Might be good to play them with a track too, I personally like the sound of the first better but in a mix the second probably sounds better bc it may not get as lost, imo.
I guess the first is a Squier Jazz Bass, the second is iconic and I think everybody knows it. Both of them sound amazing. And nowadays it's easily possible to "emulate" the sound of Rickenbacker using effects and some adjustments on the height of the strings. Cool riff, man!
The only thing i see different is the second one sounds brighter and cleaner. What pickup are u using? What amp? ThY has a LOT to do with it. I have a Ibanez GIO thats sounds better than that the super expensive one. Way cleaner.. Beauty is definitely in the eye of the beholder. Old expensive basses sounds are massed produced these days, for cheap.
Even "cheap" new Fender basses are expensive these days. It still sounds like a jazz bass. And old Rickenbackers still sound thin and farty unless you're really willing to twiddle dials to really zero in on a fatter tone. I wouldn't own either.
I think the "musical world" is the only place where people think that the older models are superior. You can also spend the same amount of money as the vintage Ric, on a new bass from a master builder and have a totally superior instrument.
They each sound lovely in their own way
The tone on the old bass…awesome!
The rickenbacker sounds great
Comparing a Rick to a Fender Jazz of any price point is silly. You proved what we've known a long time. Those two basses don't sound alike. Good job.
Thinking of You, classic Bernard Edwards line
This riff sounds great, is it from a particular song?
Thinking of You - Sister Sledge (Nile Rogers guitar, Bernard Edwards bass) Should be more staccato, less slidey on the bass part than here.
First one just sounds better.
Do you understand tone and timbre?
@@ku______ Do you understand that any jazz bass will sound better than a thuddy muddy rick or p bass? Go be rude to somebody that doesn't play.
@nonombre7159 how wrong is the world we live in today when asking a question implies rudness. I'm too old.
I also prefer the warm beds of the jazz bass. Never been a fan of funky twangy bass.
haha that’s just because everyone is on defense nowadays. you did nothing wrong (:

Both sound and look lovely.
I ❤ the Rickenbacker
Show the stock, foo
Full review of the rickenbacker coming soon "foo" :) Cheers! - Sam
Where they recorded on the same level? , the jump on the "noise floor" had me like😮
Great feedback, both instruments recorded as DI into a scarlet 18i24 with the same gain levels. Two very different instruments! Cheers! - Sam

Rickenbackers sound thin? Tell that to McCartney....
@@riogrande163 He's no exception. He made the best of it. But late period Beatles bass tone never struck me as something to emulate.
I actually just played a vintage 4001 in a shop the other week. It was lightweight, which was nice. But the tone just didn't impress me at all.
Any fender over any Ric anyday unless it’s a heavy fuzz
looks like a jaguar fender
What model bass is the first one and cost and good playing
squier classic vibe 70s jazz bass?
Rickembecker good
Jazz any day
The Squier sounds much better.
Glad you enjoyed the sound! Cheers! - Sam
Scott pilgrim bass (old one)

Amen. I started playing in 1973 and both Fender and Gibson made plenty of "dogs" back then too.
The neck of the first bass need to fixed seems like the angle is off . the cheap one fail miserably to look old and expensive . 😂
Fender is cheap???
How’d you get a Ricky to sound nothing like a Ricky?
By playing it like a pro ;)
Bro I thought he is Aviram Fr.
Two different basses... one is a jazz bass and the other is a rickenbacker.
Wooow tocas increíble la guitarra amigo
That’s a bass not a guitar
Bro looks like jaco
