The only thing that confused me, is the phrase “shortlist” clearly doesn’t mean the same to me as it does to you.
I agree, I had to watch again to make sure I understood what Charlie meant. His use of short list means do not buy the watch if you want to flip it for a profit.
Shortlist means the opposite of what he said!! Very confusing!
I made the same point. He clearly doesn't understand the term.
I think the video lists several Rolex models that are becoming “shortlisted”, which means they are not expected to appreciate in value and may even decrease in price.
@@justreallygood yes that’s what the video says, but that’s not what “shortlisted” means in common English parlance. In fact you could argue it’s the opposite of what most people would understand a shortlist to be.
Fingers crossed people actually start buying them to wear now. Not just flip them. Got so sick of it in recent years. Have my Rolexes and enjoy them. Always have. For 20 years now !

I’m 53. When I was a young boy I used to watch my grandfather repair Rolex watches. I was fascinated with them and on a Sunday I’d watch him and would show me how they worked. He said they were instruments put together to last a long time and for me it never left me. Even long after he died. it was magical.
I was proud to have bought my first when I was 28. After a lot of hard work. Was an achievement.
It’s sad how it has all ended up. It’s all just about making money now.

Reference to “shortlist” is confusing. Unless you mean a shortlist for those who want to buy and wear because the prices for the models you spoke about are falling?
No Rolex is a buy anymore, you can no longer wear a Rolex in our lawless country! Just buy yourself a Casio unless you want your hand cut off. So sad. 😢
And that is the real reason why Rolex prices are collapsing, the watch market is dead.

Just stop buying watches to “get ya spend up” and “if you’re buying to make a profit” buy it wear it and if at a later date you want to sell it to get another watch then do it. Just expect it to lose money like all other normal things. The whole industry has turned into a complete piss take.

I honestly expect that by the end of the year the black bezel steel submariner is going to be on this list. If not, then Rolex will take care of it by raising the price again in January 2025. And that is a good thing. People should do something useful with their time, not suck up to jewlery shop employees in order to get watches they can flip...

I think nearly every watch mentioned in this video is already below retail price, just do some basic research and you get these watches cheaper

I love the dssd JC. I own a mark1. Before this stupidities of wait lists. Looks he is talking about potatoes and tomatoes. I have been collecting for 30 years and never sold a watch. He talks like a guy at the Saturday night bingo game. Hate this. Enjoy your Dssdjc. He speaks only about Rolex because he never tried any other more refined watches.

The COVID bubble has burst. You can buy the GMT CHNR at very close to list now in the US. It was nearly $30k in 2022. Won’t be long before it’s under list. This doesn’t mean that the market is dead, but I think by end of year it will be back at 2020 levels where only a select few watches are in demand. I will say it’s cool that Charlie tells it like it is . A lot of dealers are acting like it’s still 2022!
Also, my mate was in Bermuda and got a 5% discount at an AD for a diamond dial DJ 41 fluted. When was the last time ADs were giving discounts?
lol yeah my local gray market dealer was trying to push the Sub No Date on me at $12.5k. I said prices were coming down and he said no, only up from here.

@@nextlife2230I can’t predict where prices will go, but I sense that many Rolex models will go lower on the grey market. Partly due to Rolex increasing production, and partly due to collectors starting to use their uncommon sense to wait until they see a decent price.
The Rolex market will never be ‘dead’. Hopefully the chance to deprive someone who wants to wear one just to flip it online for a profit is dead.
Great video. Nice to see prices continue to fall. People buying now are literally catching a falling knife 🔪 🤕 best to sit tight and lowball the watches you want until an offer is accepted. Makes no sense to overpay. The days of get watches at retail from resellers is just ahead.

I don't think you understand what the term 'shortlist' means. Regardless, interesting information. It would be nice if you'd stop saying anything other than 100% when 100% is what you mean.
Good times for buyers. I just got a call from my A.D. and purchased a 36 Date just blue dial - fluted bezel - on a jubilee bracelet for my wife. The A.D. said sales are slowing as the grey market buyers are exiting the market.

So what? The point of buying new from an AD- is that they are new - untouched and you know the history. Also most importantly that you are not buying a fake! And even the pro dealers get fooled lots of times. And the more expensive Rolex you want to buy all these factors become more important to consider. I only buy from AD’s!
I wanted to start collection from SS Submariner and was forced to buy it from grey. The watch appeared to be with a big scratch which I couldn’t properly asses been “green” in the topic. To my luck, I sold it even for a higher price on the more than a year ago. Second watch I bought from grey is SS 116500LN. I just wanted SS Daytona and had zero desire to wait it from AD. All other watches I buy only from AD. I like the experience, watch talks, spending time in boutiques, etc.
The so what is “when secondary market prices drop there will be more available at retail.”
No one is going to buy at retail plus tax and then flip for last years retail.

@@fj7509 not a great analogy. Gray market dealers also go broke suddenly and you just bought a $100,000 watch but it never shows up. Buying from an AD is less risky obviously. Watches that are polished are also worth less .. or could have been damaged -

Hi Charlie, are there any particular models you are being offered more than others with 2024 purchase dates on.
For example are there more op’s or Dj’s coming through compared too GMT’s or Subs?
Absolutely, Rootbeers, Datejusts and Submariners so far 👌🏻
Here in the states there are still lots of models trading well above retail.
The Root Beer in new condition is still 3-4K USD above retail.
The stainless steel Submariners are still 3K USD to 4K USD depending on if you get the date or no date.
The stainless steel GMTs are still 5K to 13K USD above list depending on if it’s the Batman or Pepsi.
The only Daytona under list is the two tone, all other Daytonas, even full gold ones, are above list price here ):

Every rolex should fall below retail once outside an AD. Just like cars
then nobody would want to buy them and they d be like omegas, breitling, JLC, even most vacheron. The fact that Rolex watches are unobtainium is an integral part of the appeal, tahts why I love Rolex so much. I dont want a watch that anyone can just walk into a store and buy; nobody wants that.

Motif’s are confirmed as discontinued. My AD has moved my preference to another dial very recently due to the discontinuation.

I think this is natural selection. When the market returned to normalcy - it dropped what are typically niche watches to reasonable prices again. The super desirable ones will always be super desirable.

Hi Charlie, thank you for the update. In your latest videos, you haven’t mentioned TT Daytona 126503 with black diamond dial. My wife bought me the one from our AD in the airport today. I can’t wait to put it on a wrist and see the dial in detail, but need to wait until weekends. I already have in my collection 116500 LN black dial and 126503 white dial. I’m curious about your thoughts on this watch. I didn’t have anything with diamonds in my collection before.

Problem is even under reail price the authorised dealer will not sell us this watch...only if you buy them before 200000$ of other watch so...

Also if the watch is damaged - over wound - or polished - the cost to have Rolex to repair or polish the watch will cost you often $1,900 plus. These watches are not investments. Even if bought from an AD at msrp. Sales tax makes it hard to make profits also. I buy a Rolex new - What is attractive is that the constant increases in msrp each year eventually in say five years you can sell it for what you paid. If Rolex increases their production all the models will decrease in value like a used car - when you walk out of the AD. But in a number of years the resale value will equal your cost so it is not money wasted like it is on previous stone jewelry.
There is no money long term in watches. History tells you that putting money into the stock market yields you way better returns and watches lose you money, period.
Absolutely, the annual price increase does help prop up the value over the long term. 👌

I dont know what country your in and respect your opinion but in the USA you cant find any mens rolex's below dealer prices especially the popular ones like Datejust, there are 2-3K above dealer pricing. I am sure there a few anomaly models that may drop but generally the demand is outpacing the supply
He's in the UK, ADs here are falling over themselves to offer DJs, especially precious and two tone.
Ah yes a direct market than over in the USA, maybe the UK market trends will carry over to the US at some point 🙌

Great video! After being on a waitlist for years for a sub or Batman, I'm actively trying to purchase an SD43 on Chrono. I keep seeing videos that these can be procured below retail. But I am seeing over retail for all model years except for surprisingly the Mark 1 2017 versions. All the used watches I'm seeing are also polished which I believe would impact the value of the watch if I trade it in in the future. I try to negotiate but having no luck to get below retail. Any advice?
Yes so best to avoid polished examples as quite rightly will impact the value later on.
With Chrono24 there are high selling fees involved, so prices on there are considerably more than the true market value than if you were to go to the dealer direct.
