- Molly Nilsson "1995"
Song taken from the album Zenith. Out September 25th 2015 on Dark Skies Association and Night School Records. Video by Chris Filippini and Molly Nilsson.
Saxophone by Katja Navarra. Lyrics:
Windows 95, you're long gone but I'm still alive
I've gone so far, not even knowing how
I suppose the world is so much smaller now
The plans that you made,
when you still had the time
I've saved all the things
that you left behind
but by now I guess I'd consider them all mine
Windows 95,
is only a metaphor for what I feel inside
Although I'm older now,
there's still an emptiness
that's never letting go somehow
Have you ever walked into what seemed,
to be somebody else's dream?
And though the time won't let you pass,
it keeps you looking through the glass
1995,
they call the year the future was to arrive
But back in '95
we thought we were standing on the threshold
to the end of time
(And we still do)
So what's wrong with living in the past?
It just happens to be the place I saw you last
And what's wrong with living in a dream?
That one day the echo answers,
deep inside of me
I'll remember 1995
I'll remember 1995

I’m sitting here in the future listening to this in 2024. I Brought 1995 with me because it’s the best year ever 👊🏻
It was dec3nt as far as social engineering and numerology goes
Holy shit, I'm five years late to my favorite song.
me too. I remember 1995 and 2015
So many people still haven't even heard Molly's name..but that kinda makes this club bit exclusive..I like that
Ahh me too.
The most beautiful thing I encountered during da 'vid lol. I can't remember exactly how it happened! I somehow encountered "I Hope You Die", which is also a lovely track... This just... Came across me💖 (yeah, phrasing lol). It's still my favorite song. Ever💖💕😄
1995, I was 15 years old and hopeful. I miss those friends from back there.
So what's wrong with living in the past?
It just happens to be the place I saw you last.
literally just burst into tears at this
Dyllan Shoemake are you okay now?
9
that part murders me
cringe
"so whats wrong with living with the past? it just happen to be the place i saw you last" is the kind of line you hear and your ground falls
Q_Q
yeah
Got me good ther 😞
Wonderful 🖤 I adore this gal 🖤
this song never gets old
This is possibly... My most favorite song ever 💖💕
This is one of “those” special songs that happen ever so often. Beautiful and striking. I was 20 in 1995. This song kills me.
I vary bad understand and speak english, i born in 1995))
17
you mad?
I was 14.
Definitely "kills". Melodically (for me), it gives me feelings of leaving behind all that pains me and looking & moving forward towards the positivity of the unknown, unforeseen, and endless possibilities, and I can feel the barbs & hooks of past negative life experiences ripping out of me (this brings mild tears) as I continue moving forward. It's bittersweet and comforting. I was a little younger in 1995, myself (high school junior).
Lost my mom to cancer in the summer of 1995, when I was 5.
Never has a song personally resonated this much.
I'll remember 1995 🖤
I wish I could back there. (I didn't think that at the time).
"windows 95 is only a metaphor for what i feel inside" is the greatest line of 2015
And 2016
And 2017.
Greetings to you, Night Shade.
And 2783. I just popped in from the future \(^.^)/
and 2018
I graduated from high school in 95. It's only now, so many years later, that I realize how great it was growing up in the 90's. This such an awesome song.
Yes! Omg 1995 too and i just listened to this song , feels so special ty
"I saved all the things
That you left behind
But by now I guess I'd consider them all mine" god damn I start to tear up every time I hear it
She truly reclaims the essence of pop!
"what's wrong with living in the past? it happens to be the time I saw you last" ♥️👼🏼
1995 the year i was born ... nice song . molly nilsson so unique ...
She is sooo beautiful
I heard this song last night for the first time, it was a dj choice before Slowdive came on stage. It’s my new favourite song.
Beautiful song and artist
I must listen to Molly 7 nights a week.
Walked into zion with molly, we peaced in like two seconds... actual angel
This song makes me cry every damn time
Was already addicted to "i hope you die" now this is 1+ gem for me to keep on repeat, such an amazing artist!
Her eyes are insane. Also, I like how she makes her voice like this, a lot of artists attempt a sort of nostalgic distortion as part of some trend but usually sound pretty terrible. Molly does something really cool with it however.
Dandy Andy clearly haven't found better music which isn't hard to do when you're given this
That's what Ariel Pink does as well. They are both fantastic.
ikr, her signing voice has a sort of 50's/60's style to it... except its more modern (the music that is).
John Maus also has some great music, same thing with Ariel Pink
@@MonoChorMe her voice reminds me of Nico, so...yeah.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that at 3:31 Molly sings out of beat and she still kept it in the video. That's a slice of warm humanity cutting through the cool melancholy of this song and it adds something special to it.
She has a little chuckle 😊😎
The song is melancholy?
@@danplocinski9273 Yes
that's remarkable
Started watching Lebanon Hanover videos and ended up here. I’m happy about this.
She's Great
Jhosselynne McCold she stinks, check out mary ocher & Sally dige
It's a magical voice and look.
Sooo beautiful. And unique...
i was 18 in 1995, I started college and my grandmother, a classmate and then my father died.
Crazy how the detached grace of her voice makes me feel warm and nostalgic. Top shelf lyrics and phrasing too, girl knows how to write a hook that crushes.
A nostalgic introspection.
When a pair of blues can pierced through the soul
A blend of soothing and hauntingly melody to cradle the worries away
Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own.
CAn't stop watching
Perfect for the beggining of 2021
If you've just discovered this song..then I'm so happy for you..do listen to Molly's other stuff, they are all great
@@dd1278 I discover her erlier but sometimes I forgot for a while and then go back again and again
Absolutely love this in early 2021
The song is so awesome.
It's been 20 years since 1995, time goes so fast.
My birth year =)
25 Years ago Windows 95 debuted
Close your Eyes - Open your Mind 💓
We thought we were standing on the precipice to the end of time…and still do.
1995, right a year before I was born. Those were real good times.
If u was born in 96 then ok u missed a little bit of our golden era.... But molly nillson is there to remind u.. 😎☝️
@@paulcarney7748 i meant that I dont like to exist hah so by that time, when I didn't exist, it was cool. Nowadays we have access to that material tho, so I didn't actually _miss it_ ✨
OmG she's sooo beautiful ❤️ that last shot when the backdrop is pitch black and her pop of blonde hair , piercing blue eyes with a pop of red lipstick 💄 geeesh
What a good year to be born
Linda demais ♡
really was a great year
It was.

❤
Sweet nostalgia
It’s like she encapsulated 1995 in a song. Such nostalgia. Such brilliance ❤
miss you windows 95

She's a great lyricist.
these are some of the best lyrics i've ever heard...
Most inspiring musician I've encountered in quite SOME TIME
I cry every single time I hear this yet it brings me so much comfort too. Thank you so much, this is one of my favourite songs of all time. 🖤
I miss the 90s very deeply. I was 6 years old and in Kindergarten in 1995. Those were the best times ever. Now I'm going on 28. If I could turn back time, I'd go back to 1995.
Ray Roark you should take time to do something 6 year old you would want you to do as an adult
@@nolimit6377 Yes! The light of that inner child is still with you, so make him happy. Better than feeding your dark side with negative stimuli at least.
I was 10 and it was the best year of my life.
I miss the 90s so much.
@@nolimit6377
It isn't just about recapturing lost youth.
The 90s were better in so many ways, especially compared to now.
No social media, good music.
And people weren't such narcissistic posers.
People actually did stuff, not just pretend to do things to take photos for instagram.
Cassettes and videos, toys, cartoons etc.
Was the last decent decade...
Song of the year. Definitely a favourite.
I wasn't ready for these feels.
How could you 🐝? This is the real deal.
The best year of my life, I was 21, I traveled around Europe with my friends, they were carefree years, lived intensely, for better or for worse..
Beautiful song and beautiful Molly ♥
"Windows95 i still a metaphor for what i feel inside" is still the greatest line 2021.
Lovely
What a gem
She's one of the greats
And now I now, why I am still living in the past.
1995 was great
GOSH SHES BEAUTIFUL AND HER MUSIC SOUNDS AMAZING
Finally a saxophone in a pop song.
This has to be played on the Minidisc player of my 1995 RX7 :D
rx7? you mean nippon BRAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPP MACHINE?
Quick! Call Techmoan and he'll organize everything, heheh :D
I was just looking for a song from the year I was born. Im not disappointed. 😮😊
At the start of the video we see a gravestone. So sad 'cause you know someone had to die for this beautiful song to live.
Yep, her mommy.
Also symbolic that this year has passed. It is over. The numerical distinction is no longer valid... ouch😑
"Someone had to die for this beautiful song to live"
Well put.
this is the happiest sad song ive heard!
found this song when it only had like 2k views lol I'm so happy it's in the millions as of now
This nostalgia, this is what I need
1995 good year to be born
Nostalgia is dangerous and that is why I like it - live dangerous - nostalgic and romantic - omg so many pomo-ists triggered? But I remember 1995 - I remember analog world, omg what have we done ;)
I like that the little mistake wasn't cut, very endearing :)
which mistake?
Wait, you mean at 3.40?
+Alice Needham More like 3:31 . I wouldn't dare to claim it was made on purpose if you notice her slightly embarrased smile that must have been quite a natural reaction to what had happened.
I agree. Most artists and producers would've said DO IT AGAIN! I'm glad they kept it. It adds a little humbleness to an already great song.
Oh god you are so right!
I love the sound!
i'm from 1981
I love her swedish looks! her eyes are amazinggggg and i also like her voice, the music sounds like the 80's
FranSunset very 80s sound yes. Excellent sound
Especially with that sax solo ending. So 80's!
balablabla, you're wrong kids, this has not much to do with 80s sound...pretty nothing..
@@playlistener1 I also don't know why they say this sounds 80s. It sounds eerie, modern, dynamic and rustic all at once. So 2010s
te amo Molly
Had the pleasure of seeing her live in the equivalent of a VFW bar. She was positively amazing
should be an actress, she's amazing. so talented, touches one's soul.
95, when the worst thing that happened to me was dropping my Digimon in the toilet.
didn't that come out a couple of years later?
@@sonial1839 yup in 1999. Was a good year. Will never forget that opening song.
you think thats bad? i dropped my galaxy bud pro 2 into a packet of bbq sauce
She had me at "Windows 95..."
Nobody can compete with a long dead lover, Jon you've been gone 19 years now,I regret turning you away through my pride and because of my mistake I destroyed my own life.
1995 is my favorite year of my life
I saw her live in spring of 2019 when I was going through a lot of positive changes. Seeing her was so much fun. It was such an experience to bop along to this song. I will remember that moment. So pleasant to find myself in that space. Maybe it helped cement some of the quiet joy I was experiencing.
I hope I can experience that some time. Going through a lot of negative changes and need something positive!
@@gesuyarou663 Yes I hope so! Best wishes to you :)
Nádherné❤
i was today years old when this song killed me dead with its power
wow, I'm late at this party but this is so amazing!!
brilliant song - she has so many great song though, quite underrated!
this song is beyond words, amazing, contains so much emotion, makes me feel a great joy but also a familiar sadness I feel that I can truly relate to
Stitchlip76 2020 hi
Ive listened to this about 1000000 times
This song destroys me and puts me back together again in the same instant. Words can't express how much this resonates with my fragile, communication-age soul.
Amazing music. I've listen some 100 times between yesterday and today :)
I'm usually not a lyrics person but dadgum does this one get to me. Maybe it's cause 1995 was a bit of a tumultuous year in my own childhood. Maybe it's all of the home movies playing in the background ending with the graveside shot - powerful song, bravo.
Alucinante
This would 100% be on 120 Minutes.
I'm feeling the scar on my right ring finger that I cut in the spring 1995. It was a small cut from a broken glass while washing dishes, but the scar is very visible. "I remember 1995." Goosebumps.
Beautiful.

Anybody here 2023?
no
Yup
I’ll be here forever
Yaaaaaaaas
Yup
She has an unusual way of making unusual songs sound amazing.
Molly Nilsson... You are just awesome for me ... Thank you soooo much for your music...!
I saw her in Warsaw a couple months back and no words can describe the excitement I felt
