    I am a veterinarian and a Boston owner, and I love your information and channel. And life is better with a Boston. It is one of the breeds with the fewest medical concerns.

    Three out of the four Boston's I had tilted their heads when I talked to them. My vet said this is the sign of an intelligent dog. I would like to think that this was the reason.

    My Boston tilts her head when I am talking to her, like she is listening. She also has eye to eye contact with me while doing this! As for hearing, open a piece of cheese, she is there even if in a deep sleep!

      Chandler can be sound asleep in the front room and hear a wrapper quietly opened in the kitchen in the back. Especially wrappers on cheese slices.

    My Boston tilts his head when I say specific things. For example, if I ask if he wants to go “bye bye” or for a “walk” or do you want a “treat”...he tilts his head. So, my conclusion is he tilts his head when he understands what I’m saying/asking. I know for sure because after I say those key words...he gets all excited and follows me around the house until we go where I said or he gets what he wants. He’s very smart. I love my bOy so much❤️

    I am probably biased. But I think that Boston’s tilt their heads when they are trying to figure out some thing. They are very intelligent, right?

  • @MosaicRose99
    @MosaicRose99 Před 3 lety +6

    I think my Boston tilted her head because, #1 she was really trying to comprehend and hear what we said, and #2, the excitement of what we're saying like, "Do you want to go for a walk, or bye bye in the car"?

    My BT Henry knows quite a few words and names. I think he head tilts in anticipation of something good. He knows the names of his doggie friends and will tilt his head when he hears their names. He also does this with particular people such as my mother. He goes crazy when he hears me say "Grammy", the name all the grandkids call her. Henry also knows "Aunt Terry" and where she lives in our neighborhood.
    I'm pretty sure my BT is a genius!😉
    PS - I think they also know how darn cute they look with the head tilt, expressive face, and eyes and think they can get a treat! More evidence of their genius.😂

    If I ask Buddy “where’s Daddy” he tilts hi head on the word “Daddy”! To me he recognizes the word Daddy and I have his attention!
    We also refer to it as his “cryptonite” look because ur 100% powerless against it! It’s a Boston “super-power”!

    They are insuring whether they are understanding and or what could be something new to them as my Boston does this when he is being spoken to. And when others speak to him. And mostly when he is noticing something new from my voice or my non verbal communication that can be in conjunction with speech

    I noticed that my Boston’s ears would occasionally move in different directions, at the same time, without him moving his head. They reminded me of radar signals which is probably basically what was happening. Each ear honing in on different sounds.☦️👩🏻‍🦳🐾

    This is a very culturally specific example. Here in Taiwan the official language is Mandarin but there are two other Chinese languages spoken, Taiwanese (a variant Hokkien), and Hakka. Chandler hears Mandarin and but gets scolded in Taiwanese, and can snap to attention hearing Taiwanese spoken, even if it's not directed at her. We used to live in a Hakka speaking neighborhood and when the neighborhood grandmother in the park spoke Hakka to her she would always tilt her head after every sentence. I may be projecting a little, but it's true that Chandler rarely heard Hakka other than this situation and that she could distinguish between Mandarin and Taiwanese.

    Scout tilts her head and makes great eye contact when I talk to her. She looks to be so sweet and intelligent. She hears me; she listens. She has also taught me that listening to me and hearing me does not mean she is obeying me. That look is a very sweet and intelligent "yeah, right mommy". 🤓😇

    Chandler is very sensitive to bells and things that ring. If we're watching a movie or tv show with an extended ring, she will tilt her head until it stops. Sometimes she will tilt her head one way then quickly tilt it the other way if the ringing persists. It's really funny.

    I think we over think these traits, there is evidence to support that humans domesticated dogs 40,000 years ago in a single event ... it would seem to me that the most likely reason dog's tilt there heads when we talk to them or make some unnatural noise is because WE find it cute ... its highly likely that a dog and its offspring that had this odd personality quirk 40,000 years got bread and adopted by early humans more then dogs that lacked this trait.
