    Oh I really like this! Although I don't feel like I can judge voices in a language I don't speak, it's fun to watch.

  • @thekoreandisneyprincess5958

    I've already knew Emmylou would 1st place!
    French voices are so beautiful, The background of many films are France;
    Cinderella, Aurora, Belle and Esmeralda's native languages are French!
    For me old voices are low and I really love high places...♥♥
    And what about some Heroines? I'll wait!

    French speaking voices, I guess, they suffer of the same thing the Italian ones do: sometimes you can hear the difference between a voice actress and an actress who dubbs for the first time. As for the second one, sometimes the result can be excellent like Maéva's, less perfect but still enjoyable as is the case of Bénédicte or a total disaster like the one for Merida. We have the same problem in Italy: dubbing is so different from acting that it's really hard to find a person who is able to do do both convincingly. I sincerely love every voice here, with the exception of the last 4. As for bénédicte lécroart, sometimes her acting is really stiff but there are many moments in which she shines and moves me, especially when she tells the beast she loves him

    Amazing!!! Voice acting is a job that I do in my native language and it's NOT easy. A nice and strong voice is not what it all takes, you need to put yourself at the same position with the character you give your voice. If you are really good at it, you become the character and start to doing the exact same thing with your body and copying the character. So, it takes lots of work. You have to feel the emotion and be wherever the character is. Tbh I agree with you with all of the voices, French is a language that I've always wanted learn but all I could do was watching things in French with English or Turkish subtitles...

    A really special editing for a really special video! I always love your editing, neat and elegant, but this time you've surpassed yourself with this amazing design.
    I find judging speaking voices, when you're not a native speaker, really difficult, so I don't have exactly a formed opinion on any of them. Your comments, however, clear and well-structured, made me appreciate more the acting of these ladies, and made me follow your thinking line. I could totally understand your point and feelings towards them, and that's someone few can manage to do, while providing, at the same time, a really interesting and entertaining video.
    I've always liked Cerise, Emmylou and Anaïs, so I'm glad to see them in a high place. Having watched Mulan and Hercules in French, I have a soft spot for Valerie and Mimi, but I share your opinion about them.

    Where do people find their inspiration for these video designs?? This looks so pretty. I have been meaning to make a ranking of Finnish speaking voices too but I will be forever stuck on the fact that I have no imagination for the editing lol
    Anyway, a big big big YES on Anais, in terms of both singing & speaking she's my favourite Elsa overall, and I agree everything you said about her!! I also agree so much on Cerise, her speaking as Vaiana is just soso good (as well as her singing).
    I also really hate it when a voice gets so overused you just hear nothing but the voice, that's something that's happened with a few Finnish dubbers to me and it sucks massively. For example I know our Mother Gothel is good but I hear her voice everywhere so I can't enjoy her there D:
    Anyway, France seems to be very good at casting when it comes to speaking. Most of them sounded really good to my Finnish ears :D
    I am so glad to see that you were critical all the way and you didn't sugarcoat your opinion. That way your favourites stand out so much better since you didn't call your #20 choice perfect or something :P
    Interesting video!! I hope I will manage to get my rank on the Finnish speaking voices out sometime soon...

    Such a beautiful video, the design looks so good! Speaking ranks are always refreshing and interesting to see, and this one is certainly is as well.
    After hearing "tante" three times in a row in that clip of Aurora, I wish they had used that title for the fairies in the Arabic dub x) We use it in daily life to address women who are unrelated, blood-wise, and that's like perfect in Aurora's case lol. I can't entirely judge these voices of course, but the majority sounded really good and involved in the roles! I love Jasmine's! Judging by those scenes of Rapunzel, Maeva's voice still doesn't sound naturally young and cute to me, much like in the singing parts. I gotta agree on Alexia sounding so natural on Lily James's face; I can't remember what Lily's voice is like, so I can easily believe that this is her voice! Top 5 all sounded so so great in my ears! I'm already familiar with the Frozen sisters in the speaking parts, and they're amazing indeed. I wish you had included Jane from Tarzan, but I get why she's not here :P
    I really like how you justified the placements of each actress. I have no idea how I'd comment on speaking parts in a rank; seems a bit challenging >< Anyway, really great video; it's given me good boost to tackle down my half-unfinished list of Arabic speaking voices which has been sitting there for months now x)

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety +2

      Haha, doesn't Aurora say aunt in English? I actually never saw the movie in English (I don't like Eleanor on Maleficent T-T). We actually use tante in quite the same way, though it means aunt of course, but we can say "tante" to someone who's not your parent but took care of you.
      Oh really? Yet that's Maeva's natural voice lol ^^'
      Actually, I didn't think at all of Jane, or Kida or Eilonwy lol. It just didn't cross my mind at all. Plus, I love Jane's French voice, she's very peculiar and got so well with Jane's refined and English look.

    Que je suis content de voir cette vidéo ! :-) On a trop souvent tendance à négliger les voix parlées car elles sont moins emblématiques que les chansons mais, quand on est devant le film, elles ont une importance capitale !
    Comme d'habitude, je comprends tes commentaires (et, au passage, je les trouve souvent fondés) mais j'ai bien sûr mes propres préférences qui, pour le coup, divergent pas mal, je dois le reconnaître... ^^'
    Je suis déjà assez d'accord pour ce qui est des anciens doublages, très surjoués. L seule qui tire son épingle du jeu selon moi est Irène Valois. Je ne sais pas, elle a l'air d'être dans la lune ce qui, je trouve, sied plutôt bien à Aurore...
    Concernant Bénédicte Lécroart et Dominique Poulain, ça me peine de l'avouer, mais je trouve que tu as raison quant à leur talent d'actrice... Après, leurs voix respectives transpirent à elles seules certains traits de caractère de Belle (sophistication, élégance) ou Cendrillon (douceur) donc, à titre personnel, je les aurais probablement placées plus haut quand même (je suis peut-être simplement trop conditionné par mon enfance mais bon)... ^^'
    Tu t'en doutes, je vais aussi défendre Claire dans le doublage de 1990 ! :-p Honnêtement, je trouve qu'elle a déjà une grande compétence de comédienne, et sa voix me semble tout à fait naturelle dans ce doublage-ci même si je suis d'accord pour dire qu'elle fait sans doute trop mature pour une ado de 16 ans. Mais un peu plus de maturité à Ariel ne lui fait pas de mal ; je dis souvent qu'Ariel n'aurait pas été une de mes princesses Disney préférée s'il n'y avait pas eu Claire pour l'incarner et lui donner cette maturité et cette profondeur/complexité que presque toutes les autres n'ont pas et pour lesquelles je comprends l'image de fille à papa pourrie gâtée qu'on prête souvent à Ariel. Dans le doublage de 99, elle force trop pour paraître plus jeune ; c'est là qu'elle ne me semble pas naturelle ! Mais là encore, certainement question d'habitude ! ^^ Et pour ce qui est de dire qu'elle est partout, c'est parce que c'est l'une des doubleuses les plus talentueuses et, pour moi, elle sera toujours Ariel, la Bonne Fée de Shrek et Susan de Desperate Housewives ; j'arrive à la cantonner à ces 3 grands rôles !
    Je suis un peu triste pour Valérie Karsenti, je trouve qu'elle donne beaucoup de profondeur à Mulan même si je regrette qu'elle ne s'accorde pas très bien avec Marie Galey pour le chant... À moins que ça ne soit l'inverse ? :-p Le duo avec Bénédicte Lécroart pour Juliette est plus naturel.
    Je ne supporte pas Valérie Siclay comme Blanche-Neige, je la trouve vraiment excessivement niaise... >_<
    Voilà, très très long commentaire pour exprimer et expliquer mes quelques divergences personnelles, mais j'adhère sur tout le reste et c'est quand même la plus grosse partie ! ;-) Mentions spéciales pour Mathilda May, Rebecca Dreyfus et Céline Monsarrat !

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety

      Haha l'enfance joue beaucoup, c'est important de le reconnaître. Il n'y a aucun mal à ça cependant, sauf les gens qui croient que les doublages de leur enfance sont meilleurs et que c'est une vérité fondamentale --'
      Oh oui la voix de Claire est naturelle dans le premier ça c'est sûr, elle fait bcp plus jeune naturellement et ça rend plus frais. Je ne la trouve pas trop vieille du tout pour les parties parlées, c'est vraiment son jeu, et sa façon d'étirer les phrases pour matcher la bouche et le rythme qui me dérange, je ne trouve pas ça naturelle ou convaincant du tout :/
      Je suis d'accord pour le côté fille gâtée c'est mieux les voix plus matures et posées, mnt je ne trouve pas que Claire incarne ça haha, j'irais plus du côté de Beata et Valgedur, et ce qui en sort au final, c'est que, dans les deux doublages de Claire, finalement j'aurais préféré une autre voix, parce que je ne peux absolument plus l'associer à Ariel, j'entends Claire seulement, même bonne actrice, mais Claire, et je ne peux pas dire qu'aujourd'hui je suis fier de la voix française d'Ariel :/
      Alors du coup pour me récapituler pck j'ai l'impression que tu ne m'as pas compris : 1989: voix naturelle/jeu pas naturel. 1998: voix normale (non, je ne la trouve pas plus forcée que ça, mais moi je n'ai pas grandi avec ces doublages donc je n'ai pas la VF 1989 ancrée profondément dans mon esprit. / jeu naturel.
      Moui enfin être talentueux ne veut pas dire qu'on est bon partout, parce du coup dans TLM et Buffy, je n'aime pas du tout Claire, je ne pense pas qu'elle ait vraiment compris Ariel (soit trop distante, soit trop fille lambda) et elle n'a pas du tout la subtilité de Sarah Michelle Gellar. Mnt, elle reste excellente sur Teri Hatcher et dans Shrek, je suis d'accord.
      Comme Mulan ne chante et parle pas à la suite, la différence ne m'a jamais choqué personnellement.
      Mdr laisse moi deviner, tu as grandis avec Lucie Dolène ? x) je ne juge pas du tout haha, ça m'intrigue juste ce rejet qu'on les français pour les doublages qu'ils n'ont pas connus (quand ça concerne les films qui leur tienne à cœur).

    • @samoyede0208
      @samoyede0208 Před 5 lety

      Ah, en effet, je n'avais pas compris tes commentaires sur les 2 doublages de la Petite Sirène de cette façon ! ^^' Et je peux comprendre ton point de vue, maintenant ! ;-) C'est intéressant quand tu dis penser que Claire n'ait pas compris Ariel parce que je peux aussi le concevoir même si, de mon côté, je considère qu'elle s'est justement approprié le personnage pour lui donner sa propre dimension. Pour le coup, il n'y a que Claire qui peut savoir ça ! ^^ (Au passage, je ne la trouve pas très bonne dans Buffy non plus...)
      XD Alors, oui, j'ai grandi avec Lucie Dolène mais, contrairement à ce que tu peux penser, je préfère maintenant Rachel Pignot (même si je reconnais que ça m'a pris du temps ^^'). En revanche, la nouvelle voix parlée, ça ne passe pas du tout, peu importe à quel point j'essaye de me familiariser avec ! En fait, le doublage de 1962 a simplement beaucoup vieilli ; je n'ai jamais tout compris quand Lucie Dolène chante ou parle... Et puis, comme tu l'as souligné, elle est tellement meilleure et mémorable en Mme. Samovar ou Impératrice Marie ! ;-)

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety

      Dans ce cas c'est ma faute j'avais mal expliqué.
      Je pense en effet que Claire est juste rester elle-même en doublant le personnage, ce qui n'est pas mal en soi, mais je ne vois que Claire du coup. Et aujourd'hui ça ne me suffit plus et je ne l'apprécie plus :(
      Pour ma part je trouve Valérie "normale", je comprenne qu'elle ne soit pas une préférée pour certain, mais je ne vois pas en quoi elle peut être détestable en fait, elle est lambda quoi

      Ce n'est pas forcément que tu as mal expliqué ; tu sais, quand je viens sur CZcams, c'est surtout pour me détendre et mon cerveau n'est pas toujours au taquet... XD
      C'est étrange, pour Valérie, car je trouve qu'elle a trop voulu faire passer Blanche-Neige pour une enfant (ce qu'elle est, au demeurant, donc c'est quelque part légitime), mais l'impression qui m'en reste est celle d'une nunuche... Pardon Valérie ! ^^'

I can't say much for the very old dubs as their quality is extremely poor unfortunately, but yeah, stays a different time & quality (in terms of acting ofc). Dominique sounds an angel to me from all clips I have heard tbh, but still haven't seen the full movie in French, so yeah, no judge heheh. Claire's improvement sounds really great, for some reason I expected to see the redub much higher x) W O W for China's difference, she still has this rough tone, but she completely got rid of that showing off syndrome she has in her singing, hence she sounds much more believable & neat. *Maeva the angel

I agree nearly everywhere though.... especially Maeva who truly IS Rapunzel, her acting even to a non French like me sounds very natural. I'd probably only keep Cerise lower, she comes off similarly theatrical and loud to me as Berenice.......although to a French speaker it may be a different experience.

    Without exaggerating, I have to say that your country does amazingly well in dubbing. Like, I'm not sure if the voices always fit the characters but damn, their performances are top-notch in embodiment and emotions! I agree with your last place, although I can't deny that vintage touch that looks so fitting with Cinderella (as well as with Aurora and Snow White). Btw, it seems to me from your rankings that you're not fond of the old dubs of Disney so bottom 3 didn't come as a surprise. Benedicte's placement kinda saddened me because I love her singing but it's true she's not the best actress (still good), but she fits Belle very well so I think I'd put her higher. As for Claire, well, she sounds better voice-wise in 1990 but better acting-wise in 1998. And WOW, China, Anais and Cerise don't captivate me with their singing but their acting is just super!!!! Maeva and Emmylou are just as great as they are in singing but in both cases they are not 100% fitting but definitely 100% natural so I still love the result

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety +1

      Well unfortunately, as the beginning of dubbings, it was often given singers and actors just for the fame and the talent of their career, but those people didn't get the embodiment... they just act as they would act in their own jobs. So yeah, often not a fan.
      "Voice/face-fitting" as you might know is not something I cared about.
      Thank you!

    • @thebiggestdisneyfan7819
      @thebiggestdisneyfan7819 Před 5 lety +1

      Well, on most cases yes, but there are some exceptions on these old dubs (I personally find Tatjana Angelini and Diana Castillo such examples).
      I know that you don't care about the fitting but about what each singer/actor brings to the character (definitely saw it in so many rankings hehe :D) the fitting thing was my own personal opinion (although in my opinion fitting the original actor is more important in live-action movies because if it is like 0% it can be distracting imo, but Cinderella and Belle here are very good on that aspect!)

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety +1

      I actually agree! Of course there are exceptions, and like, in English, all old voices are excellent, because directed as such.
      But Italy and France for example for Snow White casted like opera singer just because it was the style of the moment and I feel it could have been any opera singer it'd be the same for them anyway.
      Yeah, I don't believe only one kind of voice can "fit" with a character's face, it's the embodiment, energy and interpretation that makes it suiting or not; however I agree the voice/face fitting is more important in live-actions. But I've seen that voices very different from the original actor/actress can actually sounds very genuine on the actor/actress thanks to the embodiment and if they've got the energy and essence right.

    • @thebiggestdisneyfan7819
      @thebiggestdisneyfan7819 Před 5 lety +1

      I agree about what you said in regards with opera singers but I think there is a limit. If it could be any opera singer, this includes heavy, deep opera voices that would approach Snow White even more as an opera play than a character, and when thinking this, I am sort of glad we actually got Beatrice and Lina because they are not THAT deep (although still completely wrong).
      About fitting, I think the age gap between voice actor and character plays a major role. E.g. I am Greek and while I LOVE Sia's performance as Elsa I can't overlook the fact that she was much older than Elsa, and that's why I think she sounds bettero for Mama Imelda (if a Greek worshiper of Sia sees the comment, it is initial report but anyway xD) and more than one kind of voices can fit a character but the age is very specific which is the reason I find some voices really unsuitable (e.g. Thalia's Anastasia)

    • @charguigou
      @charguigou  Před 5 lety +1

      Well yeah of course it could have been worse (like it could have been better), I just meant they took a random opera singer to do the job without thinking of the character much I believe.
      Oh, I totally agree about the age thing. But this is not what I mean in the voice/face fitting. Many people judge the voice timber/color and decide "this doesn't fit the character", as if certain character can't have mature or younger voices, and as if only one kind of voice color could fit a character. That's something I've never understood. Age plays a role of course I agree with that.

    Amazing video and editing! We have our disagreements here. Your last 3 would stand way higher in my ranking. Lol, French Tiana sounds very much like Greek Tiana, the same voice colour and attitude. You are right about Claire, she is more connected in the 2nd dub, but she would stand higher on me, same for your 1981 Aurora. I really can't enjoy Valerie's voice, and I find her acting a bit fake. Dominique Poulain sounds better in the speaking parts than in her singing ones. Maeva is gorgeous in the speaking parts, unlike her singing, this case strongly reminds me of Katerína Yiamalí. Magali Barney would stand lower. I think we agree about Top 10. That's what I thought about Cerise on those scenes too, she is hilarious, with the good meaning. Anais and Emmylou really deserve their places in the podium, they are gorgeous. This was an amazing video to watch, the editing and the commentary are wonderful. I also liked the fact that you included Cinderella in the 2015 movie. Congratulations! You also inspired me to make a ranking about Greece's speaking voices.

    Wonderful editing! So many great and talented voice actresses! The only ones I can't connect with are Bérnénice Bejo/Merida et Paule Marsay/Cinderella... It's amuse me but I have a complet different opinion about Claire Guyot/Ariel. I find her so much more fresh and natural in 1990, and in 1998 I feel like she "overact" a little sometimes to fit a younger version ( and to Marie's singing), and fitting the lip-sync. Personally, I would put higher Valerie Karsenti (love all the layers she gave to Mulan) and the sweet and calm Dominique Poulain. But, in a other hand, I would put lower Alexia Papineschi, a really good fitting voice for Lily James, but in Cinderella, I think that she was too "cliché", making Ella more naive than kind. But really great ranking, it's impressive! Bravo!

    I can't really judge the 3 last places as I've only heard them in these extracts but I definitely agree with Berenice being the last of the modern actresses... I never liked her, and it's a shame because I don't even watch this movie in French because of that... :/ I'm a little sad to see Bénédicte so low but it's a deserved place unfortunately. For Claire I find her more fresh in the first version, in the redubb I only feel like she tries to sound younger and it doesn't work to me. I'd also place Lucie Dolène higher, or at least higher than her replacement as Snow White, and Dominique Poulain lower. I already don't like her singing and the fact that she keeps her wispering tone in the speaking really gets on my nerves ^^' I forgot how our Aurora sounded and to be honest I'm a little disappointed. She doesn't sound natural, I find her acting over the top (a little similar to her previous actress indeed). I love Mimi as Megara (and the Muse ^^) so I'm glad to see her so high. Maybe I'd even place her higher :) And from the top 11 I have nothing specific to say, they all sound great IMO (and not only because of nostalgia ^^). Maybe Cerise would be lower (I LOVEE her singing but to me she's great in the dramatic parts, her comic moments sound overracted :/ And your number one wasn't surprising, she's also my favorite :D

    Paule...I quite enjoy the singing for Cinderella 1950, but the speaking is a bit pretentious. And I never heard Irene before...holy overacting! Somewhat cute voice but bad acting. Christiane has a bit of a funny accent. I kind of weirdly enjoy Benedicte's 'flat' acting, it makes her extremely different than Paige and it made me enjoy watching B&tB in French from a different lens. I actually find Dominique's speaking has a more pleasant texture than her singing. I really don't like Jeanine...wow, she sounds like....very very slow and listless. I love Claire either way I think, it would come down to indivual lines on which read I prefer. Like 'tu n'as pas le droit' is better in 1998 I think. I love Linda but Magali was the first Jasmine I saw in full. China is better in speaking than singing, her voice is so weirdly suiting to a frog lol and very unique. Some say Mathilda doesn't match Laura but I disagree, I love both. Rebecca Dreyfus gave me a better Esmeralda experience than Demi Moore for sure. Anais is nowhere near my fav singing Elsas but definitely one of the best speaking for me.
