Hello everyone (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ here are my favourite books of all time (as per Oct 2020)! Look, if I was a nonchaotic person who had my life together, maybe this would be a clean 10 books. Or 15 books. Instead, I bring you a whopping 23 (which does not include the two books I ended up cutting when I was editing--bc the video was going to be way too long--and the honourable mentions i chucked in like 'Killing Commendatore' and 'Ocean At the End of the Lane')
I find it really interesting how many of these books are different to the ones included in my last favourite books video! There's heaps of fantasy, sci-fi, speculative, contemporary and non-fiction books here--so hopefully you find something to add to your TBR. I hope you enjoy the video and have a lovely day!

My personal favourites are The Picture of Dorian Gray, Frankenstein, Les Miserables, The Never-Ending Story, The City of Dreaming Books, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, Why Read the Classics, We Have Always lived in the Castle, The Secret Garden, Rebecca, Doctor Zhivago, Jane Eyre, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, The Importance of Being Earnest and The Crucible! :)
Oooh there's so many on this list I really really like! I'll need to check out the others. thank you so much 😊💛
FINALLY someone who knows and loves The city of dreaming books! 😍
@@Tabbyhenne Are you German by any chance? Or is it known outside of Germany?🖤
@@resa_reads Yes I'm German. I think it's been translated into several languages but unfortunately it's not that well-known abroad.
Frankenstein is my all-time favorite, and Rebecca, and We have Always Lived in the Castle are also on my favorites to read! Great list!
You're the first booktuber who has mentioned Howl's Moving Castle book and it makes me so happy!! I love LOVE that world and characters.. certainly a favorite of mine as well.
You provide the best plot descriptions of books out of all the booktubers I've watched. Most booktubers are so vague and will just gush about how much they love/hate a book, but you actually go into a good amount of depth, enough to make me want to pick up a book. Thank you!
Thank you so much 💛😭
Yes--agree with OP here--thank you for joining CZcams--You are needed!
Thank you so much for this video! I've been lacking reading motivation lately (only got 14 read out of my goal of 20 in 2020) but this had so many new books to me and I can't wait to read them!
I added so many of this to my tbr list, they look like the exact kind of books i love!!!
I love your selections - definitely have some new books to try out! I almost screamed when Pachinko popped up because I am actually organizing a book club for our Asian Studies department at my Uni right now with it as our first selection :) I've already read it but I love sharing with people about how important of a book it is!
Oh wow, we have so many favorites in common! And the rest are all on my TBR! I absolutely loved The Ocean at the End of the Lane, All the Light We Cannot See and Never Let Me Go. Sapiens is probably my favorite nonfiction, and I am going to read A Room of One's Own next!
Thank you so much for this list. I realized I haven't read quite a few books you mentioned. Will start buying them over the course of this year.
I just finished reading The Windup Bird Chronicle. I think I love it but it’s one of those books that you need to think about for a long time haha. You did a good job of explaining the plot, every time I try to explain it to someone I literally cant
I don't know you, but sometimes you just start a video and you know that there is something... Fact that you lived in Tokyo and have close relationship with Japan, the books you read.... I immediately fell in love with your videos... I subscribed and now I am going to watch them all :D Happy to be here before 100k!
Some of my favourites are: Adeline (Norah Vincent), Possession (A. S. Byatt), The Essex Serpent (Sarah Perry), Pride & Prejudice, Far from the Madding Crowd, The Bell Jar, The Great Gatsby.
Thank you!!! I'll check them out (The Bell Jar / Gatsby are wonderful) 💛
What a wonderful list! Both Frankenstein and Anne of Green Gables are favourites of mine as well :) I also adore Coraline and Howl's Moving Castle; we seem to have quite similar taste in books :)) I'm planning to get into Murakami towards the end of the year since I was gifted Killing Commendatore for my birthday, so I'm glad you think it's a suitable first foray into Murakami's works! Thank you for the recommendations, I added The Bloody Chamber to my reading list. And thank you for your beautiful content, it's been brightening my days for years! I'm a bit of a silent subscriber but your videos truly always put a smile on my lips :) Greetings from Germany
Thank you so much!! I hope you like Killing Commendatore 💛💛😊
I just love listening to you talking about books. 😍☺️
I recently read „the Magic toyshop” and was blown away! So raw and beautiful in the same time. Thank you for the recommendation :) I’m going to keep discovering Angela Carter, she’s on the top of my list with Daphne du Maurier now ❤️
I'm so happy you liked it!!! It's a beautiful book and I want everyone to read it 💛😭
So many of these are on my tbr. Educated, frankenstein, graveyard book, ocean at the end of the lane, all the light we cannot see. My current favourites are The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave, also the handmaids tale, coraline, all that I only just read this year ❤
It’s crazy how we love similar books I never met Booktuber with so similar book taste as me! Have an gorgeous day down there! 💜
Graveyard Book is my favorite Neil Gaiman as well!
Yay!! Thank you 💛💛 The Graveyard Book is such a beautiful book 😊
Just read the graveyard book on your recommendation and let me tell you I absolutely loved it! It's so beautiful and mystical and altogether amazing! So thankyou :D
I'm currently brushing up my English so I've decide to watch book-related videos because I really wanna focus on reading rn and I find your accent so lovely... I don't tend to listen to British accent as much as I do for Americans, hence, I'm enthralled! Thanks a lot. (I'm sorry if I misspelled something)
Thank you for this lovely video...😘 English is not my first language so I still study and practice everyday. I am the type of person who learn languages by reading many books and I think the books you recommend will help me a lot🤩..! hope u have a great night😘
your english is very good!
truely newer ! because i,m look understand
That was a great video. I get to know about a lot of new books from your videos so these videos are very helpful. ❤️
I'm so glad you liked the video 💛
Every book I have read at your recommendation I have loved (we apparently have similar taste in books). Thank you for a few more to add to my TBR ❤.
My favorite books are Howl's Moving Castle, Wuthering Heights, the Mushi Shi manga series, Pachinko, Island of the Sea Women by Lisa See, and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
I have read some of them from your list, and a few them were recommended by you! such as "Norwegian wood", "Educated" and "The Handmaid's Tale" etc. The one that made an indelible impression on my mind is "Norwegian wood". After finishing reading it, my mind was hijacked for a few days by the imagery of the novel! Thank you for your recommendation and insight! Wishing you a happy autumn (or in your case, spring!).
Same! I was so captivated by Norwegian Wood. Such a beautiful novel. Thank you so much! Take care 💛
Agree with so many of these! Pachinko, Frankenstein, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Educated are some of my absolute favorite books. Definitely checking the rest of these out because we seem to have similar tastes! :)
You are so similar to Dakota Johanson
I remember consuming so many books when I was in elementary books. I read the whole Harry Potter series in one week, when I was in 4th grade lmao. Nowadays though, I don’t have as much time to sit back and read, although I do have a few favorites that I think you should read:
Airman, by Eoin Colfer
Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
Murder on the Orient Express by the Queen of Mysteries, Agatha Christie!
All of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books
Hatchet and The Voyage of the Frog by Gary Paulsen
A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, and Little Lord Fauntleroy by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Floating Islands by ???
Dinotopia (which is kinda like a picture book, and it’s art is AMAZING) by James Gurney
And a lot more haha
omg finally have found a CZcamsr which shares my love for some of these books thankyou they need appreciation
Happy to see Pachinko, such an amazing book!
I really like your recommendations, I've put a few on my TBR from this and I saved your vid for future reference :D I didn't know Howl was a book! Also, I'm getting Frankenstein from the library tomorrow so it was great to hear your thoughts on it, I wasn't too sure about it before but I thought I will give it a try and now after watching your video I can't wait to start reading it!
Yaay! I'm so happy you liked the video 💛😊

I started reading Neil Gaiman after your recommendations and I love them so much! Coraline and The Graveyard Book are so good.
I love your aesthetic.
Okay let me say one thing first YOUR CLOTHES ARE SOOOO CUTEE🥺
And nails too ! 😍
thank youuuuu 😭💛

Ohh, I read a lot of these books and love them too 🥰. I will definitely add the ones I don‘t yet to my TBR 🙏🏻
Also: super cute outfit 🧡
Oh, I am so late to watch you video. But i needed this video where you recommend your all time Fav. Love it 💕💕💕💕
Hey Christy and greetings from Greece! I found your channel recently and I love it! I'm a Greek booktuber and your videos are so enjoyable! I'm trying to watch them all and binge on them! haha
One of the books you showed us and I really want to read is Norwegian wood. I'm going to buy it soon. I also love Anne of Green Gables SO MUCH! I have watched the Netflix series but unfortunately Netflix production decided to discontinue it and this make me want to read the book more! One of my favorite books that I really recommend it is "My dark Vanessa". It's a really tough book as it talks about pedophilia and sex-abusement but it's so well-writtten that I think that you'll like it. I also recommend you to read "Little Women", a romantic and sweet classical book that I think that you'll love it. Keep going girl! You' re awesome! 💕

I recently added book theif to my fav book list. So worth the hype!
So surreal to hear you talking about Frankenstein when my essay on it at the uni of Adelaide for my English capstone is due on Friday! I’m focusing on how Shelley revises Paradise Lost in Frankenstein using a feminist lens :)
Oh that sounds so incredibly brilliant!! And omg I did the Gothic course at Adelaide Uni! That's how I found Frankenstein 💛 Hope your essay went well 😊
@@christy-anne-jones Thank you! I ended up getting 89 for the essay :) I must have missed the Gothic course in my study but it sounds incredible! This one was called Ways of Reading and was about applying different literary lenses to texts, we also read The Waves by Virginia Woolf for the course!
What a delightful book channel. I appreciate this professional content. You were suggested by YT.
You've got to see Porco Rosso! I think it's an absolute gem in the Ghibli catalogue and easily one of Miyazaki's most underrated films.
It's the only Miyazaki film I haven't seen!! I really need to watch it
I really love your videos, I just wish you would sort of give an age rating for the books you recommend. I really liked that you explained that stuff in Murakami’s books. It makes it easier to find clean books to read.
The Graveyard is one of the purest books I've ever read honestly
loved this video so much
Anne of Green Gables is my fav childhood book!
Me too!! ❤👩🦰
Do you have any other textbooks you could recommend for someone studying literature? I found the ones you mentioned quite fascinating and not enough people also read textbooks like I do so I can never really find a lot of recommendations for good ones to check out.
Lovely as always 😀
😊💛
You're a board gamer, too! Books and board games are 2 of my favourite things (and the primary subjects of my own CZcams videos - a few years back I made a video about Gaiman's The Graveyard Book!). Here are 10 of my favourite books:
1 - Any of the collections of Kurt Vonnegut's essays/speeches/letters (eg. "A Man Without A Country", "Palm Sunday", "Fates Worse Than Death", etc.)
2 - "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving
3 - "The Brothers K" by David James Duncan
4 - "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller
5 - a) The Sarantine Mosaic, and b) The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay
6 - "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo
7 - "Days Without End" by Sebastian Barry
8 - "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens
9 - "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy
10 - "Down to This: Squalor and Splendour in a Big-City Shantytown" by Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall
Have you read Didion's Play It As It Lays? Might interest you. 🥰
Thx for sharing your list. Looking forward to checking out your channel! Interested in boardgames but no idea how to get started.
@@JK-dk7en I have not read it, but I appreciate the recommendation! As for board games, if you search in CZcams for "gateway games" or "introductory games", those videos will bring up lots of great suggestions for people who are getting started in the hobby. Cheers! :)
Mine (in no specific order):
The Oath
The Grapes of Wrath
The Wind in the Willows
Beowulf
Animal Farm
Pilgrim’s Progress
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
The Magician’s Nephew
The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe
Someof my favourite books are Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Help, Wolf Hollow, Black Beauty, The Forgotten Garden and now Pachinko. It was your recommendation of Pachinko that made me read it and I cannot thank you enough. I literally felt like I knew these characters in real life. I would highly recommend The Winternight Trilogy to you. It is absolutely beautiful and I think you would absolutely love all three books.
winternight trilogy is lovely
@@demelzapoldark9640 I just finished the last book in the series late last night.
@@TJ-kz1ul i read it few months ago, was searching for witch books, and was delighted when i find it. i expected something else, but however was very happy with the story.

@@demelzapoldark9640 I found the books very disturbing and violent at times, but I could not put them down because of the beautiful writing and characters. =)
Fun fact: I can trace my entire experience in grad school back to the Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature. In 2012 I didn’t know there was any significant scholarship on fantasy as a genre, but a friend gave me the book for my birthday. At the same time I had moved to southeastern Idaho to start a teaching job. Flipping through the CCtFL, I found out that Brian Attebery teaches at Idaho State University, just an hour away from where I had just moved to. We started corresponding and it eventually led me to ISU for grad school (I’m currently working on my dissertation), I’ve published a few articles on fantasy abs sci-fi, I’ve become a regular attendee of the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts, and I even got to serve as the Editorial Assistant for the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts for a few years. And it all started with that copy of the Cambridge Companion, which I still regularly mine for ideas and resources for my scholarship. Very cool to see someone on BookTube has read it!
We have some similar tastes, but really they’re quite different. Regardless, I enjoyed the video! It was relaxing to watch and I enjoyed hearing what you thought about these books!
I love this so much!🤗🤗🤗💗💗💗
💛💛😊
I recommend The Humans by Matt Haig. So funny!
when you bring out Norwgian wood i almost cried!!!!
I just want to list down everything. 🥰 I love your favorite books.
What is your favorite book?
@@Morfeusm think I will start reading The Graveyard and Coraline. 😁
I’ve just bought frankenstein to read in november and i can’t wait because one of our family friends actually live in mary shelley’s house!
Seriously!?!?! That's so cool 😲
@@christy-anne-jones i know!! it has a plaque on the inside saying ‘shelley house’!
pls trust me when i say we have very similar tastes and that you must check out shadow of the wind! i love it so so much
A terrific unknown love story is "The Slave' by Issac Bashavis Singer. Too many books I love to write them all.
I always love hearing you talk about books. It just makes me want to read even more than I already do (and that is quite a lot) :) I just wanted to let you know that most Mormons (or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which is the name that we prefer) are not extreme like Tara Westover's family was. I am a member of that church and we actually highly favor education and believe that everyone should educate themselves as much as possible. Westover's father took a lot of things too far and sadly that meant she was not educated. Obviously many people have many different experiences with religion, but from my perspective, our church is an organization that is just trying to bring Light into the world through different methods like coming unto Christ and finding good things out of the best books.
My top 5 in no particular order: Harry Potter series, Anne of the Green Gables, The picture of dorian Grey, 7 husbands of evelyn hugo and the five people you meet in heaven. It changes from time to time as I read more.
I have yet to read Neil Gaiman’s, Margarett Atwood’s and more classics. I have their books in my shelves, so I’m definitely gonna get on with it.
I've only read one of these books - Anne of Green Gables, which I love. You have a lovely
spirit - if you're not a writer now you soon will be.
The character of Orlando was based on Vita Sackville-West.
Thank you so much~!!!
This really makes me wanna read Frankenstein so bad ahh
It's a brilliant book 💛
You should, its soooo good
Hey ! thanks for your recommandations ! I am currently reading Pachinko and it is wondeful so far haha i really love all the characters and it is so well written !! I started it yesterday evening and i cant put it down !!!i am eager to know what happens at the end

You have excellent taste! Educated blew me away...
I lived in Japan as well, thank you for so many books about Japan and Tokyo, would love to revisit it through books!
I'm so glad you mentioned Murakami, because I havent' come accross a lot of booktubers that speak of him so lovingly. I would totally recommend the trilogy 1Q84 if you have the time. I have issues with his representations of women too, but I can't help loving his prose, which is why I moved to Japan to study his work actually :)
I really really want to read 1Q84!! It's been on my list for the longest time 💛
Thanks ^^
You're so very welcome! 😊💛
Neil Gaiman 😍😍😍 Enough said!
He's so brilliant!
Where is your edition of green gables from? 😮😮
Coraline is the ultimate best 💙💙💙💙❤❤❤
Great list! I am writing a research paper on architectural representation in ghibli films and came across an interview in which miyazaki talks about howl's moving castle saying that- "I made this movie to show it to a young girl of 60. What makes this story wonderful is not that the spell is broken and sophie gets young again, but the fact that she forgets her age."
Innana, Lady of the Largest Heart is worth a look.
Please give This Tender Land by Kent Krueger a try. Would love to get your take.
My recent avorite is uncle silas 😌😍💜
A lot of your favourites are mine too! :) The Graveyard Book, Ocean at the end of the Lane, Never Let me Go. Although I hated Norwegian Woof to be honest ^^; the sex stuff was too straight-man wish fulfilment and weird for me.
Have you read anything from Terry Pratchett, think you will love him. ^.^
Check out The Left Hand of Darkness by Le Guin. She was so very far ahead of her time.
Wasn't Anne of Green Gables set in late 19th century?
Subscribed for Anne of green gables
Every video I catch myself trying to see what board games you have/are playing lol.
Hi, I'm new to your channel (I don't know if you already read this) I can recommend the daughter of smoke and bone trilogy. It's beautiful
I know that noone reallyy cares but my all time favourites are The 13 1/2 lives of Captain Bluebear (Walter Moers), Harry Potter (obviously), The Bookthief (Markus Zusak), To kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee), Call me by your name (Andre Aciman), The Song of Achilles (Madeline Miller), Homo Faber (Max Frisch) and The journey to the east (Hermann Hesse)

Well, the "monster" is technically the son Frankenstein, since he comes to life through Victor. I think it's totally appropriate to refer to him as Frankenstein.
plz do a review on 1q84 by murakami if you have read that....👍🌻
Glad you liked Orlando but you didn’t mention it was based on Vita Sackville West a friend of Virginia with whom they had a relationship. Vita Sackville West was herself an excellent writer who wrote novels, poetry, history of her family and inheritance as well as gardening at Sissinghurst. A fascinating character I’m sure you would enjoy her writings if you haven’t already found her. She too experienced the limitations of being female in that she was not allowed to inherit her homestead Knole because she was a woman. Would recommend her novel “ALL PASSION SPENT” in particular.

It’s actually interesting read if you google this topic 😉 The way CZcams counts and refreshes these are not simply real time especially on a new video! Hope this helps. Also some viewers can like video straight away so it doesn’t count their views yet. 😊
Good books never become outdated. If they become outdated it’s because they weren’t good books.
A book about Sapians isn't Non Fiction. Its debatable Science fiction because much of anthropology is sourced as theoretical archeology science.
Yehh! ...there's a lot of author's speculations & half-baked theories than science in the book.
