Tourischeva is iconic, it's not hard to see why Nadia idolizes her.
I don't know much about gymnastics but I can see that this is perfection. When something is perfect it just hits you in the face. It's magical.

Loved it. Nadia is one of the best gymnast's I have ever seen in my life! winning just 1 bronze but 5 gold medals is just unbelievable. She is so beautiful and flexible at the same time! I do gym as well and it is very tricky, it must of taken years of training to deserve those medals! :D

It's hard to compare great athletes of the past to the current. The sport has changed so dramatically that any comparison is quite moot. I like to look at these athletes as time capsules; the best of there generation. They face off against rivals in the same class of skill set and they came out on top. So let us be all clear headed and instead of saying "Greatest of all time"; be more rationale and say "Greatest of this generation" because somewhere in this world there is a kid being inspired and who'll break records when there time is up.
BTW: What is the background music ... it would make for some great inspirational gym music.

I agree that today's code of point does not value choreography, grace, and artistry, because the judges are only scoring on execution and difficulties. Now days, they care more about must sticking your landings than pointing your toes or presenting clean lines. I mean that is understandable, since all sports just grow and evolve to be more difficult. But the fact that this sport is called "artistic gymnastics", I may want to gymnasts to also focus on these very basic areas, like toe points, flexibilities, balances, instead of just focusing on how to pack the routine with difficulties
Amen to that! The gymnasts of today don’t point their toes when they should, they don’t have their feet together on landings, or arch their backs & throw back their heads enough. Plus, they’re not generally svelte, which might be a hinderance to gracefulness and height.
Love artistic graceful gymnastics, but it's more athletic now.With the level of difficulty in the moves today more muscular strength is required, which means the moves will probably appear choppier and less graceful..

yes however i personally prefer the gymnasts of the past they had amazing grace and executed very difficult moves maintaining the beautiful feminine form; simply poetry in motion. Nellie Kim; Olga Korbut; Natalya Yurchenko and I agree with Nadia there are some gymnasts today who combine grace and skill and Aliya Mustafina is definitely one of them

Nadia y Aliya son mis gimnastas favoritas de todos los tiempos.
La elegancia y clase junto a la fuerza en su ejecución (tanto Nadia como Aliya) es de otro mundo. Espero que Mustafina siga con esas características y no las de las gimnastas de USA, sin desmerecer el trabajo que hacen... siento que son muy bruscas a la hora de ejecutar sus performances 😕. Esa es mi opinión.

Grace is.. well.. graceful. This virtue is sorely lacking in today's "Artistic" Gymnastics. And no, I don't think Simone Biles has one ounce of grace or artistic lines in her. But in today's gymnastics, it apparently does not matter anymore. That's the part that is hard for me to swallow. I'm old enough to remember the gymnasts from the 70s, 80s, even some in the 90s and grace, lines, flow mattered. It simply doesn't any longer. So, for those that say 'grace' is subjective, that simply does not make sense to me at all. Let's get real here.

Grace is nice to have but it doesn't win you medals. That said, I disagree with anyone who says Simone Biles is not graceful. It seems to me that recently, European gymnastics which doesn't dominate the sport anymore, is jealous of he Americans and will play the "grace" card often.
Pretty ballet moves are nice, but add mediocre, choppy tumbling, and all your "grace' goes out the window.
Today a complete routine demands power, and Simone has it in spades. But by no means she lacks grace. Her grace is new and different. It's not "Swan Lake Ballet on-your-tippy-toes grace". It's graceful power, full of excitement, joy and passion. No wonder she is bringing hosts of new fans to the sport. Girls gymnastics is more fun than ever.

Right, the whole world is "jealous" of the americans........Typical american logic. The whole world revolves around you * facepalm * I don't understand how todays gymnasts can be seen as "elegant", this is beyond me.
First of all, I said "European Gymnastics" not "The whole world". Second, Yes, when you dominate the sport the way USA women's do now, you are the center of the gymnastics world. For men, I would say Japan is now the center of the world. I tell you what's not elegant and a couple of Gymnasts tried at the Olympics: That ghastly Produnova Vault.
Grafight23 Simone Biles is absolutely devoid of any semblance of grace. That's not to say she's not somewhat artistic, but she's NOT graceful in the slightest.
I love gymnasts like Ksenia Afanasyeva for combining true grace will powerful acrobatics.
But in my book, grace beats power. It's a real shame that the current code of ARTISTIC gymnastics doesn't reflect that.
Fun fact Romanians dominated sports like tennis and gymnastics because of the communist training camps. My mom grew up in communist training camps she told me how life was back then but you had food, clothes and structure. Yes maybe in western world they view it at abuse as it was relatively strict but this is what it takes to be the best and they gave opportunities to all that were good and wanted it. So you didn't need to be rich .

what is so great about nadia? if she were 18 now she would NEVER be able to do the tumbles that simone biles does!! i watch her rouitines back then and YAWN all through them!! i know that nadia was from a long time ago but her gymnastics are so BORING next to simone, i watch simone and im always on the edge of my seat cheering and yelling for her SIMONE BILES is the one who gets people excited about gymnastics!!!! i NEVER liked gymnastics until i heard of simone now i cant stop watching all of her routines!! durng the 2014 worlds in china there were chinese men (dont know if they were judges or not) they couldnt take theyre eyes off of simone it was amazing to watch they were all enthralled with her!! now THAT is a talented gymnast someone who pulls u right into her routine and u cant help but be entranced with her!! SIMONE BILES will soon be remembered as the greatest gymnast of all time and she will be on a level WAY above nadia comaneci ever was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember that back then, she scored the first perfect 10. And you said it yourself, it was long ago. 70's in olympics had different rules and routines than today.
+Deborah Porter Also you have to remember that they tumbled on much harder floors, I'm not even sure they had springs. Just as the bars grew further and further apart, the floors have gotten bouncier and bouncier. That being said, her double back on floor was really impressive. Hardly anyone did one back then, and now it's a requirement. The sport has come a long way.
the legend of gymnastic is olga korbut and nadia as olga known darling of munich 1972 as also she is the first female that do tumbling on the beam on that year also. for nadia, she got more than 5 perfect 10 during her era which is unheard of. yes, its literally her skills is quite easy for that time for gymnast right now but u must know that she is surpasses all the legendary ussr like korbut, nellie kim and also ludmilla during 1976 games. still nadia has her own move on bars and has quite high difficulty. latyana USSR once said, not my fault nadia was born in romania n not ussr n then win 1976 olympic.
