- This easy bolognese sauce recipe is so good! Rich, thick, and perfectly creamy, this meat sauce is a comforting meal to serve a crowd on chilly evenings or any time of year. Double the recipe to freeze for later! Bolognese sauce is an Italian meat sauce with a creamy twist. Also called ragù alla bolognese, it differs from other meat sauces and plain tomato sauce because it contains sweeter ingredients like carrots, as well as a cup of milk for luxurious creamy bites. A generous sprinkle of freshly grated parmesan at the end ties everything together for the perfect pasta dinner.

I love this guy. I don't need this recipe but he just has good energy 😊
We do indeed LOVE Mr. C
Same! I just love listening to him and the way he interacts with the camera is just so fun.
I do need this recipe. I love any kind of pasta.
Yeah! He looks like such a sweet person. There's a Mexican lady who lives in the US and works with her husband. They're darlings too. Their channel is called Jauja Cocina Mexicana 😊
I have tried so many of John's recipes and they all come out fantastic! He is my go-to for all recipes but I especially love his baking recipes.
Hi I’m Elena I love bolognese sauce I make bolognese at my mom’s house she helps me sometimes she came back from Italy and she learned how to make pasta and pomodoro sauce because she went to a cooking class in Italy and went she came back she taught me went she got home how to make her pomodoro sauce
Onions, carrots and celery, the holy trinity of European sauces.
Coincidentally, this video came up on my feed while i was eating a portion of bolognese i found in the freezer. 😂
Thank you for your version of Bolognese! Whenever I make my Italian sauces I leave the bay leave in. And during dinner I announce that whoever gets the bay leaf has to do the dishes! Ha ha! I rarely enforce it, especially if a guest is the victim. It just a silly thing I like to do. 😁❤❤
Love your recipes but most of all I love your honesty in the kitchen.
Curious, what is he being honest about? I’ve never heard him lie.
This turned out bomb 👌 kiddos & adults approved
The visceral reaction to the garlic press is exactly why I love your channel haha!! Probably one of my favorite cooking inventions.
Everything I have ever made from his recipes are fantastic!
Heck yes
Maybe I should go to the store, I feel like I should make this
We have a chill here today from the thunderstorms. I think this will be perfect. Thank you.
Every dish remotely connected to italian cuisine will always attract the people talking smack in the comments. It’s crazy
Truth. Funny how a lot of countries all over the world make pasta with tomato sauce of some sort. Same with rice, every country has a rice dish and some kind of meat in dough type of food. A nan, a taco, a pita, a cracker - it's all a piece of bread.
So true. As someone with Italian ancestry, Italians just have this really weird superiority complex when it comes to food. If someone doesn’t cook EXACTLY the way they want them to, they throw a hissy fit. It’s almost as if cooking is an art that can be customized, and not everyone has to cook a dish in the traditional Italian way. Who would’ve thought?! 😱
The Italians just can’t help themselves
Which is exactly why watching Bolognese videos and reading the comments is my favorite way of spending time. I do make mean Bolognese sauce myself as well.
Proper Italian food made in Italy by PROPER ITALIANS bears no relation to the crap you yanks serve up..Don’t blame the Italians for speaking up.
In my opinion, Bologna is the capital of Italian food. So many delicious food. I make my ragù with 50% beef and 50% pork. Thanks for all your wonderful recipes. My husband has baked a few since I’ve been following your channel, and they were all to die for. Thank you. Eric
I agree. Beef + pork.
I made this with fettucine, diced canned tomatoes, and heavy cream. It came out amazing. I couldn't believe a recipe without any strong spices in it would be so good. And it makes a ton of food too.
Yay! A new video from John! ❤
This looks seriously good. I like your dessert recipes but these are the kinds of practical videos I adore. Thank you for posting!
I like to use Coconut Cream instead of heavy cream. ( NO milk of half half,,too much sugar ) Your recipes are great. This is tomorrows dinner. A few days ago, i made the delicious NO BAKE strawberry pie. Easy and so good. My lucky neighbor gave it rave reviews too. Thank you for all you do.
👍👍
This is so similar to how I make bolognese! Except I use TVP soaked in vegetable broth and a bit of marmite instead of the meat for a plant-based version and add a liberal amount of dried Italian herbs in the end, sometimes a bit of fresh basil if I have some. One of my favorite dishes!
Thank you! I've been looking at recipes for this so naturally the algorithms sent you to me. I make my pasta noodles from scratch, so this sauce will definitely help me show off!!
I’m having a chicken potato soup I saw on your channel in the afternoon from 2 years ago. 🙏👌🏿 your the King 👑
This was amazing!!
Mmmmmmm! This looks like the most appetising bolognaise I’ve ever seen! I will certainly give this a shot.
Sofritto is the veggies cooking in the pan at the beginning, and every time I smell it, I go back to my nonna cooking for me or my dad, and it brings so many happy memories!! Bolognese is easily my favorite sauce, top 1 forever 😂 Thank you for the video! I just found your channel and I'm subscribing! I love Italian cuisine
Easy to prepare. Awesome!
I didn't realize you didn't add spices 😅 I also add chili flakes, oregano (when it's done and off the heat), and pepper. Yumm!!! And my nonna told me to well, add the oregano at the end so it's not bitter.... and to avoid water and sugar. You just have to cook it for at least an hour and you wont need any of that, she says 😂🥰🥰
Great video John😊😊
Amazing recipe thank you! 🙏🏻
Very delicious recipe❤❤❤❤Thanks for sharing
Off-topic but what is the brand name of your shirts? Love them!

Yum! Can’t wait to try this! 😋

Looks delicious 😋
Thank you for the video!
I made this yesterday. I didn’t have carrots and only had two cloves of garlic. Used half ground beef and half ground pork. It was delicious. Thank you! Will be making this again.

There's no problem freezing the sauce with the pasta. Still tastes yummy when defrosted and re-heated.
Love you lots John
Nice 👌🏻
Will make this on Sunday! I would add red pepper flakes and anchovies.
That is the right way ,congradulation .
If we Italians had used, in conflicts, half of the bellicosity we show in comments about our cuisine, we would have won all the wars fought on Earth.
Awesome recipe chef, please show piecaken recipe please please 🥺
I just pre ordered your upcoming book! PLEASE make a rainbow bundt cake tutorial video 🥺
hahaha! I love that you thank the bay leaf!
Top tip, add a tsp of salt to your vegetables at the start. This will bring out some of their liquid and so intensify flavour.
Sehr schön Video 💕🌹❣️
cool
I may give this a whirl if i don't have the proper amount of time, looked good
Great recipe! Just some advice: add salt throughout the process. For example add some salt to your mirepoix and after you added the tomatoes.
Did you upgrade your camera? The image is super sharp! Great job!!!
You have very nice knife skills
👍👍Cutting the onion at 1:14 displayed some awesome skill
Bolongese recipe thousands of variations you can make according to the ingredients you can find in your kitchen at any certain time .always useful though 👌
3 hours John phew steamy hot kitchen looks delicious though ❤️😊👍🏻
Silly me. When I saw this appear, I thought, "HOORAY! Bolognese that doesn't take all afternoon!" Oh well.
Looks delish John. Thanks for a good choice for a rainy day.
why didn't you fry the tomato paste first before adding the canned tomatoes?
I love that thick pasta -- it's so perfect for this meaty sauce!
yay
Hahahah "Blaaaaand"! Can't wait to make this!
I’ve watched you for years, not because I cook or bake (I don’t, I basically survive on trail mix and takeout) but bc the world has gone insane and you remind me that some people are safe. I hope that’s true and you never show up on some police report doing something unsavory. 😅🙂🥘😵🏴☠️
Thank you for sharing this. Can you please write the name of the pasta!
Do you have particular brand for garlic presser ?
My Uncles was totally different. It was a wine based sauce. No tomatoes. It differed from village to village.
What brand is the garlic press?
Garlic press is another thing to wash up and it only uses 60%of the clove. Just mash it with the side of the knife
What brand of tomatoes do you use?
I always use red wine, and since I'm not really a drinker, I use the whole bottle.
Love your videos, have made many of your recipes. I have a bolognese recipe I have been using for years. All of the same ingredients minus the garlic. I’m curious why everyone thinks all Italian food should be loaded with garlic. We Italians do not put tons of garlic in all of our dishes. Just saying
OK, this was your easy Bolognese. But I hope to also see your involved, demanding variant!
3 hours?! 😮 I hope this works in a slow cooker or maybe I could do some of the prep work in advance because I don't have 3.5-4 hours to prep and cook on a regular weeknight 😢
Cook a big batch on the weekend and dinner is done for the week
Hey there! I've been struggling for years to find something like Onion that's not really onion. I'm actually allergic to onions from the supermarket and most anywhere they sell them. Got any advice for substitutes?
Plz do a Asmr baking video ? Plzzzzzz😢
