Interesting video! What is happening at the old Windscale site? Are there any new videos about the decomissioning work ongoing there? I have always found the story of those reactors absolutely mesmerising.
This is the site. It was renamed to the name it had before nuclear operations began, some say to signal the new era of cleaning it to a safe state, some say to get it out of the publics eye
@@the_retag Ah such a shame. What I'd give to see good footage of those 1950s control rooms and switchgear and bespoke equipment. I explored the old Pyestock jet engine testing facility years ago and that place had very similar construction to Windscale. Incredible place, full of old British company names such as Vickers and Parsons. They had seven 25mW electric motors there for air compression and suction to feed jet engine test cells and simulate high speeds and altitudes at sea level. If you like these types of sites, it's worth looking up Pyestock, also known as the National Gas Turbine Establishment.
Brilliant, simple solution. And an amazingly fast turnaround to success!
👏👏👏👍

@@the_retag Yes I'm familiar, I explained it badly, I meant the old Windscale Piles themselves, the control rooms, blowers etc.
@@MajorT0m afaik it is being dismantled or is already

Done on the hurry up, almost like a panic job
A job well done. BUT decades of pushing problems down the line, crude unfit "storage". Dangerous and a disgrace.
Don't go fishing around Sellafield.
total bs,what do they plan on doing with the crap once out of the tank then? see there keeping quiet about that, wankers!!
I believe the standard way is to solidify it and encase it in glass, not really fixing the problem but making it long time inert
