A symphony of artistic talent, vision, and an eclectic choice of medium. Round of applause. Bravo!
Well said Mr Joe 😊
Wow, thank you very much!
Damn, I wish I could have said it as beautifully as you have. Seriously, I want to be you when I grow up. Lol
Seriously though, very well said and 100% correct.
@@brenturquhart7090 thank you. Best of luck in your endeavours.
@@brenturquhart7090 Brent, how long have you been a fan of Jim with Sprague Woodturning?
Cheers
Jim, I have to say it turned out nice, no pun intended. I don’t always subscribe to your methodology for the genesis of your projects but I do appreciate the analytical and philosophical approach you retain in the handling of your wood. The Common Hobbyist does not contain the same caliber of sentiment as us Turners do, but only hang their hat on the customary hardwoods of North America. Uncouth or not, I hope my words are encouragement and affirmation to your endeavors.
Cheers from ‘Scotia
Thank you very much!
Jeff, how long have you been turning?
@@WiscoDude oh not too long myself. I bought a 10” central machinery lathe a few years back and I finally knocked the dust off her last winter, she’s no princess but she still turns true. Began turning some simple things baseball bats, chair legs, and a couple canes and such. Nothing that could compare to this beautiful artwork of Jim. I’m a tradesman myself up in Halifax NS so when it comes to big lumber and chainsaws that’s where I do my damndest. How bout’ yourself?
@@jeffcalhalson1530 Retired military of sorts. Good luck with the turning. Stay safe
I know I'm not from Canada, but I what to thank you for your 24 years of service, Two days ago was the 6th of June and I didn't see one thing in the news about "D-Day" burns my butt. I am an army brat born a US citizen. Born in Stuttgart Germany. So again Thank You for your service.
Love this wall hanger, I know it was a lot of work. Another fine work of art by "Sprague Woodturning" Thanks for the post, hope your channel hits a 100,000 soon. Another book, sorry. The End🌿

It’s unfortunate how most of the younger generation know little about how they have their freedom and who paid the price for it! Thank you very much! I really appreciate it!
The good thing about watching your videos from "the future" is thsat I was able to watch these back-to-back without the two week gap!!
I commented on the 1st vid that I was anticipating how good the finished article would be and guess what?... I was right... It's beautiful!
Given I'm commenting on a video that is quite old, I don't know if you will see this, but if you do... Well done, Sir! Your patience is remarkable. Having to repeat fill over & over again must've been soul destroying but I hardly ever heard you complain.
I see and answer all comments, lol. The repeated fillings are irritating. Thanks
A hunka wood--now the mysterious beauty put there by its Designer is uncovered, released and enhanced by an artist, you! Thanks. And thanks for directing your commenters to make use of those three dots to make it unprofitable for those scummers to be here.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely beautiful. I don’t know which side is better. It takes an artist to visualize a finished product. You sir are an artist.
Thank you so much 😀
Your wife sure is a lucky woman to have all the best pieces decorating her home. I like how the blue resin coordinates with the yellow tone wood.
Thank you so much!
I think it's majestic, and will be a family heirloom centerpiece that will gather and hold many a moments in it's home, and will live on for who know how long.
Edit: I see why you would keep it.
Thank you Jim.
I totally agree! Thanks
Been anxiously awaiting part two of this project. Looks great and the grain is pretty interesting. Finished to perfection as usual.
Thank you very much!
Butternut is beautiful and this piece is unique and stunning. Nice work
Thank you very much!
We appreciate the fact that you bring out the natural beauty of the wood. For example, not using stains and such and just use a clear finish.
It’s very unlikely you’ll ever see stains on my channel. Most of the reason for that is because once they are applied, most are toxic and I like to make food safe items. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful! You should continue to post as you have been. I see something you have done and then stop and watch how you made it. You'll never please everyone so do it your way 😊
Thank you! Will do!
Jim, this wall piece is absolutely beautiful. It is a huge piece of wood that you did an amazing job with.
Thank you very much!
I couldn’t wait to get home from work today knowing I was going to see this piece finished. It was definitely worth the wait! Kudos!
Designer Epoxy
Hope you enjoyed it! Thanks
I had to laugh at my perception, as you were turning the piece, all I could see was a clock! It's a beautiful large piece and you are amazing to be able to handle it. Wonderful!
Thank you very much!
It required a lot of care, but the end result
was so worth it. Although slightly different
from your usual projects, it shines on it’s own.
Nice, Jim… real nice.
Thank you very much!
That is a really cool piece Jim! Just a gorgeous piece of wood. As for the audio it sounded good to me. Another great job! Thx and take care
Awesome! Thank you!
The things i have learned from watching you! Ever since I heard you say, "Butter Mutt", that has become my favorite term of endearment for my pup, Lilly. She is my precious Butter Mutt.
Lol. Thank you very much!
I watch several woodturning channels on CZcams, and have done so for two years or so now. There are a lot of talented guys and gals that I get ideas from but this is my "magic channel". I've never watched you for project ideas...just for enjoyment. I know I could never do this kind of work and because of you, I don't need to! This was a very interesting project...very beautiful, very different and very fun to watch! Designer Epoxy ought to have your image on their products!
Wow, thank you!
Props for turning something so large on the lathe without any mishaps. Turned out beautifully, love the blue resin and the grain is spectacular.
Thank you very much!

Another home run Jim. The wife and I have very different ideas about Art. She doesn’t understand why I’d want to put a piece lumber on the wall.
I’ve tried to explain why I think a good piece Walnut is beautiful and that Mother Nature is the best artist ever.
Then there is the fact that I’m a big fan of the Group of Seven, but she’s into the art you see at places like Walmart.
I hope you find a nice place at home to put this wonderful piece of Art. I’m sure you’ll see something different each time you look at that. Then there will be the enjoyment of the fact that you made this.
There is a great feeling of accomplishment when looking something like this. You’ll remember the time you put into this and you’ll see that your hard work has created something amazing and that it was worth it. That’s something we need to remember 3very so often.
As for the scammers. It a $60 billion dollar industry. Unfortunately it works, otherwise they wouldn’t have gone to the effort of sending them out. Your not going to stop it, but you are doing something good by telling all of us that it’s a scam.
Most channels don’t, so your already at the head of your class. Just keep reminding us it’s a scam. That’s all you can do. I’m annoyed with CZcams, surely they can do more than what they are currently doing. Which is basically nothing.
I keep telling CZcams it’s a scam, but it’s still going on. That thump you hear in the distance is my forehead hitting the wall repeatedly. Lol
PS. If you ever get a chance, you should check out the beautiful piece of Redwood Cam of Blacktail Studios has on the wall of his workshop. It’s amazing and I’d love to have it on the wall of my living room, but the wife doesn’t understand. Such is life 🤷🏽
Thanks Brent, it’s very disheartening that these scum bags steal from others and unfortunately they seem to prey on the older generation! You’re right, it’s not going to stop so I guess the key is to educate! That piece of redwood on Cam’s wall is very impressive, I’ve never even seen a redwood tree but some day will go to California to see the giants! I was wondering what that thumping was, now I know, haha. Thanks again!
Gorgeous! But...am I the only person who prefers the backside to the front? Both sides are exquisite, but the backside is simpler and, for me, more elegant. Still, I'd hang either side in my home. Lucky owner of this piece of art. Wow!
Others have said it too. Thanks!
I got one of those spam postings and I reported it as malicious! I never think about it as real, I watch the video and try to always post a comment.
I seldom even look at the little thumbnail. I see your name and I click to watch. Im not a turner or woodworker but I love the artistic efforts of the works you create. Thanks for another beauty!
Thanks for watching!
The wallhanging is beautiful.
The sound is good.
I report those scammer where ever I see them, even if not on one of my comments, on any channel.
Great! Thanks!
I was impatiently waiting for this!!!
It's amazing!
If I see the spam comment, I automatically report it.
You're the best! Thanks!
Before you mount it on the wall, attach some thin LED light strips onto the back of the piece so that you can indirectly light the wall (Super cool) and the light will refract through the resin. Take pics! I bet it will look absolutely out of this world! Really beautiful Jim!
That would look cool too. Thanks for watching
OMG IMPRESS with the vaccum chuck! Is was wondering how you were going to do the foot, thinking "no way this is going to go on the vaccum chuck"! AHAH! Great project again this week... Have a nice one Jim! ❤️
Thank you very much! The vacuum is all powerful, lol.
Oh my gosh! It looks like a beautiful Butternut Flower!!!! What truly beautiful piece Jim!
Many thanks!
That’s a beautiful piece. I got tired just watching you do this. That is a lot of work. Thanks for sharing.
Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
I am surprised there were only two inches difference in the height and width. With something so free form you’d think it could be hung any way, but I completely agree with the orientation you picked. It is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you very much!
I would really enjoy a SUPER SLO-MO of that first coat of finish.
Noted, thanks!
I love wall hangings, they give personality to a room. Thank you for doing this.
Glad you like them!
Congratulations on sticking with it. Lots of hard work, you can see it in the quality of your pieces. 👍😉
Thank you very much!
It’s beautiful and definitely worthy of a two video presentation.
Thank you! 😊
Jim, what can I say, It turned out an absolute belter mate, what a great achievement on such a large chunk of wood. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Jim your right, it is a big beautiful beast! What a wonderful way of preserving a piece of natural that is protected.
Yes indeed! Thanks
Butternut is beautiful and you've created a masterpiece!
Thank you! 😊
I love the wall hanger of course the blue added the perfect touch to the piece. I have run out of words to describe your workmen ship. AWESOME . Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much!
I like the back of the wall hanging better than the front.
Your not alone. Thanks
One thing I learned working in Theatre, is that light which is more towards the, Blue end of the spectrum, tends to wash out the color of an object. Especially anything with Red in/on it. Light bulbs with color temperatures of 2700K to 3100K will make the colors, especially Red, pop much more where as 4100K (most common color of Fluorescent lights) will make a nice Vibrant Red look like a Dull Brown. Might be something to think about in the new shop.
A simple test for this is to, in any fixture you have that has two or more bulbs in it, put a cooler (yellower) and a warmer (whiter or bluer) bulb in it, grab something red (lipstick, bottle of nail polish, Solo Cup, t-shirt, etc) and hold it in the path of one bulb then the other. You'll see what I'm talking about.
Thanks for the info, I plan on going with just LED light strips on the ceiling, then task lighting on the bench that I use most of the time for filming. What would you suggest for the task lighting? Thanks for your help!
Hi Jim,
Hello from Utah! My husband and I are fans of your channel. My husband loves when you use red and gold in your projects. I love the blue and greens. 😁
Keep up the great work!
Love,
The Osmonds
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching!
@@SpragueWoodturning Thank you!
Energy level problem? You always seem so energetic! Glad to hear you kicked it, you are awesome to watch! The wall hanging is awesome!!! Microphone works great and seems to be a bit clearer but have no complaints about the old one.
Thank you very much!
Found it! What a relief! I hate it when there's a part two and I can't find it!
If you go to my channel on CZcams, the videos are laid out in chronological order. Thanks for watching!
From the back I see that it would also have made a beautiful table!
Totally, thanks.
An absolute labour of love, and a feast for the eyes.
Your talent is simply... *_(chef's kiss)_*
Thank you very much!
The gold cracks turned out great, and I like the pale color contrast around the rim.
Thanks!
It's a beautiful piece, Jim. Pretty impressive how you can turn something so large.
The audio was fine too. I could still hear you say "a-boat" in your Canadian accent, which reminds me of when I went travelling and makes me smile, ay.
Have a great weekend, looking forward to your next piece.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
Reminds me of what they are now depicting what Atlantis looked like. Hi, from Texas
Hi Tom, thanks for watching!
Would look nice in any home. Future museum piece.
Thanks you very much!
Reminds me of similar cypress pieces so popular in the States during the 70s. Very cool! I am a Viking warrior and this is my shield!
I’ve got one of them on my wall to, Viking shield that is, lol. Thanks 😊
@@SpragueWoodturning lol. I'm not surprised.
This look great I would hang this in living room with pride. Man you keep out doing yourself.
Thank you very much!
You answered a lot of questions in these two videos that I wasn't sure I needed to ask - so thankyou
You are very welcome! Thanks!
Beautiful wall hanging Jim! Love the blue resin with the butternut. If you don't keep it for yourself then someone will enjoy it on their wall. Cheers
Thanks for watching!
Hi Jim you really are a masterwoodturner and very talented, you have a good eye for a good vision. The wood is magnificent and the grain is brilliant and beautiful. I've been looking forward to this second part and you didn't disappoint. When I first saw how big the wall hanging was I thought it would be too big to turn let alone make something out of it. The end result is amazing and unique well done Jim I love it. Amanda xx
Thank you so much 😀
That turned out like a rustic shield. Very cool!
Totally, thanks for watching
Wow; just wow! So large and it is a show piece that commands attention. This will draw people in to look at it! Thanks for sharing your work and effort.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks
Truly beautiful! It's funny you note that it's a project for experts, cos it's easy to forget that absolutely is (I do!). You just make it look easy! And the wood really shines, accented with that beautiful Designer Epoxy
Thank you very much!
Might make a great Clock. Very big clock, It would take a very unique clock to go with such a wonderful slice of wood.
Lots of clock comments, thanks!
Good morning I can't wait to see the finished project
Thanks for watching!
I love the back I think more than the front. Thanks for bringing this video to us
Glad you like it! Thanks
Looks like a shield trying to come out of it. Very interesting piece.
I think so too, thanks!
Another masterpiece! Hava Goodun Jim!
Thank you very much!
Great job on that the piece of Butternut. Fortunately for me I actually have a whole Butternut tree in my garage that I have been working on. Now I have a better idea of what else I can make instead of just bowls.
Thanks for watching
The finished color of the butternut goes very well with the colors from Designer Epoxy that you used. Its crazy that it only weighs 10.5 lbs.
Thank you!
With the piece moving slowly at the end, I think the white pearl swirls show up nicely, and as you said in the first vid, differently than the other pearl white. Beautiful piece overall!
Thank you very much!
Wow that must have been an old tree with the size of that slab and the amount of rings in the grain. Nice piece!
Thank you very much!
The wood grain is beautiful! I also the the blue color of the epoxy!!!!
Thank you very much!
Absolutely drop-dead gorgeous!
Wish I had a workshop like that so I could back into serious turning!
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely gorgeous piece. Thank you for sharing your unique artistry, Jim.
Many thanks!
Been watching your videos for a few years and have learned a lot. Thanks for the consistent effort to bring good content. Love your work
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Turned out beautiful. I think I like the back more than the front but as always you did an amazing job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much! 😊
Nice work, I love the way the center of the tree is offset from the center of the turning. it looks cool, lots of character!!!!
Thank you very much!
The new audio is great! This piece is even greater! Wow! I like the orientation you picked too. Nice job.
Thank you very much!
Jim,

Thank you for the monster cookie! It is a beautiful art piece. Thank you. I have a walnut cookie and you have inspired me to try turning it.
Sounds great! Thanks!
I see a clock in the making. Great work!
Thank you! Cheers!
That finish on that butternut is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your work. Please keep us posted on your respirator findings. I have the AirPro and would love something less expensive to use.
Whatever I’m going with will probably be more money. Thanks
That was quite the project. Beautiful wall hanging. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! 😊
Gorgeous! Stunning! Not only the wood & resin in their own right, but the concentric circles also give the look of Agate.
Thank you very much!
This was really cool to watch…. I can’t believe you didn’t turn this into a clock! The pattern you put in it even looks like a clock…. Audio was phenomenal by the way!
Thank you!
Looks great! What a finish! I love the colour contrast of the blue against the golden yellow of the butternut wood.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece, I love the color contrast of the butternut and the epoxy.
Thank you very much!
New mic seems to be working great, finished thumbnail is great to compare to what you start off with in the video. Love this wall hanging!
Awesome, thank you!
That would make a cool Lazy Susan.
It might take up the whole table, lol. Thanks
Wow! That is a beautiful piece. It sure looks like it would weigh more than 10 pounds. So so pretty.
I think so too! Thanks
Jim, have just the place for it. A beautiful wall hanging. You're very fortunate to get such a large piece of butternut, they are few and far between as you know.
Looking forward to seeing the large burl next week.
Thank you kindly
Love the blue resin with the beautiful wood, a lovely work of art!
Thank you so much 😀
Jim, this is an absolutely gorgeous wall hanging. I really like the green you added to the blue resin. You choose the best way to hang it, in my opinion! WELL DONE!
Thanks so much!
Great hair cut!😆 Actually caught you without a hat on your head.
That’s called the razor hair cut, haha. Thanks
That is beautiful. I worked with Butternut for the first time just before Christmas. I made my daughter a Charcuterie Board and Matching Coaster. I was impress with the beauty of the Butternut. I used the Waterlox finish as you use. Everything turned out great. Thanks for your videos.
That is awesome! Thanks
Stunning wall hanger. I have several bowl blanks drying at the moment. I can't wait to get time to turn them. Thanks for all you do.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
Wow, another unique piece. I am amazed by artists like you, that have so much creativity.
Thank you so much 😀
You should change battery when it's starts to beep. Draining the battery and have it fully charged for to long will degrade it faster.
With that said. You did an awesome piece as always. Keep it up.
Thanks for that!
This piece is spectacular. I love the uniqueness of this one. Can't wait for the next one, take care.
Thank you so much 😀
Hey Jim. This is a keeper. I love the outside edges and the colors and the wood figures. I was afraid I wouldn’t like the ring figures in the front, but they turned out just fine. Nice creativity. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Originality ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️love buttermutt
Your projects up soon. Thanks for watching
Very cool. It's tough not to love butternut
Very true! Thanks
I like the piece, but the center reminds me of a hubcap. I think, something like this would make a beautiful table top.
Beautiful wall hanging Jim. Love your work. I received one of the scammer messages last week and immediately deleted it. Next time I will follow your instructions and notify you and CZcams. Looking forward to seeing next weeks project. Designer Epoxy.
Thanks, I really appreciate it!
So many ideas, very creative. Another gorgeous piece. Lot of work in this one. I love how much you can continue to work these pieces to get to such beautiful finishes.
Thank you so much!
Hey Jim! Nothing wrong with the new audio, IMO. The piece turned out beautifully! Looks like that wore hanger could support your lathe - you’ll pull the wall down before that breaks! 😂
I tend to over build, haha. Thanks
