Yeah, I'm unfortunately getting the same feeling as you, that this isn't going to have a proper ending. It feels like the writers didn't know how much longer the comic would last, and they didn't want to risk wrapping it up prematurely. But if an anthology was on the table, that's one thing that could have been done even after wrapping it up - a very weird decision to do it at this point.
