbs.
Gianni is also in it
Appreciate a video with the sponsor at the beginning so I can hit right arrow key 15 times or so and get to the actual video
12:55 "Bricky - Playing Balatro"
Ah I remember playing and loving the fear games. Good times.
thank god a bricky vid. i needed this today
It’d be awesome to see you cover the original FEAR that game was amazing
... I think Bricky actually SHOULD ABSOLUTELY talk about the ending of FEAR2. Make it an hour long epic.
Yes finally, large youtuber coverage for trepang 2 thank the lord
Who's gonna tell him they brought back soap in season 4 MW2023
He was, in fact, *Not in that tunnel*
If you click on rage mode it literally says “Our publisher asked us to remove this mode”
The screaming reminded me of combat. Myself and my friends refer to this game as PTSD simulator
3:44 they’re predicting the future lol
YOU CAN STILL TAKE ENEMIES HOSTAGE WHILE DUAL WIELDING, you just holster the left gun and get it back immediately after throwing the hostage.
Literally made me think of Hardcore Henry as a video game.
I keep pestering my friends with the absurd things you can do in this game, it absolutely rocks.
If you take one of the enemys hostage and drag them around the map, he will react when you make him watch as you kill his friends if you didn't know.
14:10 - Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh brother, you really don't know how hard it is.
Like this format 👍
Hell yeah, i was waiting for this vid
What's funny is before the game was released, the demo had another line in the Rage Mode difficulty description that read something like "our publisher asked us not to include this difficulty". I did the first mission on Rage Mode, and yeah, it's really unforgiving. Doable, but I don't think it would be fun for more than one mission.
Fun fact about F.E.A.R.: there's chests you can use through the console command (accessible in the usual command console way). And there's a god mode
Lil ol me decided after beating the game once n discovering the console to go once more through it in God mod. And it was really cathartic... Until the shadow men section, which traumatized me the first time around. I thought "finally, i can have my vengeance". And then *I TOOK DAMAGE FROM THEM*
The shadow men sections turn OFF YOUR GOD MODE WITHOUT WARNING
And thus I got traumatized even harder :D
First reaction upon seeing this video: "Aw hell yeah, glad this game is getting some much deserved recognition."
Second reaction: "Man that's a funny looking Mass Effect video Bricky."
Also yes I did watch till the end and I am looking forward to the upcoming months.
Theres so many times where theres so many particles i have to look for hitmarkers to know if im hitting anyone
I loved this game so much. I played FEAR when it first came out on PC and always wanted something like that but with modern stuff. Trepang 2 scratches that itch.
I absolutely loved playing through trepang, felt so snappy and polished
By the time when Subject 106 said "It's Trepanging time" and started trepanging all over Horizon, I knew it was over for me.
It's quite criminal you haven't talked about the banger Music though, how it flows well into the combat and the gunfights basically singing into this symphony of pure, unaldutery destruction.
Its still impressive that to this day there hasnt really been as many games with good AI like FEAR. They were truly ahead of the times.
Also, there's Severed Steel and Maximum Action. All these slow-mo jump-kick FPS games are all equally great imo. Each have their own specific charm.
Dude thanks for telling me about this, I frickin loved fear so I'll have to check it out
This was so out of left field haha! Love ya Bricky!
XDefiant needs to be reviewed Bricky. I need to know what Ubisoft did wrong now lol
This game freaking rules. Hyper violent single player shooters are one of my favorite genres along with JRPGs and 3D platformers
Hey brick, thanks to you I've read most of the Ciaphas Cain books and getting started on gaunts ghosts on audible
I've been playing this game since release and it's about time it got some of the recognition it deserved
Been watching your content for a few years now, don’t normally comment but you’re looking fit bro 💪
I was waiting for this one
God mass effect 1 has changed a lot
I was wondering when you'd review this one. Seems right in your alley.
Give skater a raise, the guy killed with the editing this time around
I remember trying to beat the demo of the game on the hardest difficulty. It took me like two hours. It changes you.
Great video as always man.
Also bro your looking lean! I dunno what your doing but keep it up!
I would highly recommend playing on Rage Mode.
It turns it from a shooter with op abilities to ur the definition of a glass canon and u will have to utilize everything to win.
I couldn't help but imagine Gabriel Ultrakill saying that stuff 😂
Recommendation: The Ninja Gaiden series (though I think it won't be your type of game). Just recommending mostly because I want to see your reaction. The main trilogy NG 1, 2 and 3 all have different versions.
NG 1 has the original that came out in 2004, then in 2005 came NG 1 Black, then NG 1 Sigma in 2007.
NG 2 has the normal release in in 2008, then NG Sigma 2 in 2009.
NG 3 and the re-release version, Razor's Edge, came out in 2013. We don't talk about it.
The difference between the versions, mostly NG 1 Black, NG 2 and their Sigma versions: is graphics, extra levels and difficulty tweaks. For example, NG 1 Sigma's hard mode is NG 1 Black's normal mode, if I remember correctly.
While I haven't played NG 1 Black in years. I always remembered that I could never finish the tutorial level because of it's difficulty when I was a kid, whereas for other games in the same genre like DMC and God of War, I could at least get past the first boss.
I think it would be really cool if in one of the levels in the sequel or dlc that would take place entirely in the backrooms. You’d start by going through a facility and shooting guys until you come across an area that causes you to fall and suddenly transports you into the backrooms and the entire point of the mission is to find a way out.
i indeed completed the time disruption mission with little to no cover or breathing room on the hardest difficulty that seems practically impossible
(i beat the entire campaign on rage mode)
If they do more DLC for this game I honestly hope it's just more monster of the week at the end of several insane arenas. I genuinely enjoyed how loose and laid back the story was in handling knockoff SCPs.
IS THIS JOHN TREPANG?!
