- "The Harvest," is episode 3 of Rory's weekly online and television docu-series, "This Life I Live," which first aired in 2020. It is based on the widely-read personal blog (www.thislifeilive.com) that Rory has been writing for many years. The new series continues to capture and share their family's journey through life both on and off their family farm in middle Tennessee.
This episode is the story of the one-room schoolhouse that Rory and the community came together to build for his daughter, Indiana, and lots of other little ones who go to school there.

This should be the blueprint for all children's education, no matter the age. Kudos Rory!
Rory, it was Joey's wish to homeschool Indiana, but it was your dream to build a school for her. Children with Downs Syndrome are very unique and very loving. What you have done for your sweet girl brings tears to my eyes. They are a gift to all of us. They teach us patience, how to be gentle and accepting and most importantly how to love. Joey is guiding you from up above and thinking what a great job of raising your daughter.
I used to be a secretary at an elementary school in Georgia. My school had about 100 students with different kinds of handicaps. They would wheel their chairs into my outside wall to get my attention. I would stop and go out to greet and hug them. I asked if thy were being good to their teacher. They wanted me to make sure I saw each of them throughout the day. I feel God put me there for a reason to make sure they were heard and loved. Most people do not make the effort to greet or speak to children that are different. I never wanted to do that to any child, handicapped or not. Children just want to be loved, accepted and heard. You are doing an amazing job with little Indiana. She is a gift from God and meant to be treasured.

Rory, up until a week ago, I didn’t know You or Joey. I accidentally watched one of your older vlogs. That started my binge watching. Your vlogs have put me through an emotional roller coaster.
I’m 71 years old. I can’t figure out why such wonderful people pass in such cruel ways before their time.
I feel I’ve gotten to basically know your family. I would have been so proud to have Joey as my daughter. She had such amazing qualities. What ever she set her mind to do, she did.
The unfaltering faith she had in God was truly amazing.
In 1994 I experienced my sister passing in a similar way. I’ll never get over the loss. She like your beautiful Joey, was bigger than life.

What a beautiful story! I too, didn't know anything about Joey and Rory until I picked up his book at a store by accident.
We might not understand life and the lost of our dear ones.
The bible said, in the book of Romans 8:28
We know that in all things God works for good of those who love him, who have be called according to His purpose.
As I am writing this comment, I am close to losing my sister-in-law also to cancer. I might not understand the reason but I believe in God, His love for us, His words. In times, God will reveal His purpose for us.
Take Rory's story, He lost Joey to cancer but all are not lost because of his faith, he truly have peace in his life and I bet, he believes one day, he will see and spend eternal life with his beloved Joey in Heaven.
Susan, sorry for the lost of your sister. I hope you are a believer. Jesus die for you and me so we can have life to the fullest if anyone accept Him into their lives.
Only through Jesus, the truth will set anyone free!
Free from depression, unhappiness, loneliness and so on...
Seek Him first and His Kingdom and all these things will be added to you.

What a lovely thing, to have a school right on the homestead. Our two youngest children, Sam, 9 and Addie, 8, both have beautiful almond eyes like Indy. We adopted Addie from China when she was 2 years 8 months. We watched her take her first steps a month after her 3rd birthday. Our son Sam was adopted 11 months after Addie at age 3 years 4 months. He had started walking right before his 3rd birthday. Unlike Indy both have been delayed in speaking (they understand everything - picked up English faster than most typical kiddos) but this year they’ve both made huge progress. How I’d love for them to go the wonderful school you’ve built for your daughter. Bless you both💙
My aunt has down syndrome and even though she can't read or write she is awesome at video games. She beats me at them every time

I really enjoyed watching all those little kids in their little outfits. Indy’s excitement with her dress was amazing. I love how they say their prayers and the Pledge of Allegiance. I know they all enjoyed that day. Kudos to the teacher for coming up with that idea because who doesn’t love Little House on the Prairie right? Such a simpler life. We all need to work together like this. I been reading alot of Amish books lately. When my husband gets home in 6 months,we want to find a cabin and a lil piece of land. That is oir prayer.
Jody Burke there is a Amish community in a place called the West Kootenia in Lincoln county MT they have a small general store and one room school. They have a lot of English as they call us that live up there. It’s one of the most beautiful places on this earth.

This is So Wonderful!
My Son went to a one room school house for 5 yrs til our entire mountain town burned down! There were 17 kids, kindergarten thru 6th, & alot of parents pitched in to help the teacher daily! I'm so grateful we both had that opportunity. It was like a big family for my only child, being raised from birth by a single mom. I home- schooled him after the town burned down, until he started Highschool. Indi is so blessed to have so much love!
This series truly lifts my soul. This is God' s vision for our earthly life, each one of us lifting up another in whatever way we can. I believe The Good Lord will continue to bless us with this earthly life as long as we show Him that our goodness outweighs our evils. He wants us to succeed, but he expects us to make the choices. He will hold us accountable for our choices! He works thru each of us, every day. Thank you Dear Jesus, for this beautiful blessing.

I cried a bucket watching this beautiful living. I couldn't help feeling this is the life God created us to live but instead man listened to the enemy and lived a miserable life. I feel Rory would still live so contented even if he only had a shack and a little garden. Thank you for revealing true living through your stories Mr Feek. Indy is truly blessed to have a daddy like you. She's growing tall and always beautiful and a Ray of sunshine to watch. That community radiates pure love, joy and peace. It has nothing to do with us not listening to G-d or anything else. We as humans went through a technology revolution. We have had medical advances in the last 50 years that took us 1,000's of years up to that point. That little baby Boone in the Feeks farm cemetery that was buried in 1800's would have not lost their life had they been born 100 years later. We wouldn't have the vehicles that you probably use daily to get to work or run ur errands. Life is what u make it. If u want to live in a shack, plant a garden or use a horse & buggy for ur transportation-that is ur right! But, don't fault us that drive Tesla's, or use technology to diagnose what ails you.

It was such a thrill to see "Little House" Day on Instagram earlier this month, and what a wonderful opportunity for the students of Hardison Mill School to live like the Ingalls family for the day. As we deal with the current reality of our schools being shut down, I can't wait to share this episode with my families for them to watch. Because I teach special education, my students will most certainly relate to the challenges and success of Indy learning how to walk! We use the same equipment! Hopefully it won't be too long before we are all able to return to school and continue enjoying more active learning! Thanks for the upload!

I love watching your story, and such a beautiful one. It is sometimes hard to move on after losing a loved one especially a spouse. You are living proof that it can be done, and done well. Your precious Indy is so blessed to have such a loving Papa, who goes to great lengths to give her the best in life. My soul has been blessed by the sharing of your family's life story. I went to a one room schoolhouse back in the 70’s, and loved it! I loved that school. What an awesome Dad you are.
I grew up watching Little House and The Walton's...so many good life lessons in those shows.
She is so gosh darn precious, during these trying times we all need a lil bit of sunshine and warmth to our hearts, you must be so proud of her. Like you, I lost my young husband to ALS at the age of 42, I miss him still and miss my other home (Fort Worth, Texas) someday I will return. I hope your life is filled with happiness and many other beautiful things. My happiness comes from many things and places, my family, my nieces and nephews, hiking, our beautiful beaches and sand dunes. I believe your wife watches over you and Indianna. I was a child that grew up at the Shriners Hospital and because of parents that said I could be who ever I wanted to be, I felt no different from others. I can see the hearts YOU ALL HAVE that just see a precious child who can do anything she wants and that my friend is all the difference it takes.. Just lots of LOVE..

This schoolhouse is beyond awesome. You and Joey have done such amazing work teaching and raising Indy. She has so much heart, joy and courage. How wonderful the Lord provided the amount of money needed to build the school on your property. What a dream. I love Little House on the Prairie too, this episode just made my heart so full.
