After extending Jimbo’s contract alluding to a $90M mistake, I wouldn't trust this AD on hiring the right person. Additionally, now you have boosters that will understandably want to have input into next hire. Stay away from the big names and go for a Jeff Traylor who has success in coaching and has the recruiting roots in Texas combined with Elijah Robinson & NIL money... Recruits will come. But I'm betting A&M will continue to buy a big name and the cycle will repeat as that seems to be A&M’s “tradition” in football
I doubt this AD made the contract extension. He was 8 months into the job.
Jimbo was the first big name, proven coach (yet red flags) that had failed. Sumlin, Sherman, and Fran were not surprising they failed when weighing their history before the A&M job.
Jimbo had one high school coach on the staff from Austin that was in the front office

Don’t know who makes the decision, but how do you not put gameday in Corvallis this Saturday? As a ducks fan, there is no other game that compares to that of Washington and Oregon state, with high stakes on the line for both sides. It’s injustice that you discredit the beavers because of “oh it’s just Oregon state huskies will probly win”. I agree the situation with James Madison is ridiculous and they should be bowl eligible, but to not consider Corvallis is atrocious. Their fan base deserves that considering their future is up in the air. Truly shameful

Lets be honest. Even the years San Diego State has been very good they struggle to get good attendance. People in San Diego dont care for Aztec football the same way they do about their basketball program. They have lowkey been one of the better programs out west in the 2010s but had been overshadowed by Boise States success and never being able to truly capitalize on their own
I'm from San diego. It's a terrible sports town. Shouldn't be with that weather, but the residents there are not sports lovers. Supporting the basketball team with a 12k stadium capacity is not thst difficult. Filling up a football stadium is.

A&M made a great chess move firing him despite bad contract. He had to go to make the 12 team playoffs.
I think Josh Heupel should be getting more buzz for the A&M job, those NCAA sanctions handed down were more severe than I expected and he had nothing to do with it. Being handicapped by the previous regime does not endear a job to these top head coaches.

At least Texas A&M were winners at one time and had a good program, Unlike for example the SC Gamecocks, that pay these big salaries to but never have accomplished really anything of note on the football field. Even now, they have won 1 game against the worst team on their conference in the east. Out of all the teams in the SEC east and west, SC is in bottom 3-4. Miss State, Vandy, Ark and SC are the losers in SEC right now.
