  • Deserts cover a vast area of our continents and they usually form over regions with specific geographic characteristics. Do you know where deserts form and why?
The common geographic locations where major deserts are formed are: between 15˚ and 30˚ North and south of the equator; in the interior of continents; and in rain shadows of large mountain belts.

Excellent utilization of modern media. Suggestion: A presentation on the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis of 12,800 years ago. This has rapidly become the hottest topic in Earth science and anthropology. Antonio Zamora has good videos of this topic.

One question, on Hadley cell explanation, the air is hot near equator thus allows more evaporation and creating moist air which in turn creates rain while moving outward towards the pole. Doesn't this mean that the equator has more evaporation than precipitation especially in internal of continent such as republic of congo. Thank you

    • @marieauroreniyitangamanzi3845

Those regions are influenced by a cold ocean current within the high pressure belt and the Andes Mountains blocking any Atlantic moisture from making it to the west coast. Some places are so dry that they very rarely receive any precipitation. The Atacama Desert in Chile is a classic example.
