Your definition of a giant mountain of whip cream is way different than mine.
Hahaha! I definitely read this as he was saying it and laughed out loud. I agree with you for sure!
My mom used to make a pie like this but it had a custard layer on the bottom. The combination was perfect
That is how I am going to make this pie with m hime made custard
could you tell us how to make a custard for that bottom layer ? I haven't ever made custard. Sounds Divine.
Was just thinking creme patisserie on bottom😊
Make that book "Super Easy Barely an Inconvenience" and I'm sold .
Having a book full of recipes that are barely an inconvenience is TIGHT.
Oh yea I noticed this reference a from a mile away. NICE
Just got home from preparing crockpot pork loin and This Strawberry pie with the handmade pie crust.....WOW! Mom absolutely LOVED the the pie!!! It was so pretty and smells wonderful!
My Mom used to make this every year for my birthday as it is as the end of June and for us that was peak fresh strawberry season. What a treat.
That's awesome! Your mom must have been amazing.
I made this for every holiday the last couple of years and it's a HUGE HIT. But I made my own Graham cracker crust instead and it's absolutely amazing. Thanks for the recipe!! ❤
I use a chocolate graham cracker crust and it's out of this world.
do you have to cook the graham cracker crust ahead
@@Chadkindred Yes. It does not take long though. I'm pretty sure I just looked up an easy Graham cracker crust recipe. I think cook time is 7 minutes. It's crackers, sugar and butter. I double the recipe because I like a nice thick crust.
@@susanrogers5145 Oh I definitely need to try this!
I've been making this for years, as well as fresh blueberry pie. Half cooked and half raw makes for a delightful sweet and crunchy pie.
Ooh... do you do the same for fresh blueberry pie? I've not had that one. But I LOVE blueberries! 🫐💜
Can't believe I hadn't thought of it. So, you cook down half the blueberries for the pie filling type, and mix in another cup or whatever of raw blueberries? That sounds devine!
@@feliciagaffney1998
Yes, cook half of the blueberries add the cornstarch slurry, cook until thickened, cool a bit, add the fresh berries and place in the shell. Basically it's exactly as John did, but using blueberries. Enjoy
Cream cheese under the strawberries brings this pie to the next level
HI John, Happy Saturday. Hope your weather this weekend is as idyllic as where I am.
. I saw this recipe Thursday night. May 9th. Walked into my local grocery on Friday to find Strawberries for $ 1.99 a pound, blackberries and blue berries too. Picked up some frozen crusts and spent this Saturday morning May 11th. making this pie. Right now it is in the refrigerator doing its 3 hour rest. I found the tip about listening for the SOUND of the boiling puree to change to blopps very helpful. The puree came out perfect. The frozen crust are a bit smaller than your masterpiece, but it took all the filling, kind of a mound,
My neighbors at my apt building are eagerly awaiting their promised slices. I will take a photo and post it here,,once i figure out how to do that. YUMMMMMM
I can smell those strawberries! Yummy, can’t wait til I can go pick some and try this recipe. Thanks 😊
Instead of (only) cornstarch you could also use jam sugar. It contains extra pectin. Expose pection to heat (around 100c, well just above) and it will set the juice into a thicker liquid. I tend to use it for reductions too, works well with berry based reductions especially!
If you didn't know; pectin is the naturally present compound in fruits that helps to set a jam or marmalade!
Commenting so I remember to come back and do this lmao
You’re just making jelly.
@@codename495 sort of yes
But why add more starch if you can be conservative :)
I have my own reasons to do that after all
That crust looks amazing
I love strawberry pie and have an almost identical recipe I got from my grandma. Mine has a super good shortbread crust.
Love the scientific explanation regarding the moisture content of frozen strawberries. ❤
Agree 100%
This looks amazing! I enjoy your soothing voice explaining the steps as well!
Yes me too! ❤😊
His videos are very calming and his recipes look yummy😋
That crust 😍. I use a straw to “core” them from the bottom. Quick and easy. Goodness what perfect timing ❤.
Last year I cored what I couldn’t use right away and vacuum sealed them. Popped them open the other day and the fragrance was amazing. Delicious in smoothies and would be great to turn into that jammy element.
John, just use the tip of a standard teaspoon to hull the strawberries. Learned that trick while working in a restaurant.
What is truly amazing is WILD strawberry pie. Any country kid knows what I am talking about.
This is exactly like the pie I grew up making with my mama every summer.. thanks for the nostalgia.. Im gonna have to make a strawberry pie this weekend

Love this!! I'll make it tommorow❤
This looks like the perfect summer dessert!
This is a good recipe. I use to make it all the time.
Will make for Mother’s Day yum
Hey! A suggestion you might like: instead of using cold water in your pie crust, try a couple tablespoons of yogurt! It makes a pie crust that is richer, golden, and can be re-worked if necessary as often as you like.
My family has been making pie crusts this way for decades now.
It's also not quite as fragile as to the amount of "liquid" you are putting into the pie crust. It can go anywhere from a couple tablespoons to half a cup.
I love the way you make pie crust😊😊
Looks so fresh!!!
Pastry your way every day of the week John. Yummy. Thanks 🙏🏻
Nice and simple recipes to get and doesn't take much time 🎉🎉🎉
Looks yummy! Thank you!
My mouth is watering so much!

Many thanks for sharingJohn!
I just put your strawberry pie into the fridge!
My first ever attempt at making a pie or any dessert to be honest. I also made your base/crust.
The smells for both were great!
The better half will be surprised when she wakes tomorrow!
Thanks again and have a great weekend.

Rhubarb almost ripe here!! I make strawberry rhubarb pie!! Made my first double crust with stars on top!!
That sounds amazing and the stars are a nice touch 🤩
Much love !❤ Ty
Looks so so good ❤🍓
This my favorite rare pie. Some use too much gelatin but i like how your fresh strawberry 🍓 filling looks for the 🥧
Yum and thank you so very so very much especially thank 👍👍👍😇♥️
Never considered a strawberry pie before seeing your vid..thanks!! It does give me ideas on how to also create variations including using different fruits like raspberries or blueberries adopting the same concepts.
And I'm thinking it reminds me so so much of a Lemon Meringue, that I could finally get the nerve to make the swiss meringue w some of the fruit filling on top for a nice combo.
Anyways, thanks for sharing this recipe - gave me lots of ideas and alternatives to consider too!
Use a straw to take out the core. Go through the bottom straight to the top. Work perfect.
I just pinch off the crown with my fingers xD
I don't like to discard the core, I don't mind it at all :)
It’s completely unnecessary to remove the “core” a strawberry because the hull is just as edible and not much of a texture difference for it to make a difference than say an apple core. Just pinch the top or chop it. The straw hack is superfluous nonsense for bored people
Thank you for the nice manners. I was answering his question on how do you take the top off the strawberry. I thought this was supposed to me for nice, positive feed back. Really, try to be kind there is enough hate in the world already.
Looks delicious
Is a HIT my friend many thanks bless to your family much appreciated
Thank you for the video
IT DOES LOOK DELICIOUS JOHN I MUST SAY THAT. 😊👍🏼
Looks so pretty😍I bet it tastes amazing😋😋
Delicious!
Yum. I did order you cook book anxious to get it in
🤔 How did You, know I have 4 pounds of🍓in my fridge & frozen 🥧 crust in my freezer 🕵️♂️ Does anyone know the word for the absolute Joy you get, when you already have Everything for the recipe 🧐 👏🏻💕🙏🏼
Oh wow! Tht is literally perfect timing. Happy pie making!!
I was wondering yesterday if strawberry pie is a thing 😋 happy to know it is
Lovely John ❤️😊
miam ! this pie looks delicious
Looks good 👍
Really awesome n delicious. 🙂😊.
Amazing 😊
Looks so delicious can’t wait to try this recipe. By any chance do you have a recipe for coconut cheesecake?
Yumm!!! How is there not a Fraisier Cake recipe and video on your channel!?!?!
You don't need a huller, a paring knife helps you take of the cap and the stem of the strawberry, and you don't throw away a big chunk of the fruit
Strawberry pie? Yeah I’m gonna have to try this
Awesome
Ok. I’m sold and plan to make this tomorrow after I get some Florida Strawberries….
I just pre ordered your upcoming book! PLEASE make a rainbow bundt cake tutorial video 🥺
Spectacular strawberry creation.... I wonder about some freshly-grated lemon zest added to berry mixture as it's spooned into the crust for extra zing?
That looks amazing......so how much to ship this to me?😂
This is like my great grandmother's fresh strawberry pie recipe. 🥧 😋
I've made her recipe a few times... I can't find it right now.
Sounds so good! I have used strawberry jello at times but it doesn't match your homemade pie.
Yummm will try that! How about raspberries pie too plsssss❤😊
This is my first time watching ur channel! I really like your recipes! Especially the cookies, cakes, and brownies! If u have nothing planned to share new recipes, can u plz do a salted caramel cupcake recipe 🤤😋 my mom loves salted caramel. I would also like recipes of Matcha, it can be cookies, cupcakes, brownies, cakes, anything! Keep up the good work 👍 👌👌
Like strawberry and tart 😊😊😋😋😋😋
I love how you turned into Moira Rose when you said “if you are a lemon lover”.
The taste must be amazing 😊 the appearance is perfect 😍
Beautiful video
Can you please make a strawberry
Or a lemon tart
I love you and your family
God bless you
Hey John, when are coming “Down Under” Melbourne Australia????
Love to see you here 👍🙏
Super 🎉
Thank yuo 👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is exceptional with a layer of cream cheese on the bottom.
Oh... yum!
The only change I would suggest is using a graham cracker crust.
Thanks again 👍🙏 Home 😀❤
It looks delicious. Is it possible to swap the cornstarch with ground chia seed?
❤
Chef John hi just asking where i can get your recipe book and how much 😁❤
My 8 year old loves watching your videos and he loves desserts. Unfortunately, he was just diagnosed with celiac and now we are on a new food journey with him. Do you have any videos of any kinds of cookies or cakes that are gluten free?
Hi John, I realize this comment isn't germane to the strawberry pie, but I tried several times baking cakes using the cake strips. The cakes definitely turn out much softer around the edges, but it is a bit tricky applying the frosting without tearing the sides of the cake. Perhaps using a piping bag would be better around the sides of the cake layers.
Or you can chill the layers before frosting so they are firmer :)
Im thinking strawberry tarts. 😊
I purchased clear jel powder for (something). I cannot remember what for. Can I use this instead of the cornstarch in this and other recipes? I seriously need to figure out what I had in my head at the time lol!
cool
