You know the actor is awesome when he makes us cry over a volley ball.
I've watched this film at least once a year since it came out (by pure serendipity, not by active choice), and I don't think I've ever not cried when he loses Wilson
It’s funny. I made this same comment on another reactors video, and everyone came after me saying, “We weren’t crying for a volleyball!!!” blah blah blah. People just don’t want to admit they cried for a ball 😂
@@Silky808you don't cry over the volleyball. You cry over tom Hanks reaction...
@@donnieboughton1730First of all, im joking. Second why did you reply to me and not the op that said this as well?
😆 well, I mean when your stranded on an island, you probably entitled to freak out a little.
"WILSON!!!! I'M SORRY, WILSON!" 😢
Never again!
💔💔💔😢😪😥
Wilson is the last name of Tom hanks wife..Rita wilson
@@Anaj-us4eoI cannot freaking believe that never occurred to me 🤬🤬🤬. I pride myself on catching the little details lol. Maybe I shouldn't
Aww the amount I miss in movies is insane…
The Terminal is another Tom Hanks movie that is really good and emotional.
Another one of my favorites!!! I always recommend this movie because it doesn't get the attention it deserves!
Terminal and cast away is almost same movies 😃
@@audiotsignebi True. Stranded on an island and stranded in an airport... 😆
Victor's Theme when he's figuring out the quarters is one of my favorite musical themes in any movie.
Hey, Forrest Gump!
😂 Castaway makes for such a good reaction video. Not only is the movie great, but there’s so little dialogue that it allows you guys to actually discuss the movie properly while you watch without talking over anything important.
It's "Cast Away". There's a good reason it's not 'castaway'.
WILSON!!! I'M SORRY, WILSON!!!.
That line just brings me to tears every time. 😢
The Green Mile, and A League of Their Own are two good ones 👌
The green mile
Oh my gosh the green mile is one of the best. It'll destroy them but they'll love it!
A League of Their Own is such an underrated classic. An amazing film.
Cloud Atlas is another really good one, but I understand that it isn't for everyone and it is pretty long.
Apollo 13
In real life, the film took a one-year break during the time when the film says “Four years later.” While Hanks grew his hair and beard, lost weight and got fit, the director (and most of the crew) made the film “What Lies Beneath.”
Tom Hanks - "Apollo 13", "The Green Mile", "Saving Private Ryan", "Catch Me if you Can"
"Splash" was a good one, early in his career; also one of the first directed by Ron Howard.
Try to avoid "The Money Pit"; so very bad, embarrassing even.
Tom Hanks is such a good actor that he’ll make you cry over a volleyball.
getting emotional over a volleyball just seemed too weird... I wouldn't have felt better if there was no "volleyball" there at all in the movie.... I mean a stranded island, and you just happen to find your FedEx packages washed up ?
That's was just luck.. I still don't grasp that no matter how many times I watch this.
The scene when he leaves the island and breaches the final wave, he knows he made it and he looks back and sees the island, his prison home for 4 years.. he's been building to this moment for the majority of that.. I imagine the emotions he conveyed perfectly in that moment.. Relief, Fear, Excitement, all simultaneously.. it never fails to bring tears to my eyes.. in my opinion, one of his absolute best acting moments.. it reminds me when Red is explaining to the others about the prison walls in the Shawshank Redemption.. "These walls are funny.. at first you hate them, then, you get used to them, before long you get to where you depend on them" ❤❤
Saving Ryan's private is a good Hank movie 😅
That’s what she said 🤭
Starring: Tom Hangs
Mad trolling much
You mean *_Shaving_* Ryan's privates. lol thats what ive always called it.
Lolol good recommendation.. then Green Mile 😅
The green Mile and Apollo 13 are musts!
I loved the little bit where he is just standing outside in the rain - completely unbothered by the elements at this point.
Roles like this and Forrest Gump are why Tom Hanks is my favorite actor.
Forrest Gump is definitely one of the best movies ever made
@@sandimcalisterblood2675 Agreed.
BIG is another one of my favourite tom hanks movies! 😊
Don't listen to anyone who says crying makes you look weak. They are the true weak ones for suppressing emotions.
Who in 2024 thinks that?
If you don't cry for Wilson you are not a human.
@@DrJohnnyFever. Not so much crying over the ball but the man's devastation.
@@calvinwendland8373 Yeah that too but I cried over the ball.
@@scotter23 The men who fight your wars.
My son was about four when this came out he cried so bad in the theater whenever he lost Wilson that he had everybody in there crying😂😂😂
Tom Hanks belongs on the Mount Rushmore of actors. Who else could do a movie with very little speaking and it still be a success?
Except he’s on a pedo listttt
Even a cursory fact check shows that isn't true.
Aw man, that reef just sinking into his leg like a hot knife through butter still gets me every time. Also 37:27 will never not make me laugh my ass off. When "Four years later" showed up in the theater, I was like "Oh man, are you kidding?" I was totally alone in there that day. Perks of watching matinee showings.
The Green Mile but bring all the tissues
"Money Pit" and "The Terminal" are 2 great Tom Hanks movies.
The Money Pit! I laughed soooo hard at that turkey scene
You're half right. "The Money Pit" is good. "The Terminal", not so much.
I forgot about Money Pit I was like 8 but it was great ❤!❤
@williamjones6031 the first part of this movie, I forgot this WASNT the terminal!
An underrated sad part of this movie was leaving the island. Everything he thought knew learned about himself, was in that island. And he had to leave himself, behind.
it was either that, or leave his life behind.
He left an island of loneliness to a population that made him feel lonely.
"I'm sorry Wilson." 😔😔😔
My favorite and tear jerker is Philadelphia with stellar supporting cast... touches my heart every time.!!!
Tom Hanks wrote and directed “That Thing You Do” which is fantastic!
One of my favorites!!!
Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters!!!
Jane’s family passes down swords? That’s freaking dope!
So glad you guys reacted to this, Jane & JV! This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I watch it when I need a little inspiration through tough times. Meanwhile, some fun little details for you:
The movie opens and closes on the same crossroads and stretch of road -- the road to Bettina (the Angel sculptor's) house.
Bettina is listening to Elvis when Fedex pulls up in the beginning (subtle clue she is Chuck's soul mate)
In the early shots of Chuck's home, you can see that he has several pictures of himself on small sailboats, awards for sailing, and books on solo small-boat sailing
Aside from the Russian chorus and Elvis songs, there is zero musical score to "Cast Away" until the shot of Chuck sailing away from the island on his raft, 103 minutes into the movie.
Zemeckis sent several crew members off to try to "survive" for a few days before the final script polish to see what the biggest challenges were -- and they all ended up in the movie -- fire, opening coconuts, water, raw fish/crabs, shelter.
In the end, Chuck is no longer working for Fedex (and presumably never has to work again), so he seems to be on a self-given quest to drive around and self-deliver the packages that helped to save him on the island. I love that he has Wilson with him again! And that he saved Angel lady ("Bettina") for last as the most meaningful.
I absolutely think he turns around and goes back to Angel sculptor's house after that pause at the end of the movie.
Tom Hanks in Splash is an awesome love story movie where he falls in love with a Mermaid. Classic movie. A must watch!!
WILSON deserves an Oscar
"You never know what the tide'll bring in," is beautiful 💙🌊
I know that being a parent changes you big time. I used to never cry or maybe i would subconsciously supress my emotions. But when i became a parent I noticed i got more emotional and sensitive not in a bad way but in a more conscious way, like you understand life better. Anyway great reaction these movies arent just entertaining but they also help us grow
"She married Mr. Big and had a baby." Oh my God, that gave a good laugh. 😅
And if she knows all that info about actors.... shes seen this movie before. These youtubers be lying.
@@theperfectbalance5482 Every woman knows Mr Big, what are you talking about lol
@@Quabbe2 thats what i just said dummy
@@theperfectbalance5482Mr Big isn’t his name in the movie, and he’s recognizable from TV shows dork.
Grew up watching it and love it and love the line at the end when he's talking to his friend and what he says about the tide also rip Wilson long live Wilson jr
Check out Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks. It's got an amazing cast: Gary Sinise, Bill Paxton, Kevin Bacon, Ed Harris. An amazing and true story about the U.S. space program.
Apparently during production, in the scene where Wilson floats away, they actually let him float away. So he’s still supposed to be somewhere in the ocean. If you find him, he’s supposed to be worth over a million dollars.
Tom Hanks won an Oscar for Forrest Gump and won the next year too for ‘Philadelphia’ which I believe got Denzel an Oscar nomination. It was a very good movie
I’d want Norm Macdonald to be Wilson voice.
The Green Mile, my favorite movie of all time. Has both Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan in it. A magnificent, beautiful movie ❤
Three very significant films starring Tom Hanks are: Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13 and Philadelphia (Best Actor Oscar.)
I was waiting for someone to say Philadelphia ❤ I was going through the comments and hadn’t seen anyone say it until yours ❤
@Vanessa7831 same here. My favorite 😢
It was the “She married Mr. Big” for me!!! Lol… #iloveit 😂😂😂
"Did they have GoPros in 2000?"
I didn't get my first digital still camera until 2002, Digital video barely existed for professionals.
Road to Perdition and The Green Mile. 2 more greats from Toim Hanks. The Burbs was also one of my favorites lol
It would have been hilarious if at the end when he meets the lady and delivers that package, she tells him it was a sat phone inside. That he could have used to contact the outside world. ^_^
I've always liked to think it was a satellite phone with a solar charger...
That bag that broke off his raft had the radio sounder, which activates as soon as it gets wet. Also, everyone needs to learn how to start a Fire with matches - the Scouts I was in (and eventual became a Eagle Scout) really helped me with learning that skill.
Y’all gotta watch “the terminal” and “a man called Otto”. Two really great Tom Hanks movies
That scene where he busts out his tooth just makes me hurt in every possible way 😵💫😭😭😭😭😭💀💀💀
Voice of Wilson: GILBERT GOTTFRIED... lol
Danny De Vito
A good actor can make you love a hero. A great actor can make you both love fear a villain. But it takes the goat of acting to make you cry over the tragic loss of a volleyball.
whatever you say.
Definitely watch Terminal at some point
"Wilson!!! I'm sorry, Wilson!" 😭😭😭
I think Castaway is better than Forrest Gump. Then again they're both good. ❤
15:52 Even if the beeper or cell phone was water proof, there aint no signal out there 😅
I took my eldest son to see this, we BAWLED over Wilson. I bought him a Wilson ball.
The Green Mile and Saving Private Ryan. Both HUGE
Some of my favorite Tom Hanks movies:
The Green Mile
Catch Me If You Can
Philadelphia
A Man Called Otto
Lesson Learned, from this movie, Die Hard, and my Time in the Air Force - Never take your boots off where others are wearing shoes. As an Air Force cadet, we have to have our boots within three feet of us at all times. You can head outside in your draws (or even butt-naked), but make sure you have your boots and are within reach of your weapon if in a combat zone.
I had never noticed he had another Wilson with him in the truck. Glad you mentioned it.
So, this was 2000's "Cast Away". Ten years earlier Tom Hanks starred with Meg Ryan in "Joe vs the Volcano", a concept film that has Hanks floating on a raft in the Pacific and being watched over (the first time) by a whale. Meg plays three different women. Well worth a reaction.
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have costarred in three films together:
-"Joe vs the Volcano" (1990)
-"Sleepless in Seattle" (1993)
-"You've Got Mail" (1998) (a remake/update of "The Shop Around the Corner")
With Hanks's first costar part with Meg Ryan playing three characters, it's interesting that he teamed up with an international ensemble cast to do "Cloud Atlas" (2012). The story spreads out across thousands of years, with the ensemble making appearances as different characters in different relationships to each other each time period. I think it may be the only film where Hanks appears as a villain (and actually plays TWO villains). Rarely done as a reaction, but well worth doing it; GREAT FILM!!!
You'll note that, in this film, when Hanks first learns his coworker's wife is dying, his immediate reaction is to find a way to 'fix' the problem. When he returns, his immediate reaction is to empathize and offer solace.
Chuck knew he had to let the fiancé go because when he returned from the island, he was a different man; he may have looked like the 'love of her life', but he was very different now.
And the feast that FedEx had set up for him on his return... Chuck was SO OVER seafood; talk about clueless!
Great reaction.
I've never seen such extreme reaction to the plane crash, or Chuck being scraped over coral, or ESPECIALLY the DIY dentalwork!
And the tears over the loss of Wilson; so sweet.
But what REALLY had me laughing like a loon...
"It's like...your mouth is having a baby...but your frickin' vagina won't open..." The EYES 👀!!!
Another thing he'd have to contend with is the paperwork involved in getting yourself brought back to life. Apparently it's a clerical nightmare for people that have themselves accidentally declared dead, and can take months to get resolved. At the very least with him being semi-famous, he might have some lawyers willing to help him with it 😅
Only Tom Hanks could make me cry over a grown manlosing a volleyball.
Great actor -- my next pick is Turner and Hooch -- Its a fun one and you can see how Tom evolves into the character we all love now
Captain Phillips was amazing
You would have ALL of your "How'd they do that?" questions answered if you watch the mini documentary about how they did it all.
Chuck's relationship with Wilson is a strong reminder that human beings were not created to be alone. Had it not been for Wilson, who knows what state of mind Chuck would have been in...long b4 that 4 year mark!
Gr8 reaction guys! 🙌🙌❤❤
I don't know about big Hollywood blockbuster Hanks other than notable mentions, but The Terminal is definitely worth a watch.
Waterproofing things have been around for along time haha not just 2000s
He's not just a castaway (one word), he was Cast Away from his love (the title). Great reaction.
He’s a phenomenal actor who can make you cry over a volleyball 😅
56:10 Jane, i am so happy you acknowledged the fact that she DID marry Mr. Big and had his baby hahaha
Real men cry. And you sir, are a real man. I love your videos!
That whole aircrash sequence is one of the best if not the best I have seen.
Extremely realistic
Watch society of the snow, the crash scene in that was so detailed and graphic.
The Da Vinci Code with Tom Hanks is a great one to watch.
I read a comment a while back, and I didn't realize that there is no soundtrack (background music) until Chuck leaves the island.
Catch Me If You Can. Such a great movie. And with Leonardo Dicaprio!
The Terminal and That Thing You Do!!!!
Green Mile is tragic/beautiful... but so is Philadelphia (alongside Denzel W), get your tissues ready for this one!
I swear there was a spoof done back in the day and the girl opened the package and there was a lighter and a knife and other stuff that could have helped him on the island lmao
It was a satellite phone because she was sending it to her husband to say basically “call me back fucker”
I believe it was a FedEx Super Bowl commercial :)
When I was probably about 11, my brother 8. My parents watched this movie with us until the point where the plane crash was over.... That was the part they remembered be traumatic and since we seemed ok they left us to watch the rest alone. When Wilson floated away we LOST IT and came running upstairs screaming and crying unable to say even "Wilson!"
I think in the bag he lost was a emergency beacon
Yes, when activated it helps them find you quite easily. I just commented that when I was a teenager I tried commercial fishing in my grandpa’s boat. One of the first things he showed me was one of these and how to activate it, just in case. Wikipedia EPIRB to learn about them if you feel like it. They communicate your position via satellites.
Wiiiiiiilllllsssssooooonn! Will never not be heartbreaking
My favorite Tom Hanks movies:
* Mazes and Monsters 1982
* The 'Burbs 1989
* A League of Their Own 1992
* Sleepless in Seattle 1993
* Forrest Gump 1994
* Apollo 13 1995
Three things I learned about this movie that you might find interesting,
All of the scenes on the island were shot during the day and then darkened later and no microphones. All sound, including Tom's lines were dubed in later at a recording studio.
Did you notice that there is no music in the background?
All agreed that adding background music would take away from the feeling of isolation.
That bag that broke off when the plane crashed usually contains flares and other essential survival equipment and gear for signaling for help.
Apollo 13, The Green Mile, Catch Me If You Can, Saving Private Ryan and The Terminal are amazing Tom Hanks movies. A lot of his movies are really big hits and quite a few of them are based off of real events or people. Tom Hanks almost died while filming this movie. He cut his leg since he was on his knees so much, got a staph infection and wound up in the hospital for 3 days because of it. He was refusing to bathe and they caught it before it poisoned his blood.
More Tom Hanks movies:
Apollo 13, Sully, Saving private Ryan, The Green Mile
Great reaction guys like always, So many parts of this movie hit me and you touched on everyone. I still can't get the scene out of mind where he's back in his hotel room and looks at all the food on the table and lights the lighter. All the things we take for granted in our life that comes in gross abundance and he had to fight to acquire the simplest pleasures every day for 4 years. I don't think I could have made it.~
And some fun facts about this movie it was a star-driven project. Hanks read an article about FedEx, which illuminated the fact that massive jets filled with packages were crossing the Pacific Ocean multiple times a day for the shipping company. The actor wondered what would happen if one of those planes went down, and that was the seed from which Cast Away grew.
Zemeckis and company began shooting the film in January 1999, and then two months later, production took a break…for over a year. Yes, Cast Away did not shoot again until April 2000. During that time, Hanks lost weight and grew out his hair and beard in order to be able to shoot all the later scenes on the island. For the uninhabited island that Chuck washes up on the shore of, they shot on…an uninhabited island. Although, this one isn’t in the middle of nowhere. Monuriki is an island in the Fiji archipelago. It has since become a tourist attraction.
As for the scenes at the ranch, those were shot at Arrington Ranch just south of Canadian, Texas. FedEx was happy to be involved in Cast Away. They provided access to their facilities in Memphis, Los Angeles, and Moscow, not to mention their planes and uniforms. The company’s real CEO even cameos to welcome Chuck back. Keep up the good work
Ya gotta love the statement made about CIVILIZED people eating/wasting food so carelessly (opening Thanksgiving dinner...post-rescue hotel spread).
Another parallel between this movie and Forrest Gump is when Helen Hunt describes how he "drifted" on the ocean...mirror of the FG feather!
Another great Tom Hank's movie well worth watching is the Cohen brother's "Road to Perdition". Stellar cast; Tom Hanks, Paul Newman, Jude Law, Daniel Craig, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and a very young Tyler Hoechlin.
Lol when Justin asked who should voice Wilson, my vote would be for either of the Seth's.
Remember the first of the movie, the birthday card, the thing about the earth being the MOST IMPORTANT THING, the trees to make rope, the logs for the raft, the crabs and coconut to eat, the tides, and the whale keeping watch over him!?!?!? Think about it! GREAT reaction by you both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another big movie with Tom Hanks!!!! Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, Captain Phillips. Definitely the first 2 movies for sure. By the way, I LOVED your reaction to this movie. Keep up the great reactions.
Green mile and captain Phillips are both MUST WATCH!!!
Lari White, the redhead giving directions to Tom Hanks at the end of the movie, was also a country singer. She tragically died of cancer at the age of 52 back in 2018.
Fun fact the fire making scene Tom Hanks actually practiced making fire that way and the reaction we see in the movie was his actual reaction to finally making the fire
The fact that Robert Zemeckis is able to makes emotionally attached to a volleyball is a testament to his brilliant directing. The score by Alan Silverstri really tugs at the heart strings too! 💔
Production note: Wilsons first break through role was in 1986, Top Gun. He co-stared in the Volleyball scene. The guy's a Legend!
Wilson, voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait. That's the voice I use when filling in the responses from Wilson. The movie is so quiet, I actually suffer from Tom's issue that causes him to speak to Wilson in the first place lol.
And Tom's character would be getting PAID in this movie. Like 4+ years of backpay and I'm talking every hour of 4 years, including overtime. And then some type of hazard pay bonus on top.
Note to self! Never travel with Tom Hanks!
In Tom Hanks' headcanon, Chuck follows that pretty redhead and lives happily ever after!
Maybe later on, but it wouldn't have been appropriate while he was still in love with Kelly.
@Vlasko60 no, he let her go. It was fate that he kept the package because he delivered it to the pretty redhead...
Tom Hanks is phoenominal in this movie.
Apollo 13! One of my childhood favourites :)
