On top of the already mentioned "upgrade towers" bit, spreading the slow in stages would have massively helped here. You could have staged slowing towers deeper down the line to handle the sprinters that made it to the tower. That 2k gold at the end could have potentially saved that run.
The BEST defense for the small eyeballs that killed you is a shredder tower with Shield upgrades. With enough upgrades it will only take one or two towers to strip their shields, and from there your batistas (which you should put upgrade health) can finish them off.

Also with balistas you shouldn't just upgrade health you should have some with just shield and just armour and also either with the flame or poison tower because they have aoe you should upgrade only health on a few because they hit more than one target

Know that df knows less than you he just does random strategies and repeats the ones that work with slight alterations but thats the reason we watch him that and his amazing commentary
DF doesn't break every game he plays. Just the ones he really likes.
Just so you know placing the towers higher doesnt just increase their range but also BASE damage
DF chaos meter is the equivalent of 8 tanks, 14 nukes, 81 warships, and what the heck lets add every single natural disaster in the universe x3, its even more terrifying with his casual voice
Unless you're doing an achievement run (like no Ballista challenge) you need to be placing Ballista around every house at the start and any the spawn along the path/paths because they generate a massive amount of money over the course of a run. Also Picking fewer towers and instead getting their upgrade cards is much better then grabbing a bunch of towers that only have their base stats. Lastly setting priorities on individual towers is required to get passed the later waves because higher stat enemies need to be worn down over their tip to your tower.
Been looking forward to seeing more of this game!

It's funny how frustrated I get just seeing DF place a million unupgraded towers 🤣🤣
An advice: you can easily specialise in one form of attacking tower, like the obelisk, or pair that with the onlooker tower to gain extra power, then you need universitis for late game
One of the most important things in this game is making sure that you apply all the dot debuffs also increasing the max burn/bleed/poison damage per sec is a double edged sword because the effect won’t last as long, which is bad against regen enemies
I love the gifs the editor puts at the end of a random character dancing especially since it’s usually a new one every time
People don't use enough frost towers, especially towards the keep. Those little fast guys, you need to slow them down so you can hurt them, So having frost towers there would help a lot.
Also if it forks out like that, putting frost towers all down 1 or 2 of the paths along with poison and fire, and bleed. You want to slow down a bunch of the enemies to take the load off your kill box.
Encampments are good but when placing them look at the "fire rate." The higher the fire rate the more space it has available to drop the land mines. They can do really well if placed properly!
You said it kinda backwards. The more space it covers, the more RPM it has, same with the frost tower.

It's easier to have an all-ballista run than to try to go for every single tower type in the same run
Also, you REALLY should be upgrading your towers; upgrading a tower will not only increase the damage multiplier that you chose, but also increase the BASE damage as well
The fire rate of encampments does not work the same way as other towers: encampments have a fixed fire rate **per path tile** that is within the encampment's range - this means that the more path tiles are within the encampment's range, the more mines per minute the encampment will spit out
Enemies drop additional gold for each unique tower they've been hit by, so it's worth having at least one of each AOE tower to get some more money.
@@pixxlated_ That is true, but the fact that upgrade cards stack (and that some very powerful upgrade cards are locked behind weaker upgrade cards) means that there is a natural trade-off between choosing upgrade cards for existing towers and choosing new towers

I wonder how deep down the rabbit hole DF would go in a gemcraft tower defense game? I remember one was released on steam a bit back, and I never got too deep into any of them, but they were utterly fascinating and still are.

I think what happened at the end was that the mortars ended up getting distracted from the central pocket of damage. Fast boys go in, center loses mortar damage, even more fast boys get in.
Also as everyone has been saying for a while now (and even the editors today), upgrading towers not only raises how much Health, Armor or Shield damage a tower do, but also enhances the base damage of the towers as well.
So upgrading a tower will make it more powerful than having 6~10 towers at upgrade lvl 1. Also while I love DF content, he likes to cluster everything up and while nice, some towers lose their edge when in a cluster.
For example one should try to have Frostkeeps all over the map, specially near the tower to slow the roads from beginning to end as some enemies get rather fast, then other towers like the mines are slow or fast based on location. Basically speaking the encampment for the mines shoot them faster when there are other lines around but if you put it in a single road path, the are beyond slow.
Once DF finds out the true power of upgrading, he will surely go beyond 40 easily.
its incredible how DF's editor sees him not upgrade towers - and DF upgrades towers, SO LITTLE throughout this whole thing. why have 1 strong tower when you can have 34918 of them right?
I think there might be a hint to upgrade towers, also should have put more Mines, you would have had Loads more health!

It’s a good idea to ignore those large forts. Extra damage and range is something you want to avoid.

@@titoepfx4272 not just that, but he yet again instantly jumps on unlocking every tower even though he cant afford any of them. having balistas do +1 damage to health is way way better than unlocking a frost keep, for people that dont know. upgrades are way better. thats why most people only get like 3-4 tower types and just boost them

Obelisk is good at destroying bosses with it's 320 RPM and Particle cannon is good at destroying fast and strong enemies with it's high damage i suggest making a particle cannon with lots of health damage

What I found to be the strongest setup is not to select to many towers but focus on getting higher upgrade cards for your existing ones. After upgrading health damage on ballistas three times, you will unlock cards that give you more range on those towers. After upgrading shield three times, you get mana burn arrows. Don't remember what amor upgrades give. But each triple upgrade unlocks a +15% crit card as well, turning your towers into killing machines.
In short: upgrading either health, armor or shield damage for a tower tyoe three times will unlock the most powerful upgrades for that tower.
I've found that mortars>balistas even when it comes to upgrade

Its a good idea if you have teammates cause they can focus on the back but solo i reccomend fortify mid point and choke points most fortify is base cause i saw someone play and they got recked by fast enemies

I feel like a point that's not being made is "yo-yo-ing" the new tower vs. upgrade breakpoints. Then again, just going into and varying turret priority regardless of number can work wonders, too.
The best way to do it is use ballistas up to about lvl 15 placing them around every house and only upgrade ballistas. Then at lvl 15 try to have about 3 towers max, a shield tower like posion sprayer, an armor tower like flame thrower, and your ballista. After lvl 15 armor becomes a factor so put armor shredding towers at the beginning of each path like a flame thrower a and rely on your ballistas for the rest, trust me once you get broadhead bolts, heavy shafts, and shield damage along with Mana bolts nothing gets through the ballistas until level 25 and even then barely. Once you hit lvl 25 you should hopefully have banditry to give you an extra 6g per kill and Mana banks with the savings upgrade. Also when expanding try to pick one path to expand and make a long path, another to be a little shorter, and another to be the shortest at the beginning so your towers aren't overwhelmed. Other than that the DF way also works if the RNG God's are fully on your side.
Armor comes at level 8 iirc, shields come at level 15

Tesla coils. The best tower in the game if you want mana to run out quickly while doing hardly anything at all. Poison tower is infinitely better in all ways

The best defense is the Tesla coil tower, I defended the castle twice with it and killing the boss really easy as long as you have the upgrade of poison that slows the enemy and also getting the poison sprayer, it out-matched the obelisk by a ton since I've upgraded the Tesla coil to 125 levels with 3k to 4k to shield, armor, health, and does 100+ base damage which one hits some enemies, perfect of roundabouts.
Best thing to watch in the middle of the night.
He is getting better. I am glad. Wave 40, it is a killer. Just ask Wander.
