More info on snakes, bites, and fear of snakes, for the interested:
To this day, despite having handled hundreds of snakes, I have never been bitten by any snake of any kind -- venomous or nonvenomous, wild or pet, big or small, old or young -- across 40 species.
I used to teach seminars for people to overcome their fear of snakes, and have studied the origins of ophidiophobia too, and from what I and lots of other scientists have found, there is no genetic/innate fear humans have of snakes; it's learned. It's still an ongoing debate though, of course.
But when you also consider that snakes bite ~8,000 people per year in the US and kill >10 of them, compared to animals typically adored like deer (injure ~10,000 and kill 100-200) and dogs (injure 4.7 million and kill 16), snakes get a bad reputation for literally no reason other than rumors and myths.
Not only that, but of all those snake bites, >75% of them are on the hands and arms, meaning people are messing with the snakes first, and the most common chemicals in the bloodstream found alongside the hemotoxin of the bite recipients is alcohol. The remaining

@@Ptrck Oh I have plenty of stories, but mostly it's the people who call me for help that are the subject of the stories since humans are so... "interesting". The snakes seldom cause issues -- with the majority of them sitting there calmly while I pick them up and place them in a bucket and then relocate them. I've dealt with a few grumpy snakes (either they just ate recently, or they've lived around humans a lot and are skiddish/wary), but none that would really make me go into great detail 😅

Only keelbacks and garters are poisonous... so unless you eat snakes, they shouldn't concern you. Venom and poison are very different things.
