Oh Blair! You tried and that's all that matters! Some pointers for future baking.... spray oil like avocado, coconut, olive or even Pam your baking vessels - or use butter (spread with a paper towel) grease that pan - it needs a good lube to make sure things don't stick. And use the yellow lemons, not the green (lime). Whipped cream can be a good substitute for icing, its not as sweet. But I will honestly say, I'm super impressed with your baking skills! Get it fellow Sagittarius!
And don't open the oven until the cake has been baking for at least 2/3 of the estimated time. Preferrably don't open it at all before the cake is done.
This cake mix held up pretty well but in general, cakes do not like that, they will deflate.

Professional baker. That store bought icing is the *worst* to ice a cake with. Or to pipe with. (Technique-wise, it has such a strange texture.) Props. 😂

If you put the store bought icing in a bowl and beat it with a mixer it doubles in size and makes it fluffier🥰

Blair, I always use half the amou t of sugar or even only 1/3 than on the recipes. bc it is always way too sweet. Maybe you can try it next time.

That cake was fantastic...it's never like ' the professional '. Does it...(. Sprayed ..shined...painted...etc). We all learn.. ,side note...I'd never show my kids what the cooking was actually Meant to look like...😂😇👍
Just use cooking oil spray for the pans. I do this with anything I'm putting in the oven. For cakes I cut a circle of Parchment paper and put it in the pan then spray the inside of the pan before putting batter in. This helps the cake just slip right out!
