The Raystown DAM Divers are a group of scuba divers who explore an underwater powerhouse below the surface of Raystown Lake in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. They seek to uncover stories that tell the region’s history before the Old Raystown Dam was flooded in the early 1970s. Diver Jon Leslie said the group rarely sees fish on their dives and compared visibility below the surface to trying to navigate with a cigarette lighter.
Community volunteers from the Raystown Lake region have come together to share their stories for the 109th episode in the Our Town series. Raystown’s history unfolds as community members share stories of the old and new lakes.

As a former NAUI NJ ocean wreck diver I always wondered what was down there and heard stories but it’s a shame it’s so dark down there. I think I prefer the ocean, where at least my hang time is interesting!
