This is my first time visiting Truckee California. This area has been a welcome surprise. It is absolutely beautiful here. I also got to experience a day of rain. I’ve been wishing for a rainy day for months. I’m smitten with Truckee and wish I could stay here a long time.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.
In an effort to help viewers search for the best prices on products that I use, I’ve started an Amazon Influencer link:

Of course you are a real CZcamsr!
I have been watching your blogging since at least 2016.
You have influenced me to downsize and be happy with what I have.
How you react to life changes is very considered and calming.
Thank you for sharing your life’s adventures
Thank you, Sherry
Wow Scott glad I found this one. So beautiful wow you’re so lucky to experience all that Mother Nature has to offer. And of course great coffee lol. Thanks Scott 🤙
Most people think feet are ugly and would prefer not to look at them or think about them, but you're absolutely right that human toes are evolutionarily designed to spread and help us walk!
Truckee is beautiful. Lived there for 5 years when I was a teenager. It's like paradise. Rafting the Truckee river, skiing, hiking..great memories growing up there. Enjoy!! Love all your videos! Peace ✌🏼️
Okay, I’ve been a long time silent watcher of your videos and throughly enjoying YOU.
Sent Mainly because I watch CZcams on my TV screen and haven’t figured out how to comment there.
But the time has come for me to take the extra time and additional step to reach out to let you know you’re such an inspiration to me
You are the one I tune to at the end of a hard work day and I need some normalcy and quiet in my life
May not be a big deal to you or others but it’s huge to me
Thank you for keeping it calm and cozy which nowadays it is such a blessing
I enjoy your videos so much
Thank you 😊
Thank you for keeping me calm and positive. I have relied on you to keep me grounded those days when I’m feeling overwhelmed or just plain selfish thinking my little world was the it and end of all
Oh…and it doesn’t hurt that you’re not too bad to look at ☺️
Aww, Thanks so much. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Wishing you well.
@jeanwest1058
I completely agree! Well said…
This man is a beautiful, gentle , kind soul and calms me as well. So rare this day and age. Nice to see and spend time watching his videos.
The walkway over the river looks fabulous to be able to walk and the view!!
I love Grocery Outlet! ❤️
I make my own creamer: 2c. H&H, 1 can sweetened condensed milk and 1/4c Torani flavored syrup. It's really good, cheaper than buying flavored "creamers" and I know what all the ingredients are.
That chili looked delicious! I never thought Truckee could have been such a lovely town. Looks really nice. The name always made me think of it as a truck stop, with all the associated connotations, lol. TFS.
I absolutely love your sense of humor and your down to earth personality!! But please come back to Humboldt!!!!
Scott,
As ever another great video, your storage dilemma reminded me of the historical documentaries of the submarines from especially ww2 , where they were stashing fresh food in all possible places….
Enjoy your stay in Truckee, have only driven through and by there, never stopped, clearly my loss - c’est la vie….
Cheers
Glenn
I would need more than one cup of coffee at that river , beautiful
I was in Truckee once . I’m from Syracuse, NY . Biggest pine cones ever. Beautiful area. Gold country.
Double thumbs up on your work this week. Total enjoyment listening to your narration and visuals on your vlog.
Thanks for your work. Stay Safe n Sound
Thank you
Definitely going to add Truckee to my list of places to visit in my self converted Pro master City. Thank you for sharing.
Good morning from Dublin Ireland
There is a sense of freedom to your lifestyle
I love the sound of rain on my van roof, when I was a child I would listen to the rain on the house roof at night, hmmm happy childhood memories
I like hiking in the rain, fewer people around! Haha
What a great video. You have such a kind & calming energy. I also love the rain & here in northern England we get a lot of it.
Looking forward to watching more of your channel 🙂
Claire xx
Thanks Claire
Awesome! I watched your video till the end! Looking forward for new video
Thank you
glad you cottoned on about the oatley, it really is easy to make your own for a fraction of the price and probably still healthier than dairy for you Scott. my husband keeps saying we must make some Sauerkraut - he tells me it's easy! I understand fermented is very good for you but i need convincing as its not my taste! I like the intro shot of you sitting in the back of the van - apart from goodlooking I'd say it's a picture of contentment!
Grilled cheese and chili…two of my favorite foods! Also, I finally googled polenta, so now at least I know what it is. 😅 I’ve put it on my bucket list to try it someday. I’m glad to hear that you listen to your intuition…always a good idea! 👍
I spent about a month in the Truckee area back in 2014. I camped in the National Forest up past Stampede Reservoir. I used that laundromat a couple of times, the library, and showered at the recreation centre on the east end of town. Made a couple of jaunts down to Lake Tahoe. It's a great area. I really need to get back there again. I hope you find work and can stay there as long as you like.
Thanks Al.
Having lived in reno/sparks for 40 years I have seen it snow every month of the year at Tahoe/truckee. However that altitude is perfect in the summer, when it's 90 to 100 down here it's 10 to 15 degrees cooler up there. If you have extra gas take a drive up north on 89 to grayeagle, it's a beautiful drive.😀
Luv GO also and Green Trees and Trador Joes
Actually what is healthy is heavy or whipping cream. Good news!
Thanks!
Thanks so much! Have a great evening!
Another wonderful time with you
Truckee is such a beautiful town. My best friend lives there so I’ve been lucky to have visited a number of times.
Oh how nice. Although I don’t want to visit in the winter!
So random I just saw another video about a train traveler going to SF and they remarked how pretty Truckee was and then you’re talking about how nice it is. Hope Truckee gives you some opportunities for your jobs
Free van wash.
I've never heard of Truckee, looks like a nice place. Not too hot in the summer, not too cold in the winter.
Our opinions concerning what is “cold” are a bit different. I just walked by a giant mound of snow… and it’s June!
@@StaticCamperVan Make yourself a coffee snowcone. Just don't use the yellow snow 😁
@@StaticCamperVan 50 F is cold for me 🥶
@@Regi869 The coldest weather I lived in as a child was 63 below zero farenheit, didn't happen often. We went to school till it hit 40-50 below.
Wow, what a great idea! Think of all the toppings!@@JG-kv4oi
Just add some maple syrup to that coffee and half-and-half and we will be simpatico. Your chili looked delish. I hope you found some work in Truckee since you like it so much.
Seems like a great town! So happy for the rain! That river is beautiful. 👍😎🇨🇦☕💦🐂
Scott, your vlogs just keep getting better! Great scenery, amazing places you're finding, and it's nice to be a (virtual) part of your days. I love your content, and especially the longer format of some of your videos.
what a video!
Enjoyed our visit 🌄☕ ... Thx for sharing... 🙋🏻
Oh, the simple pleasures of life!! Thanks for reminding me everyday.
I enjoy watching your videos. Really you make my day.
Careful where you park in S Lake Tahoe especially at the trailheads. Was hiking Eagle Falls and my van window was smashed and my camera bag was stolen.
Yup, SLT is rampant with tweakn thiefs..
Sorry to hear that
I too have been " forced" to eat totally involuntary grilled cheese sandwiches. YUM !
😊😊😊
Fantastic scenery
So pretty. when i have gone to Tahoe, I've never explored the area and clearly Truckee is worthy of that. I hope you can find some work there. Sounds like good news regarding the altitude sickness - that's wonderful. hooray for summer rains! Wow.
Bears roam Truckee. Nice place.
I miss rain.
-Phoenix
Beautiful sounds of rain 🌧️
Amazingly beautiful! Truckee in the summer. Bishop in the winter. Mammoth whenever.Yosemite got hammered bad.
This vlog was quite the extraordinary adventure with just about everything! You’re just not a cheeky You Tuber but you definitely are an influencer and content creator. I’m happy for you in the nice town there. Rain, yes, do we all need it. Well except for Yellowstone😳. Sure hope you find work there too. Did you get to go inside that train car? Thank you for sharing your life and opening up yourself😎
Oh, I’m not allowed to go near the train tracks so I didn’t go inside the car.
What a beautiful area! Great vid. This week. Thank you.
Beautiful place
Truckee is nice place, but you have to like snow & cold Winter too.
I live in a van, I move before the snow flies
Very enjoyable Video
Truckee! Yes! Love visiting there!
Love the sound of rain 🙂
Great video! Love to listen while I work....somehow it's soothing/calming lol
I only drink spring or distilled water 😇
I am watching this video way after the fact.....but, better late than never! A very enjoying video! ☺
Love the Rain. This gives you the most pleasant smile.
Beautiful tall pine trees, wonderful area. Take care!
That chili looked very good ! 😋😋😋
Chili is becoming my staple meal
The chilli looked really nice! Good cooking and Truckee looks a lovely area too!
🦋
Oh man you should go to mountain hardware and sports!! It's full of everything 😆. Also when your in the area you should check out Auburn Ca, go to the Foresthill Bridge, visit the local waters and Absolutely beautiful town. Plus lots of beautiful hiking.
Great video. Enjoy your time there and good luck on job hunting.
G’day Scott, I love the sound of rain on the roof. Truckee looks like a beautiful spot. Take care out there and safe travels friend.
It is so exciting to see such beauty. Can't wait to see the west coast for myself, soon...
What a nice vlog this was, thank you Scott
Thanks Chris
Nice to see you I. A comfortable place and smiling.
I think I would like to visit there🌻
Beautiful area for sure! Very expensive there. The Chili looked yummy. Terrific video!
Truckee is my favorite little town when I want to get out of Reno. It’s close, friendly and usually 10 degrees or more cooler in the summer. All the little stores around the train station are fun to duck in and out of too.
Love burnt toast
I passed through Truckee enroute to Sacramento and found the town to be gorgeous. However, while driving through there were several fires in the surrounding forests. While living at my sister's my plan is to explore all of northern California and find an acre or so of land for a small off grid structure. With a base to return to I can explore the Northwest, Idaho and Montana. Love your videos, Scott. Thanks for sharing.
It's rainy day, at last. Remember that song 'rainy days never say goodbye to desire when we all together...
I remember rafting on the Truckee river bout 40 years ago.
Beautiful locations, glad to see you being kinetic.I will try to remember to not skip the ads, 👍🏻.
Thanks. Please watch the ads that interest you and skip the ones that don’t
Truckee is a nice little town with the train and all the unique shops and cafe's. I lived in Reno for many years and it was always nice to go for a meal and window shop in Truckee. I've kayaked on Donner Lake too. 🐢🚐
Yes, Truckee is absolutely gorgeous! I miss No Cal! I was hoping thou that u are carrying bear spray? I’m sure u saw also those two young brothers that were attacked by that cougar in Cool, Ca. a few days ago. Real awful shame. U never mention it but I really hope u are carrying some for some kind of protection. I assume it works on cougars too.
Be safe my friend.
Yes, Truckee is awesome. No, I didn’t see that, I’m trying to avoid news of that sort right now
good video Scott.. take care man ;-)
😉
Thanks Kenny
Good video 👍🙏
Head back east on 80 to USA Pkwy. There are a ton of warehouses out there. Maybe check with temp services in Reno and they can get you a job out there. That’s where Tesla built that gigafactory. Downieville CA is a great place to visit.
Not sure I want to be in Reno
ALTRAS…best darn shoe ever!!!! I use to read water meters and averaged 50 miles a week..NO other shoe comes close to the durability & comfort became super important . Yes, they look like hobbit shoes but other shoes for the same cost that look “ cool “ got tossed quick when practicality and comfort. Believe me when I say, I have tried NUMEROUS shoes and these are hands down badass! SOCKS are equally important and I always wear SmartWool PhD’s…pricey but cheap socks suck & don’t last. We appreciate you taking the time and putting in the effort to make your vids!
Nice. Altras are the only shoe I ever want to wear. Thank you
I really like Darn Tough Socks. I used to only wear smart wool, but they were wearing out quickly on the heels. They are very similar to the PhDs, but last longer and made in Vermont!
I love my Altra Lone peaks..
I used to do Oat Milk until I did some research. You're right....enjoy your creamer!
I love to make a nice buttery grilled pepper Jack cheese sandwich with jalapeño. I drink some mushroom coffee with plant based caramel milk.
Oh, I'd be too scared I came across a bear 🐻 but beautiful scenery. Stay safe Scott.
Best of luck finding a job! Great idea to park near a sheriff’s office.
Darcey Farrow, where the Truckee runs through!
Your praises of Truckee have really made an impression upon me and I hope to go there one day! I forget if it was this video or another one (I listened to several today that I had watched before, and in segments) where you were talking about Carson City. That got me waxing sentimental because I was there... Oh heck.. can it really be 50 years ago, eeks!!
At that time my family and grandparents did annual road trips from Vancouver BC to Reno.
We often did a side trip to Virginia City, too. A couple of times we went to Carson City, and certainly as kids our only knowledge of these places prior, was through Bonanza 😁 My dad loved to read about the history of "The Wild West" so these names are evocative and have become special to me.
I was in fifth grade and was going to be doing a school project about Nevada so my mom who was also a school teacher decided we should look at the government buildings and managed to get us into meet the governor, who was very gracious. For us kids that was a big deal - probably our first "celeb" lol
Anyway, watching these I was getting all sentimental about our trips (AND Bonanza!), and I thought it would be fun to see if I could find a poster of that iconic map from the credits of the show.
Instead I found a small map printed on tin and have it mounted now in my hallway. After I got it up, what jumped out at me... but "Truckee"! The Truckee River to be exact! And the Truckee Road. I never heard of Truckee before, but I'm really fascinated since your video. Every time I walk past that now, I think of the town!
Thank you for this little moment! 💖
Aww, Thanks for sharing! Hope you get the chance to visit Truckee.
if you're still in the area look into the local golf clubs they are usually looking for seasonal workers
Beautiful
I have a friend that lives in Susanville, CA about two hours from Truckee. There’s 3 or 4 prisons in Susanville. Prisoners have escaped, doesn’t hurt to be mindful.
Have you ever done a video explaining how you came to do van life? I started watching your videos when you were about to leave Amazon in Seattle. I have a tendency to take a break from technology then come back and start watching again. I’m trying to catch up on all your videos.
I don’t have a video specific to why I started vanlife. But I do talk about various aspects in many videos.
@@StaticCamperVan K, I was just editing my post !
Thanks, I don’t spend much time dwelling on fear
@@StaticCamperVan I didn’t suggest you Sewell on it … just stated there’s 3 prisons in he area …
👋🏻
There was a miracle by the river while you knapped Scott, they came back and left their walker by the trash bin 'cause they didn't need it anymore.
Hahaha
👍
I love that area of Truckee.. If you have the time go north to the town of Quincy small quaint town just like Truckee. You're in Bigfoot country! Stay safe.
Bigfoot!
I like oatly, but it's super expensive 😇
Yes, so is Half & Half
Add some real bacon bits and jalapeño to that grill cheese. Hmmmmm.
I've never heard of this place. Looks really nice.
So, you are saying that you are living in a van... down by the river...
Arrgggg! 😂
He acts like the guy who played "Fly" .
Where? I’d like to meet him
😂
What a beautiful place so peaceful and tranquil thanks for sharing 😊😊
P.S you can always come to San Diego county and apply in temp agencies their always hiring you would definitely get something good luck to you 😊😊
Thanks. But I won’t ever be returning to San Diego.
@@StaticCamperVan Too expensive or something personal?
I've spent a lot of time boating/skiing on Lake Tahoe and skiing up at Heavenly. One of the prettiest places on earth for sure and some GREAT ski conditions. I don't think rained to much when I was there but I did see a bear in a dumpster once. :) Maybe you should store your bread in your laundry bag? tee hee Winters are cold up there but summers..... Perfect
OMG those signs.
The only fact I knew about Truckee before visiting was winter’s COLD. Hahaha
Mt. Rose gets 20-30 FEET of snow in winter and the door to the houses are often into the second floor, not the first. 😥
