I feel that. I used to write. I'd write every day, stories and poems and letters. I won competitions and was told by teachers that I had a gift. I stopped loving writing after my parents read through and threw away most of my writing. The real kicker- my mom said to me once earlier in my life that she used to love writing too and gave it up after almost all of her writing journals were thrown away by her husband. She didn't care that she did the same thing to me and for years would ask me every so often about taking different jobs involving writing.
It takes a lot to break that cycle. I hope you can rekindle your love of writing, if not find another interest you're just as passionate about.

when I was in 6th grade social studies, we had to draw any random thing. I drew what I call a "massacre elf," which was an elf with a chainsaw and something else that i can't remember. My teacher thought it was funny. My parents... not so much.

The Butterfly story was hillarious
When I was a kid I enjoyed drawing these little bird characters in crayon, very cartoonish ones that acted human. I had one drawing that today would raise eyebrows for sure but had a logical explanation. When I was seven a maternal great-uncle passed away, and he was the first death that really affected me. I guess I coped with it by having one of my bird characters die and they hold a funeral. Well, I had never been to a funeral that I could remember at that point, and didn't know about wakes, so I displayed my dead bird in the only way I'd ever seen a dead body displayed. On a cross (yes I'm Catholic). It looks sacrilegious, but honest to God, it was just a seven-year-old trying to understand the world.
When I was in high school, I heard one of my former science teachers had some terrible life event happen. Can't remember if it was a breakup or a death of a family member or whatnot but I felt compelled to try and cheer her up. So I used the bunch of popsicle sticks my grandma stored for art purposes and made a wooden owl sculpture out of them for that teacher.
That last story feels like it's one of the reasons the "true art is nonsense" mold... and it's 100% true.

So due to some neurological issues, I got sent to a psychologist when I was a kid. He had me draw my family, and made a huge deal out of me drawing my older brother bigger than me and apparently insisted there was some deep meaning to it.
Why did I draw him bigger than me? Because he was taller than me!😂

When I was in kindergarden , my teacher pulled my mom aside to show her a picture I did. She was like "Hey, I think I know what's going on, but I need to ask you this. Would you please tell me what your daughter drew Here"? My mom looked at it and started laughing. It looked like I drew a bunch of dongs , and to be sure nothing inappropriate was going on at home my teacher needed to ask about it. But she knew from the start what this was supposed to be. So my mom said, while laughing "Well that's littlefoot for ya, from A land before time".
I wouldn't ever shut up about the movies in kindergarden, and since I told my teacher the same, both her and my mom had a good laugh about it.
9:56 the fact that we have (at least here in Peru) a version of the Barney Theme Song here at school that says that Barney lives under a bridge, smokes marijuana and injects himself with detergent (why detergent you ask? It rhymes with "bridge" in spanish!) makes this even funnier.

The “design a monster” story reminds me of a story of my own. Local movie theater had a contest to draw the scariest monster. I drew a man with a briefcase and labeled it “A Congressman.” I won.

Hearing some of these makes me very glad I always had a fair grip on my "social filter". I was always drawing. Always. Mostly in classes that had nothing to do with art (Algebra. it was Algebra). And largely at school I mostly drew my crap little amine OCs n' shit. But on rare occasions I drew from feelings in my life, and one in particular was....fairly dark, for me. Blanked out figures hanging in the background from ropes around their necks with my Father and step fathers initials carved into them, blood dripping from lifeless forms as my (then present) interpretation of myself held a knife behind her back grinning in that sort of deranged, big eyed anime way with the bloody lettering of "Happy fucking fathers day" across it.
My art teachers should just be glad all they got was Naruto fanart.

in school today we got to draw anyone we wanted (if they were human/humanoid) and one kid who i was sitting next to drew this cursed superman thing that i said looked like match from bfdi, and the worst part is that her gave it ABS. he did get rid of them though don't worry. we named it like superman-match-woman-creature or something like that.

i was the kid. in second grade i had a really nice teacher who handed me printed paper and some of her scented markers when i wasn't interested in what we were doing. well one day instead of drawing unfunny mario and pokemon jokes and stuff like that, i took heavy inspiration from a meme i saw the day before and drew it. problem was the meme had the word "r*pe" in it, so i was pulled into the office with my parents and i nearly had cps called on me.

So, in december of 2022, we were doing narrative work in english and one of the tasks was to draw a character of our own creation with some lore behind it. I drew a decent character that would work well as a main villain for a story, but the class control freak drew a generic alien based on a popular meme that was only local to my school, after he told the class, my english teacher got pissed, calling it crap and disappointing, he also said that the characters most of the class created were very lacklustre and uninspiring so, yeah

I remember once we were doing freestyle art, so I drew a beautiful katana. I've been drawing multiple weapons as my assignment because i didn't have anything else to do. Apparently my teacher didnt like it and decided to fail me.

so when the fruit bowl showed up, i did it in negative just to prove to her that black does indeed have a place in art class..
she failed me but when i reversed the image digitally it was perfect and the principal forced her to change my grade to an A+..

I accidentally did that to my art teacher, lol. Being the edgy little fiend I was, I drew something from that Edgar Allen Poe poem about the heart in the floorboards. I went to a hippie school, and was a good artist, so my teacher praised me, even though his face went as white as his beard. My writing wasn’t much happier, mostly about detective/murder mysteries.
Not really art, but when I was in middle school I chose to take a wood shop class.
For the final, you were to make a new blueprint that the shop didn't already have.
Some kids spent a long time on their finals.... I spent 2 minutes. I made chopsticks. I stuck a dowel in the pencil sharpener and scribbled it down on paper.
I spent the final week enjoying myself while I made puzzles, bird houses etc
If an Art Teacher find your works inappropriate so just create more of them!

My "do your own thing" drawings tended to veer into science fiction & fantasy! I did a stipple starship, a sun background to a quote, a skull & dripping dagger woodblock in college; & a metaphorical etched glass with newspaper headlines on the Earth & a serpent hugging a tree. That was in high school. Still not sure what I meant by that one!
Examples span between 1975 & 1981.
so we were doing abstracts with modeling clay in art class. make basic sgapes into what you want. teacher reminds us to keep it clean and this one guy sticks 3 balls on a cone and the teacher reams at him and hes like "no its got three see?" then he screams at me for laughing
I drew emu’s doing drugs like angle dust, crack, pot I still have it to this day. it made in yearbook by “accident”
My favorite art teacher made each of our assignments a "Do anything you want" kind of project.
We went through different styles, different techniques, all that kind of stuff but each major assignment was just to do whatever we wanted but in the style or medium or using the technique she assigned.
My favorite project was a self portrait and a separate portrait of Tanjiro from Demonslayer I did with glass painting. Our assignment that time was more focused on color theory, and I thought glass painting was the best medium for that.

When I was in elementary me and my best friend at that time joined our school's art club.. After our teacher taught us a technique about shading and lighting he made us draw whatever we wanted incorporating the technique he taught... My friend and I agreed to draw our favorite Gundam mech and character at that time so I drew the Mech while my friend drew the pilot of and it... My friend's art was so detailed that our teacher had it posted in our billboard for everyone to see so everytime someone walks pass it everyone would see it..
i have a similar thing. i made a music piece on my laptop for a school district art thing and well despite not putting much effort into it and kinda making it entirely in my class period, it won and i got 2 awards from it.
For the final art project this year, I was given full reign to do whatever I wanted. So I decided to make some cork prints, where you carve a design out of a block of cork, dip it in ink, and press it on paper in order to make a design. However, I struggled with the carving tool, and cut my hand numerous times. Because of that, I can now say that I've spend blood, sweat, and tears on my artwork.
And before you ask, yes, I did end up wearing gloves after the first four times I nicked myself.

I learned it was the stronger version of "slut," and that "slut" was merely rude but not obscene.
There is my fair share of art i dont wanna show people, but none of it was made in school. The most recent one, a drawing of a girl that looked angry, with a magenta hoodie with crosses on it covering her eyes, with a midnight-colored swirly shape, people-ish figures, and bloody scratches all around her. I'm NEVER showing that to people, and if anybody even saw ONE of the things I draw, GUESS WHO'S GONNA BE SENT TO THERAPY/MENTAL HOSPITAL YALL!!!

One time in elementary school my art teacher told us to do in pairs something about winter, so me and my friend built a concetration camp, when teacher asked us about it we explained that it's not a concetration camp, we built a place when homeless people can go to warm themselves with the heat from big oven, we made it just for fun, and we got 4 for it, 4 is like B in america
I was a sub for an art class once, I gave the kids a free draw period. Instead they decided to make paper airplanes mess with the teachers desk and so on. Some people actually drew, although one boy drew a women in an NSFW format. What has become of out schools my friends😔

I have minny art storys but one of the ones got got me into drawing more is my middle school art teacher. I was put into art becuse the music teacher had put me in the roung class and wanted me to sight read advanced music when I was still a bigger. (Still makes me angry to this day but whatever )
So when I got to the art class my art teacher seemed stricted and rude at first. But after we saw that I liked art and was trying. He helped me out a bit more giving me some tips and tricks that u use to this day

I mean... In the early 1900s and 1800s people weren't a vigilant about not having private anatomical collections.
A number of the biggest universities of the world were supplied with executed criminals, homeless who were found dead, poor people that couldn't pay for a burial etc. back in that time.
No one cared if a doctor took a skull or some interesting organ preserved in whatever liquid they used at the time home.
Parts of such private collections are still buried in attics, basements, school storages or people's shelves.
I don't know about the laws about such collections but I guess depending on the country authorities can't really do anything about it because the remains in question were acquired before current laws were established. On the other hand I've heard about heirs that went ahead and gave the skulls/preserved organs /whatever they found to the officials to be buried. On the other hand I've read about at least one case were one such skull was found in a dumpster. Police were called, people thought about murder... But it was just people throwing out the belongings of an old doctor that had died and had that thing in his basement. The people taskt with tossing stuff out though it was a plastic skull like the ones schools use nowadays.

I made a villain gallery with one class. The only requirements were that it can't be too gory and it needs to be a fictional villain. One boy wanted to draw Hitler. His reason was that he's super evil and is in a book and movies. I fully agreed with Hitler being the most evil man but we just can't put Hitler's portrait in school hallway and I don't want to become a media scandal on my 1st year of teaching.

How bout testing block story
So when this took place MacOS Big Sur was the most recent release and I wanted the wallpaper but didn’t want to just download it and I was bored and had Adobe illustrator on the school laptop(for art class reasons) I spent the next two hour manually recreati by the MacOS Big Sur wallpaper including making adjustments for the file size and eyeballing the colors from an image I had on my phone (saved at a different aspect ratio)

it was a normal day at my private disabled school (im onehanded, dont think im rich cause i aint) and it was a sunny day and it was the second break, everyone was playing frisbee and it got stuck on the roof, so my buddy jack (not his real name) had a idea of stacking 3 chairs together and using a long stick that was used for a project (i dont know what the usage was for it) and so i went "yo, i can get it for ya" which i said in german cause we are in germany, so we set the chairs up and it took a bit and almost falling off a few times, but we got it back down, also the teacher never noticed and she was right infront of me on her desk
tldn: a classmate had a stupid idea and i executed that stupid idea for a frisbee

As a student in hs, it was known by the school that I had home life issues since I started about 3mos late one year due to being in a group home. I triedmore nights than not to sleep at a friend's but always got to school. Other students told me that Ms. R was a b-tch, and tbf if you were disrupting class that woman could yell! But I found out that I had an awesome social studies teacher when told me that even though I got A and high Bs on tests, my lack of turned in homework assignments was going to cause me to fail and she said I was too smart for that. She said between the oil paint stained pants (my art class was right before this class) and she knew I spent class always drawing that if i handed in a drawing the next week of anything she taught that quarter, she'd count that as my homeworks so Id pass. She hung up my black micron pen and a little bit of a dk red pencil drawing of the diff social strata, with royalty at the top and working class(peasants) in the middle and the bottom half of diff methods of execution and torture in medieval england. To a troubled kid that disengaged because it was easier than being mocked or punished , Ms.Reisings acceptance of me and praise of my, at the time, dubious art skills and not making me explain about never wanting to go home meant the world. What is funny though is 20 years after My nephew told me she still had the reputation of being a b.tch, but he liked her well enough since she only yelled at the troublemakers who were disruptive. She was anything but a B in my eyes though.

I had a friend in school called Luke (common enough name so I’m okay sharing it). He was very good at art, but the thing he was best at drawing was dicks. Like, weirdly good. He would draw them in really weird ways. Like a person entirely made out of dicks. Dicks for legs, arms, hands, fingers, head, torso. Everything dicks. And whilst I don’t think he ever showed it in art class, to his friends and people just around he was so unapologetic about it. I’d just be in the library reading a book, see him drawing, go over to chat a bit with him and his friends and see him drawing a dick monster in great detail.
And I do think it’s a testament to be able to draw dicks but them to in no way seem sexual. They were just dicks.
I don’t know why he had this fascination with drawing dicks. He was always a little weird outside of that. But we (our friend group) were all a little weird. I haven’t really spoken to him in about 2 years. I hope he’s doing well.
He’s also the first person I ever heard use the term Asexual. Which was really helpful to me because I later realised I’m asexual. So thanks for that Luke.
