- If you want all the fun of going on a yacht without actually going on a yacht, you … should probably watch something else. Bravo’s reality show, Below Deck, does take place on a luxury yacht, but it shows the hard work that the crew puts in to make luxury vacations so luxurious. As with any Bravo reality series, you'll see endless drama, constant stress, and obnoxious rich people, but unlike some reality shows where the drama is exaggerated for the cameras, it seems that life at sea may be even more stressful than presented on screen.

As someone who worked on sailboats for 20 years, it is painful to watch how bad most of these crews are... can't throw or handle lines... stepping in and out of coils... don't know how to tie knots... I'd be shocked if they understood port from starboard...
Port is a wine, and Starboard is the brand of paddleboard in the locker... duh.
I suppose we have to understand it’s American crap ! The guests seem to come from there with no manners or class ! Just money 😆 x

I'm a retired engineer work on the mega yachts in the med the Caribbeans all over the world for years and years this reality show is nothing what it's really like first off the behavior of the crew and most of these episodes would not be tolerated and most of the young people I've seen come on board for first-time don't last a month when they find out it's real work it's not what they signed up for

I was definitely one of those who looked at this show from the outside and said how stupid and boring this would be. And even though I know a lot of the drama is because it's a tv show and whatnot, I still got hooked on this damn show! Between the two series, there are obviously some seasons better than others but my favorite was with Bobby and Malia.

You didn’t really mention the actual crew that work on the yacht. You can sometimes see them in the background
They have mentioned the officers before and Sandy even introduced them this season.

These guys ARE the "actual crew." I suspect you mean the true below-deck guys, the First Officer and the ship's engineer. They're usually introduced VERY briefly at some point in Ep 1 of each season, like during the initial crew meeting. Often if you blink, you'll miss it. After that, these guys - who are NOT hired by Bravo - usually prefer to stay away from the camera completely, especially on Below Deck Med (Below Deck tends to show them a bit more often). You'll usually only see them (or hear them mentioned) if there is a serious engineering problem the deck crew can't fix. When I first started watching BD Med, I only put together that there were additional crew members when I realized that the tip being split 12 ways didn't add up! XD

Hannah is a TWAT! Also, she only does this work for the show. She admitted as much during a WWHL episode last year. Andy asked her how many months a year she works on yachts and she said she only does it for the show.

I watched this for a little while. I grew tired of the adolescent drama, excessive drinking and vile narcissistic personalities.
The more I listened to the crew talk, the more I realized I would not want to cruise with them.
I do enjoy the show, but the one that makes me grit my teeth the most is Hannah. She takes advantage of her position; does very little real work (watch); reacts like a tantrum throwing child if you "dare" to call her out, but takes credit for everything good. Her romance with Conrad - that was a joke; grow the hell up Hannah - It was like watching a 13 yr old girl with her first crush. Shame on you-at your age; how embarrassing. Sandy told her how many times to stay away from Conrad on board - how many times did she ignore the Captain's order? Man, I'd fire her myself.

Omg! I just figured I was the only one who couldn’t stand her!! And not her as a person, her as a professional!! You’re exactly right, she always took breaks and always took advantage of her best stewardess’ work. Not once did she tell them great job or the table looks amazing. Or when given a compliment that wasn’t her doing say, “thank you, but it was, so and so who made it look perfect!” I can’t stand a boss who never gives credit where credit is due. So unprofessional! You never take credit for another person’s work...ever! I wouldn’t even do it if I was the one who did it & I was in charge, I would say, “thank you, it was definitely a team effort!” She has such unclassy and unprofessional work ethics to say the least. Now, Kate on the other hand, I would love to work with her! I’d bust my ass working for her, because she works just as hard if not harder!

One crew member did know port from starboard and, amazingly, what fore & aft were! The shows have quite a following in the ports they use, which can give rise to issues. But all this fades into a glitch compared to the number of workers working on luxury cruise liners who do not know the "front" from the "back". Scary.
I work on the casting side of Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean. The charter guests actually are vetted by the network
2:40 Sometimes getting into a guests cabin is an offer you can't refuse? Oh heck you have to. 90% of yachts and cruise ships have zero tolerance for crew getting intimate with guests. And the crew member will probably leave the ship on the next port.

Saw that Atl. Cynthia and they were the best behaved least spoiled group I’ve ever seen. Cameras and money didn’t make her treat the staff like some do repetitiously. Yes they pay for cruises every year and expect excellent service. But some are never pleased and quite snobby to everyone. Those groups are hard to watch for me sometimes. Money doesn’t give you a right to be an arrogant, improper, drunken rude asshole.
Really, working on a yacht is work and yachties earn it. Both of my cousins have been stews before and its real work. According to them, the drama is also real. And boatmances are rare. Quitting midseason is all that unusual.
It's odd how we don't call flight attendants stews.

Below deck Mediterranean is better in my opinion. I love Captain Sandy and Ben is by far my favourite chef. This would be a dream job on the exterior though. I couldn't deal with those rich snotty charter guest's we occasionally see. 🙄

Cynthia Bailey was the main guest on below deck in the past. It wasnt super entertaining so no one remembers it I guess. But yeah there has been a crossover
No 1, renaming a boat is bad luck unless it's done right. No 2, more than a few people in the maritime industry have a less than perfect past. No 3, Kate wouldn't last very long on my boat.
Nice show but if I were rich an could afford to have a yacht I would not hire any of these guys as my crew.

The price is a lot closer to $50K for three days and up to 8 people to be on the show. They have hit me up many times but this would be a very bad idea IMO. I'd rather just pay full price and maintain privacy.

After watching several episodes of this show I have come to the conclusion that the "captain" is more concerned with protecting his hand picked suck ups and less concerned with putting qualified people in charge. One episode hired a first mate who had large ship captain's papers and years of experience. The first thing Lee did was issue an unnecessary condescending lecture to the officer. Apparently Lee felt threatened by the credentials of someone under him. Another episode involved one of his suck ups (basically a head waitress) attempting to operate the galley oven and catching the oven on fire. Once the fire broke out she was so clueless she didn't know how to put the fire out and watched the flames grow waiting for someone to come down and put the fire out for her., Instead of admitting that she was neither trained nor qualified to operate the piece of equipment, she blamed it on the extremely well qualified chef who was sleeping in his cabin after completing his work shift. The waitress should have been fired on the spot but instead Lee fired the chef. Lee claimed that it was the chef's fault for not properly cleaning the oven. The chef left the boat and Lee was unable to properly serve the guests. He ended up taking them to an offshore restaurant that night. The third incident that stuck out was Lee putting an out of control punk as second in command. The punk told the ships engineer to abandon monitoring the ships engines to come on deck and perform janitorial services. What would have happened if a fire broke out in the engine room and the engineer wasn't there to immediately deal with it or be at his assigned station to prevent it. Lee is an irresponsible manager who is more concerned with surrounding himself with YES MEN than running a safe operation. This style of management can only lead to running off qualified employees in order to establish and preserve a clique system. In all honestly I don't know why the owners of the charter company haven't fired him. Are they waiting for some guests to die before looking at the captain's performance?

This season finally revealed what’s behind Hannah’s crazy eyes bulging stare. In my experience I always found people with that kind of stare to be either on drugs or slightly odd.
Hannah was my least favourite member! So up her own ass and arrogant. Believed her own ‘I’m THE Chief Stew’ press way too much
