    Oh my. Watching that wing fall was tough. I dropped my wing backing up. The right mirror was folded in and when I turned to the right the brake lever hit the mirror and took me by surprise. How or why that mirror was folded in is beyond me. It was an easy drop and only messed up some lower plastic. But, lesson learned. Don’t ever fold in your mirrors. This project of yours will be interesting. I like a lot of your ideas, the best was the seat bolts. They are awesome and I don’t fight nothing lining them up on my DCT. Awesome solution to a frustrating problem.

    Ouch! Interesting stuff. No longer a goldwing owner, but this is still cool. I was in the Hollywood hills on my 2018, trying to park, and when I put down a foot, I didn't have the reach because of the grade. However, I did like You said, and did my best to guide the bike down, and it didn't go past the built in protectors. Had to recruit a couple of helpers to get it back up though. Wings are heavy when the drop on a downhill.

    Max, While taking my bike off the center stand on a hill with the tire at an odd angle, I had my bike flip over, damage the bags, mirror, tailpipe, break lever etc... and that was with me trying to stop it. Had to ride over 1000 miles with a 1 finger break lever. Also while practicing low speed maneuvers I can see a scenario where you are giving the bike too much throttle or it gives you a little jerk as you engage the throttle and off you go as the bike spills with power behind it (DCT version). Anyway, never say never :-)

    Max, we have the goldstrike driver foot pegs. Our bike (2018) tipped over one time last due to wet boot bottoms slipping off the center stand when trying to put it on the stand. It fell completely over on the right side. The mounting brackets for the foot pegs kept the bike off the saddlebag and the mirror. Picked the bike back up, not a scratch on the bike and no damage to the mounting brackets on the foot pegs.

    Your videos have been a great aid with my new 2021 Goldwing Tour (I pull a trailer so I'm uncomfortable with the Automatic). I thought about your potential tip-over scenario and I always thought that an additional side stand, reverse engineered, on the right side of the bike, wired in series with the Honda safeties, would probably handle just about any situation short of a tornado. I also thought it would be great to have when you're in the mountains and the only place to park is where the street slopes beyond the side-stand angle on the left side and there's no parking on the right side of the street/road. Just sayin' . . . . John Geiler: President, Shadow Riders STL

    • @Traxxion
      @Traxxion  Před 2 lety

      That's a pretty cool idea... but the production would definitely have to come from Honda. The sidestand on a Goldwing is the most abused part on the motorcycle. Almost anything other than a factory designed in part couldn't take the abuse.

  • @kc5hgv
    @kc5hgv Před 2 lety +2

    I bought my Case guard from a Motorcycle Accessory Store online and it was an extension for the front almost like the old Goldwing's had. I have no idea why Honda would do this on their newer bikes. This kit cost me $500 dollars and a 2 hour install. Like Max said you have to peel off the tupperware so you can bolt this kit to the frame. I just cannot remember the Store name. That was a year ago.

    I think the issue for most riders, me included, is the minimal protection that Honda provides in the event of dropping the bike during slow speed maneuvers. I consider myself a fairly good rider, but my slow speed maneuvering needs work and I’m hesitant to even practice knowing that a drop, even at such slow speeds, is possibly going to cause some substantial damage. I’ve seen a video by another CZcamsr who designed and built a “T” extension for the stock Honda protection. While they’re kind of ugly, they work quite well in the low speed tip-over scenario. I’m anxious to see what you come up with. Another quality product, I’m sure.

    • @PeterGamba
      @PeterGamba Před 2 lety +2

      I'll second that motion. Mine is my ONLY mode of transportation. It did tip totally over once and that was enough for me, so yes practicing any sort of slow turns are out of the question due to the fact of very little protection, so I am all in on whatever Max comes up with. I trust his instincts.

    well I as practicing my slow maneuvering a couple weeks ago. Bike locked all the way left and down I went. Wasn't the bikes fault it was mine was trying to find the sweet spot (throttle/braking) in a tight turn. Did tip all the way over and yes some scratches were left behind on saddle bag handle bar end and the mirror housing. Nothing really bad but really hurt my feelings do this.

    Max, I don’t agree with you that the bike WILL NOT roll onto the lid. Mine went the other way and I could not stop it for anything. It rolled and my lid is now scratched and will need to be painted. How did this happen? Taking it off the center stand, on a hill, I was on the left side and it went right. I did have a hold of it.

    Any updates on the tip over protection? My experience is that the oem tip over protection does not prevent the bike from rolling over onto the saddle bag and the mirror surround. $1,200 per drop or tip over is not acceptable. These are expensive motorcycles and should include proper engineering to minimize damage. Plastic painted parts are expensive. This is preventable!

    I have some neuropathy that affects my left arm, and leg. I have dropped my 2018 Wing on two occasions. The damage to the saddle bag and the mirror surround occurred just as you described. The cost to repair was about $1,000 in parts each time. I removed and replaced the parts myself. Where I disagree with you is the with your assertion that the factory guards provide any protection at all. They do not. They do not extend out far enough to provide any protection at all. I don’t know what you have in mind, but anything would be an improvement on the original design.
