    In response to Florio's "tag" statement. Detroit is building a culture. They determined that Goff is one of the core pieces. Tagging individuals must impact their play prior to the contract ending (tough negotiations) and after with the "tag" decision (disrespect?). Why would Detroit desire to upset their locker room? They have worked so hard to create a new culture. Additionally, after two years Goff's contract will be under market value if he continues his performance of the past couple of years.

Even a terrible Lions team shut their offense down in their SB year in 2018 sans two long Gurley runs. Patricia actually gave Belichick the blueprint how to shut down their passing game. It’s not Goff problem it was McVays immaturity in his inflexibility of his system. He couldn’t make adjustments against that defensive scheme. He scapegoated Goff cause his own ego. He basically recently admitted it.

    Hey Florio.....calling out Goff's mistakes & failures from several years ago, rather than focusing on the fact that he is an entirely different & much better player than he was with the Rams is lazy journalism. Clearly your Lions hate has kept you from watching most of their games & as a result, you have failed your audience. Focusing on his time with the Rams & basing your criticism of Goff on it is like a financial advisor citing 4 year old company reports as a reason to avoid buying stock in a company that is currently crushing it & poised to continue to grow in value in the years to come. Goff is objectively one of the top 5-7 QBs in the NFL today statistically & is without a doubt capable of leading the Lions to a Super Bowl win (even multiple Super Bowl wins). It's true that he doesn't play off-script & isn't mobile, but the Lions offense doesn't ask that of him. Brady & Manning weren't mobile off-script QBs playing hero ball either & they are 2 of the best ever to play the position. I think Mahomes has distorted people's understanding of what it takes to be successful as a QB bc he has won so much recently, but he is one of a kind & not the new standard for what it takes to succeed as a QB going forward.

  • @helmedon
    @helmedon Před 16 dny

    I don't think Goff really rates the big contract, but...he's the only known quantity they have at QB. Nobody knows what we have in Hendon Hooker. My opinion is they roll with Goff and wait for Hooker to develop into a better passer. I'm not a huge Goff fan for exactly why they pointed out. He's not going to put the team on his back. He needs everyone to play well or he will falter.

      @helmedon Před 14 dny

      @@Baalzz302 I was thinking about that too. It was likely why a deal took so long. Players, especially QBs wanting term stability in a contract. 4 years isn't really that long and Goff will be 30 in October. 2 years is the likely window for him and the Lions before we start to hear trade talks. Hooker just turned 26 I think and is I the 2nd year of his 4 year rookie contract. I think they're going to hang onto him for a couple years at least without another viable backup option to Goff. I honestly think he would do better in this offense if he can play up to his college potential. I believe they drafted him with that in mind. A mobile, strong armed QB who can create and push the ball down field. Basically everything Goff is not. I like Goff but he has to have structure around him to excel. He's just not that type of player. Not like Stafford was with us. Looking at the way Brad Holmes is building this roster I would expect heavy preseason play for Hooker to see where he's at mentally. He has the physical tools. Goff will be the unchallenged starter for the next 2-3 years with Hooker under contract. If they plan on elevating him to starter they will resign him on year 3 while Goff is on his 2nd year. Ideally keep Goff, in his prime,, starting but know that Hooker will be moving up into his prime years as well. Gonna have to decide whether to trade Goff or Hooker because we probably won't be able to keep both. Hooker has the size, power, athleticism and big play ability to make him a franchise QB. But we don't know if he can put it all together yet. Going to be a big camp and preseason.

    • @Baalzz302
      @Baalzz302 Před 14 dny

      @@helmedon still, with Stafford I kept thinking to myself, he is great "but" there was something he was doing wrong that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I figured it out finally, Stafford wasn't able to read the defenses pre-snap at even an avg level, he relied on his elite arm and post snap reads. Goff seems to know exactly what the defense is doing pre-snap, in turn motions a guy into a spot that creates the opening he needs to succeed, and has avg at best arm talent. Goff is a Field General same as Montana and Brady were, Brady just has a bit better arm, more consistent spirals and better pocket presence than Goff. Montana had better pocket presence and agility that made him mobile as well. Goff is just very underrated because he took 4 years to finally put it all together. I'm not saying Goff is Montana or Brady, just saying he is reminiscent and not that far behind Montana especially. Heck you could throw Manning in there too, Manning was very similar to Goff minus Mannings elite precision, timing and spiral.

This guy had a first round grade before he blew his knee out and he's 100% healthy. He's had a year to learn NFL way of life. He's had no off the field drama. That's huge for going to Las Vegas.
    And if it doesn't work out it doesn't work out. The Raiders will still have their first, second and third round pick to make decisions on getting a quarterback next year, but they need to add talent to that quarterback room because what they currently have isn't good enough.
