I love the way you show off your first attempts at crocheting toys! It made me feel a lot better about all my protypes (first attempts at amigurumi) it also really shows off how much you've evolved as a creator 💓 brilliant video Elise
Thank you so much! ❤️ I always want people to realize that I didn't start off making beautiful toys! I started just like everyone else and I I practiced and practiced and practiced some more! 😂Amigurumi is a skill, not a talent. It just takes making them over and over and over again!! ❤️❤️❤️
G.i. Joe mini crochet
Thank you for a great video, Elise! Many, MANY YEARS ago, my mother lamented each Christmas, “My 2 big girls, and where can I shop? Toys r Us!” - because my sister and I (in our 20s and 30s) always loved the toys she put in our stocking! My mom and sister are gone now, but thanks to you I can still enjoy toys without the embarrassment of shopping for them at almost 70 years of age! Love it! 😻☺️
Love that!!! I've never grown out of toys either!! 😂 So glad amigurumi brings back wonderful memories of your family! 🦞❤️🧶
YES!! SAME! I am 65 and never outgrew stuffies. Now I can make them for myself and my little grandson. I am a beginner. 😊
At Dollar Tree the have the padded bendable hair rollers that are perfect for stabilizing the neck.
Oh that is fantastic!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!! 🦞💙🧶
Yes!!! Great idea!
Excellent suggestion 👍🏾
❤
Oh I meant to say some smart ass s*** like give me all the holes I can get
Even as an experienced crocheter of amigurumi, some of these tips are amazing and I never would have thought of them! Thank you Elise! ❤🤩
Thank you so much, Zara! I'm so glad you found some of these tips helpful! 💚
another tip for eyes, which might not be as beginner friendly, but it's really good for people that enjoy diverse crafting is that a lot of people in the Ball Jointed Doll community makes their own eyes and they have a whole variety of styles and colors. and sometimes you can find kits and molds to make them. If you get some eye shape you like you can easily make a mold and then make more with clay or resin, paint and even nail acrylic or gel polish works wonders.
I also use nail gel to make small accessories like swords, glasses, horns, noses, etc. It works wonders!
Thank you so much for sharing!! 👀

This is literally THE BEST video out there when it comes to amigurumi. I’ve just restarted crocheting after a 2 year break. I stopped doing it because I learned all the stitches, followed every rule, watched a ton of videos yet I was never satisfied with my toys. This video is a game changer for me, I’m so happy I found your channel 🥰 I’m sure I’ll be a lot happier with my projects from now on.
Awww! Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful! 🧶🧶🧶
once I tried yarning under I never went back. I was able to develop a technique that is a bit different than the one you showed in your yarn under vs. yarn over video and it has become second nature for me. This was a great video!
That is wonderful! I know some people like a combo of YO & YU. It makes such a pretty tight stitch! 🦞❤️🧶
it really makes a difference with dolls
"Aw, my neck popped!"
😮😂
I'm beyond grateful for discovering your informative, humorous and REAL channel!
Some people are annoying with side comments or pet interruptions, but yours synergize and put sunshine in our lives.
Thank you Elise 🥰
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
I am today years old when I learned Yarn Under. GAMECHANGER!!! Thanks for the tip, Ellise. ❤❤❤
You are so welcome! ❤️
After making a few amigurumi projects, I've realized the little details make a huge difference.
I like using plain buttons eyes or doing cross stitch eyes, but adding little details like eyelids, eyelashes, eyebrows, blush add so much.
Yes! It's all in the details! ❤
I can't read patterns but I can look at a picture and make a toy close to. Most of the ones I do just come outta my head and the kids I've made them for love them. Makes my day.
That is awesome! What an amazing skill! 💓
@@EliseRoseCrochet thank you. Idk why but it's just how I've always been it's crazy I call it winging it 😂
I don’t even do Amigurumi, but your enthusiasm and tips have helped me so much with crochet and even knitting (posture, attitude, inspiration etc) thanks 😊
Thank you!! I'm so glad!! 🧶🧶🧶
This was such a good video! I’m fairly new to crocheting (about 2 months in) and I am currently making a Frog and Toad amigurumi set for my son’s 4th birthday. I had previously made him an ice cream cone that turned out well, except for the holes! Now I know that it was hook size. Great tips!
Glad it was helpful! 🧶🧶🧶
This was so helpful!! Thank you. It’s so frustrating to get half way through a project and realize it’s not going the way you envisioned. Looking at it objectively is hard at the time but know what to pay attention to from the start helps identify where I’ve gone wrong and correct it before I decide to chuck the whole thing. You are so right when you said practice makes perfect. 💖
I'm so glad you found the I formation helpful!! 🧶❤️🧶❤️
I finally started learning to crochet just before Christmas and am excited to learn how to make toys (well, animals to sit on the shelf looking at me!). CZcams recommended you and I’ve been binging your videos. Thank you so much for all your advice - and enthusiasm!
Thank you so much! 🧶🐑🧶🐑
Thanks Elise, great tips!
I've been a crocheter for many years and there's always something to learn 🧶❤️
Always!! That's what I love about crochet and knitting, you can never know it all! 🦞💙
Hello Elise. This is my first time visiting your channel. I've never even heard the word "amigurumi" before. Your creations are stunning. Thanks for sharing your tips.
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
The video Tips and Tricks for Beginners, about amigurumi (a word spell-check doesn’t know) is one of your all-time best. It’s packed with information and paced perfectly, with very helpful screens of words. And, as usual, you’re so kind to newbies. Thank you!
Oh thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much Elise. I was totally terrified you wouldn't post today. We can always rely on you.🐶😀
Awwww! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos!! 🦞💙🧶
Thank you Elise, I dont know why but your amigurumis tips seems so differents that most of others youtubers who are teaching. Yours tips are concrete, and are about problems that a lots of people who are making amigurumis are facing! Lets say for embroiying the face: we receive a lot of the tips like: "Pratice!" Yes I agree, but there is more then that! The 3 things that did changed my game we're: I use embroidery floss for doing the facial features. 2. For so many years I just believed that if you dont get it right the first time, thats it, you're done, there is nothing else you can do!!!! ....But YOU CAN FROG your face features and re-do it until you are happy! Its simple isnt? But WHAT a REVELATION to me!!!😂 Its also because not to many people do it or mention it! So thank you for all your videos about tips and tricks on amigurunis.... I can't wait to crochet your cat lady...it will be my first pattern I buy from you!!
Thank you so very much!!! I'm so happy you enjoyed the tips!!! And you are so right about frogging the embroidery! I rarely get it right the first time! 🧶🧶🧶
Great video! I felt like in the last year my skills have really improved because of your tips. Thank you! 💕
Thank you!!! ❤️ That makes me so happy! 🦞🧶❤️
Cannot tell you how much I love your tips and toys, thank you .
Thank you so very much! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Elise! Great tips and tricks! You are the amigurumi Goddess!!! My go to is worsted weight yarn, 3 or 3.25 tapered metal hook. I use the over method but have begun to practice the under method, and yes it hurts my hands. When I first started to make faces I crocheted a few balls and just practiced making eyes. Thanks for everything, I always learn something new from you 💕
That's so great that you have found the right yarn weight and hook size! And thanks for sharing what that combination looks like for you! And that's a great way to practice making eyes!!! Such a good tip!! 🧶🧶🧶
This is the first time ever that I try something suggested by CZcams. Great video. Thank you
Glad you liked it! ❤️❤️❤️
I have just started crocheting amigurumi and got hooked! This is a very helpful video thank you so much for sharing these tips.
Also I am definitely going to check out yarning under!
I’ve done a lot of amigurumi but can still use some of these tips. Thank you for this
You’re welcome 😊
Hi Elise, thanks once again for this informative video 💖
Your passion and your excitement about this subject is what keeps me coming back, you're the best 👍🏻. Recently i finished crocheting a snowman that came in a kit and was gifted to me as a souvenir from a friend of mine who went to England on holiday. My current project is some cactus plants 🌵
Thank you so much! And your projects sound adorable!! 🦞❤️🧶
Thank you! As a beginner making my first “big” (aka non-Wooble) Amigurumi, this was super helpful! I am currently trying to get the stuffing right on the body of my bunny so was looking at tips and some videos from my favourite channels. Thanks!
Thanks for the suggestion! ❤️
Thank you for this! These tips are so incredibly helpful. I am at the beginning of my Amigarumi journey and have only made a a handful so far. I’m looking forward to implementing all of these with my next project.
I'm so glad it was helpful! 🍄
I’m so glad I found your channel. This video is so informative. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about amigurumi! ❤
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for this video! I had so many questions about starting Amigurumi and you answered everything!
I'm so glad! ❤️❤️❤️
Wow the felt neck trick is a real game changer 🥳. But the felt behind the eyes is a great way to have different looks. Thanks again for sharing your time and your talents with us.
The felt for the neck has been a great trick for me as well! Makes the necks stay nice and solid, no falling over! So glad you enjoyed the video! 🦞💙🧶
I'm an experienced crocheter but new to amigurumi. I've been so frustrated with my pieces being perfect until I sew them on. I've been looking for a video just like this and i appreciate it so much.
You're so welcome!! ❤️❤️❤️
I love all your suggestions! Very helpful and yes it takes practice.💖
Thank you so much! It may be cliche but practice really does make perfect! 🦞💙🧶
Thank you for all of your tips and tricks as always. Happy Crocheting!
You're so very welcome! ❤️🧶❤️🧶
Thank you for posting all these amigurumi tips! I'm attempting to make my first ami project, and this video is super helpful :)
You are so welcome! And congratulations on making your first amigurumi toy!!! 🍄
I loved seeing you share your different creations . So cute ❤
Thank you! ❤️
Another wonderful set of tips. I am watching and saving these videos as I am making my first bunny from your video. I have to protect my old hands from strain or injury. So I limit what I do each day. Sometimes I need to do a off between days of working. I am having so much fun.
That is very smart of you to not crochet every single day! It will help in the long run!! Days off are good! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you for this video , although I been crocheting amigurumi for about 8 years now . You had some helpful tips for me , I will use ! Thank you for sharing , I love toys 🧸 Have a wonderful blessed weekend 🤗💕
Thank you so much! So glad you found something useful!! 🦞❤️🧶
I’m about to make my first Amigurumi cow and your video gives me the confidence to get it right from the start. I have saved your video and will be referring to it while I explore Amigurumi! ♥️💯
Congratulations!!! It's always exciting and a little scary starting something new! Good luck on your cow!! 🐮🐮🐮
Thank you so much for all the great information. I will be using a lot of the tips you have on your links and you’re incredibly great. You’re funny I love your channel. Thank you.
You are so welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
You are FANTASTIC!!!! I made my first octopus/jelly fish. I just found out about amigurumi. It's a whole new world for me now. I want to make the pencil that you showed. I love that pencil!!
That's awesome!! ✏️
Your cute!! 😃
WOW! What a fantastic video!!!! You are a tremendous and gifted instructor! I learn so much from the information and tips you share! And what a marvelous delight it was to see Premier Yarns!!!!
Awww! Thank you so much, Michele!! I tried to pack as much information in as I could!! So glad you enjoyed seeing the Premier Yarns! 🦞❤️🧶
Hi I somehow dropped my iPhone and your channel popped on I’m just watch and subscribed ! Thank you

This video is GOLD!!! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful! You're so welcome! ❤️
Your tips are exactly what I need! Thank you!
You're so welcome! 💙
This is a wonderful video (as are all the ones I've seen of yours)! I listened as i was struggling with a worsted weight and a 2.5mm hook (my poor thumbs!). Thank you so much for what you share with all of us!
Glad it was helpful! 🧶🧶🧶
I knit and crochet and am learning so much This is amazing thank u
You are so welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
Great ideas and information about items for your doll. Loving it and thank you! I'm checking out all your links which I appreciate!
You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed the video! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you for this! Love the felt for neck tip!☺
You're so welcome! I'm so glad you found it helpful!! I love that trick too! 🦞🧶❤️
Learning about yarn over and yarn under, and hook yarn size , woohoo game changer, thankyou for sharing
You are so welcome! ❤️❤️❤️
Genuinely the first tips video I've ever clicked on that had answers to problems I have! Thank you! I love crochet but tbh I usually stick to blankets/shawls etc because I enjoy the way I don't have to concentrate and can just relax but I have enjoyed making toys etc and have even made some up as I went along, but I'm usually put off because the tighter stitches hurt my hands- thank you for letting me know to avoid cotton! I had no idea that could help me!
Also, I don't know if this might help beginners but when I first started I would play around making mini 'aliens'. I'd use left over yarns and make unusual shapes and experiment and get used to how increasing/decreasing worked. I would stuff them and attach googly eyes and because they were small and I wasn't following a specific pattern there was never any pressure to 'get it right'.
Thanks again for your tips!
That's a great way to experiment and see what the different stitches do!! 👽👽👽
How can one be a "certified" crochet artist? I never went to "school" to learn how... yet I've been crocheting for over 50 years, and never got any "certificate"! I do it for the love of giving and crocheting. However, your tips are excellent for beginner crocheters and knitters. The size of the needle is very important so that "hole" doesn't show up as well as the type of yarn used. The tips you give here are great. Thank you for sharing.
I wanted to teach crocheting at a local yarn shop and it helped to have the certification. I went through the Craft Yarn Council and it was a wonderful program! 🧶🧶🧶
thank you for all your great tips and suggestions.
I love your toys they are so nicely presented. I would love to see a video on how you make your tags and how you wrap them up for gifts ❤️
Great idea!! ❤️❤️❤️
so glad that Jackson is doing well. beautiful kofte and button band . really inspires me altlhough I tend to make only small things! with love Dee
Thank you so much!! ❤️🩹🧶❤️🩹🧶
OMG! I always struggle with getting one strand of embroidery that I actually stopped using it! I just saw you do it and my mind is blown!! I feel so silly! Thank you!!
Don't feel silly at all! I used to cross stitch and I learned how to separate the stands that way a long time ago! ❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic tips!!! Thanks so much for taking the time to compile this video!!! So helpful!!! xox
You're so welcome! So glad you enjoyed it! ❤️❤️❤️
Your tips are so valuable for beginners, thanks a lot 😄
I'm so glad you found them helpful! ❤️❤️❤️
As i observed crocheting yarning under is easy when you are holding the hook like a chopstick, while yarning over when you hold the hook like a spoon, that was i have noticed but it both do look good but yes yarning under quite saves a lot of yarn but haven't doing it I'm loving yarning over since 5 yrs of crocheting, this is very good video i love your teaching I've learned more.
That's an interesting observation! Thank you for sharing!!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you so much for the video! Your toys are gorgeous 🤩
Thank you! ❤️
I’m from Canada. I wanted to buy yarn locally, so I was on the hunt for wool mix like you suggested. I found it. I’m so happy. I like to support my country and our economic growth. Love the bargains in the US, but shipping and custom charges basically deletes the bargain. Sometimes no customs and sometimes yes. I don’t know why. Anyway I got gorgeous-vintage yarn in lots of pretty colours. I’ve purchased some of the books you showed and love them. Have a happy week.💖
I think that's a wonderful thing to support your own country! 🇨🇦 I love supporting local suppliers too! So glad you found a yarn that you are in love with! It just makes you want to crochet even more!! 💞
Such great tips! Thanks for another fun and informative video!!
You're so welcome!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you so much for these great tips!!!!😊🌸
You're so welcome!! ❤️
Thank you so much for all these tips 🥰❤️
You're so very welcome! 🧶❤️
Thank you for showing your tips and tricks, Your video helped me a lot.
You're so very welcome!! ❤️❤️❤️
I just loved these tips. I make the same sound when I have to do the face. I do a lot of ripping out and repeating, but I think I'm getting better. The tip about going down in size in the crochet hook was very helpful also. I'm glad you mentioned the eyes. I have a hard time finding the right size eyes in my local hobby stores. My favorite item I made were the girl Bitty Bunnies for my two granddaughters ages 2 and 3. They are starting preschool; I think I need to make them Mr. Pencil. I love your tutorials they are so easy to follow especially for us beginners.
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and the tips!! And Mr. Pencil is one of my favorites!! He is so much fun to make and super simple!! ✏️✏️✏️
@@EliseRoseCrochet I just want to thank you for replying. Many times people comment on videos and you don't get a response back. You always take the time to respond. It must be overwhelming to answer all your followers. Sometimes just a 👍will do to make it easier for you.
I love to do knitted and crochet amigurumi. I use a lot of #2 sport weight yarn. I love KnitPicks Shine Sport. This past week I was at Hobby Lobby and my husband was helping me look for sport weight yarn and he found me YarnBee Yarntopia. It is 100% acrylic and is a sport weight yarn. It is so soft. It feels very much like Shine Soort. I am using the ivory color as the flesh part of a new doll I am making. I love it. And I got it on a 30% off week (normally $4.99 for 40z, 113g, 312 yds, 285 meters.)The only down side is it can be splitty. But I don’t mind that. I just love touching this yarn and it is crocheting up beautifully in my doll
Oooh! Thank you so much for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Your videos are wonderful and so very helpful. Thank you so much!
Glad you like them! ❤️
I've taught myself to freehand jellyfish crochet projects (less than two weeks into my crocheting journey, haha) -- so, I'm working without patterns (initially, I watched a few tutorials and followed one for my first jelly, but now i just go ham on each jellyfish).
Anyway, I've been looking for ways to get better at this particular project that i seem to be accidentally specializing in, and I found your tips very helpful! Especially about hook sizes and yarn weights (which, since I'm not working with a pattern, i don't have written-out directions on which hook v weight to use).
Ill definitely be coming back to your channel for tips and such. I love your energy!
How wonderful!! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
I live in Georgia, and I use cotton for darn near everything! Other yarns are way too warm for wearables and blankets most of the year. Definitely experiment with cotton and cotton blends. I love it for amigirumi. And don't discount holding that yarn double! It helps bulk up the cotton a lot.
Thank you for sharing!! I love cotton yarn, it just doesn't love me back! 😂 Because it has less stretch it causes a lot of stiffness and pain in my hands and wrists. 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet That makes perfect sense. I've certainly found a few of drawbacks with a few brands of cotton, too. I'll have to try acrylic in sport and see if my hands like that better!
Another wonderful, informative video!! Love the new kitten pattern.
Thank you so much!! 🐱🧶🐱🧶
Thank you ... that was really honestly super helpful
You're welcome! ❤️
It’s you hun, that’s keeps me crocheting amigurumi toys and now I am designing them
Awwww! That makes me sooooo happy!! Congratulations to you!!! 🦞💙🧶
When I grow up I wanna!! . . . Im a newbie with crochet but oh man I want to make this amazing piece!! Beautiful job!
Thank you! You'll be able to do it! ❤
Another great video! Good tips for non-beginners as well! Getting ready to visit our daughter near Charlotte and hoping for cooler weather than we have in Dallas.
Thank you so much!! And it has been sooooo humid here lately! I hope it feels cooler for you, but prepare to sweat!! 💦💦💦
OMG! Love this! Learnt a lot!
Glad it was helpful! ❤️❤️❤️
So much great info. Thanks again ❤
You are so welcome! ❤️
You are amazing so detailed I love the Granny 👵 cheekbones ☺️
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Elise another great video 🧶🧶🧶🧶
Thank you so much, Marty! 🦞💙🦞💙
Fantastic tips. Thank you
You're so welcome! 🌻
Beautiful amigurumi's. Thank you so much for all the tips.
You're so welcome! 💓
Thank you, it’s really helpful
Thank you! You’re amazing!
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much.. great tips.. You are right...Alot of it takes practice. Going to watch the YU video, never heard of that technique.
You're so welcome! So glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️🧶
Great information. Thank you so much.
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! 🦞❤️🧶
30 seconds in and i already subscribed 🥹 love the energy 💕
Awww! Thank you! ❤️
I love Big Twist Value! Its a medium weight (4), I have just finished my first amigurumi with it and it was super easy to work with! Super affordable too, not too rough! Overall great! It was like a little over $4.00 USD a skein at JoAnn's!
Good to know! 🧶🧶🧶
Really handy tips, will put them to good use. ☺️
So glad you found the tips helpful! 🧶❤️🧶❤️
Loved the video!! Definitely subscribed to your channel. Newbie here can’t wait to learn more!! So exciting!!!
This is awesome!! So much great information and all at my fingertips LOL You ROCK! ;)
Thank you so very much! 🦞❤️🧶
Thank you so much for answering my question, without asking, about cotton yarn. I bought a ton of cotton yarn about a year ago to make a blanket and it wasn't the right weight of yarn. So it's has just been sitting there. I have been using this yarn now, for the amigurumi pieces. My wrists are killing me. Understand I crochet every single day, every chance I get, and the longer that the two years have gone on that I've been crocheting the more my wrists are starting to hurt.😳 Thank you for your information about the cotton yarn.💗💗💗
Yep, I had to stop using 100% cotton a couple of years ago. I ended up with pretty bad tendinitis and found that cotton yarn was contributing to it. Thankfully a lot of other yarns have some stretch and look lovely with toys too! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet yes, I love the woolyarns. I've never tried the mixed wools. I will have to get some of the ones you suggested.
What is tendinitis? Can it be fixed? I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble.😒
I've just started with this. I will not be buying stuffing. I have tons of old pillows and several old dog toys. Not sure what the stuffing is, but recycling is great. One old lumpy pillow will stuff a ton of toys. It doesn't take that long to refluff the stuffing. I'll be breaking my hands on cotton for a bit, lol. I found the perfect colors for decorating my room with oodles of toys.
Yes! Great idea!! I just filmed a video about this exact topic! 🧶🧶🧶
Great information, thank you
You're so welcome!! ❤️❤️❤️
I have only done a couple of amigurumi (a snowman and now I'm working on an octopus) and I've used fabric scraps for the stuffing. In particular (clean) single or holey socks cut into pieces. It makes for a firmer stuffing, but for the octopus in particular, I don't care, because the body is going to make an excellent stress ball.
Great idea!! 🧦
I’ve been crocheting amigurumi for years, and the only time I had a problem was a Christmas gift for my granddaughter last year. I made a mermaid, and the hair made the head so heavy, it was flopping all over. I finally took the bamboo stick that came in the stuffing bag and shoved it down through the top of the head!
An amigurumi maker has to do whatever it takes to make it work! Love the ingenuity! 🧜♂️🧜♂️🧜♂️
Thank-you for a great video.
You're so welcome! 🦞❤️🧶
Great ideas
Thanks so much! ❤️🧶❤️🧶
Thank you for all of the great tips. Very valuable. Now I just have to start my first project 😂
