    I tailored the perfect summer shirt in my last video, and I wanted to pair it with a great pair of shorts. Looked around and couldn't find any, so I decided to use the chinos that I already had that I tailored to fit perfectly. Next thing I knew I had the PERFECT fitting summer DIY shorts! Boom!

    Great tutorial man! Your channel has been a HUGE help! Literally makes life a little easier. I don't want to say I grew up poor because we had food and a roof. But it was hand-me-downs, thrift store, Goodwill, etc. So even today at 37 I still have that gut feeling of guilt throwing stuff out that can be fixed or cycled into something elaw.

    Well done, normally I would double the seam allowance for the hem and double-fold to create a finished hem. However, since your pants are so fitted it probably looks a lot better with less bulk from your single fold. It's not like your going around flashing the inside of your hem anyway.

  • @johnnasta
    @johnnasta Před rokem +1

    You can use a rotary cutter and a good metal straight edge. If you want a 1" hem you have to leave 2" of extra fabric at the bottom so you can roll it twice and not end up with a raw edge the way you did. At 3:05 when you look at the underside you can see that there isn't a raw edge exposed.

    Life hack: use whatever scissors you have laying around to simply cut the legs off your fav pair of chinos or jeans. No need to hem or finish the cut... it will begin to fray almost immediately and give you that cool stringy look. Throw on a pair of white socks and tennis shoes, and you are ready to start turning heads!

    I just did this to a pair of Mavi chinos that twisted from the knee down. Also have started to go to second hand stores and search for pants that I think would look great as shorts.

    If you measured up 1" and folded it to the 1" mark, you acutely halved it and now it's 1/2" hem, not the 1" hem intended for copying the previous pant ends.

    • @StylishDTailors
      @StylishDTailors  Před 4 lety +1

      Must have mispoke but yes measure 1" and fold. Should still be 1".

    • @theveracious
      @theveracious Před 4 lety

      @@StylishDTailors yeah dude, didn't mean to nag. If you measure 1" and fold and the measured mark in the valley of the fold and not at the edge of the folded fabric, the hem would be an inch. Normally I would measure 2"up and butt the edge of the fabric to my mark so I'm not having to fold with the measurement mark in the valley of the fold

    Would it be better to add two inches so you can roll it up twice so you don’t see the little threads coming out from the cut

    • @StylishDTailors

      The threads aren't visible at all, and I ended up giving them a good trim anyway. But you can do that yes.

      When I make shorts like this I'm also doing only one fold, because a double fold is too bulky at tight sitting shorts. But I make a fake overlock stich at the edge before folding and sewing.
