I grew up in a pretty turbulent home environment when I was a child. My one escape was seeing my counselor Kate who would take me to go ride horses, explore nature, and take time out of my crappy life as a kid to appreciate the true beauty in this world. At the end of our sessions together while she drived me back home, we would always listen to this song on repeat. Thank you Kate & The Rankin Family. Much love and appreciation. - Tim Update: It is with profound sadness that I must share that I was informed that Kate passed away on 10/14/22, just days after her 80th birthday. I can only say that her passing feels like a bright light of hope and love has been taken from this world. Anyone who knew Kate would tell you that if Kate knew you, she loved you. There are so few people in this world who have had the positive impact on young and old alike like Kate did. Kate changed lives. She left the world better than she found it. For that, my heart is a little lighter knowing that her beautiful soul is looking down from above. Now she gets to experience her love of nature from a different perspective - and what a better place to do it than in an eternal paradise? I am not writing this because I love Kate Kaster, but because Kate Kaster loved me. She will be with me always, and I hope I can live long enough to make her proud and give it my all to be the kind of loving and caring soul she was so that perhaps one day I would be able to hug her again.
what a beautiful and poignant memory to share. i wish you wellness and all the best in future! and i don't know if you will get... it was 2 years ago, your comment. haha. hope so

May 1968 I was conducting military exercises at Camp Wainwright in beautiful Alberta and I will never forget the welcome and kindness conveyed to us Brits by the locals and Canadians in general , like the song I Will never forget you.God bless Canada.🙌
Dad was born in 1933 in London on a glorious 3rd of June day. Served both countries after immigrating in 1959. He's not got many days left. Your message would make him smile. God bless you and God save the Queen.
This song cracks my top ten of all time list...and I'm a 37 year old dude in Law Enforcement with 4 kids who listens to everything from Eminem to heavy metal when i'm at the gym.. But this song is just gold. Thank you.
I remember playing this song about midnight Dec 1998 Christmas Eve after I heard my auntie had a stroke. A very kind friend lent me his vehicle from K country to Calgary to meet with family and I played the Rankins cd over and over and it gave me strength on that drive. The majestic mountains, silent road, stars in the sky. Only one on the road until the highway to the hospital. I still feel the same goosebumps and like I am back on that drive when I hear this song. My auntie did pass 4 days later. I am grateful I put family 1st as the fancy hotel didn't take kindly to me leaving the moment I heard at Xmas. Thank you to the Rankins for their talents. I have always loved they shared it with the world and have provided healing, dance and being proud to be Canadian and a Maritimer. ❤
Fare thee well, love, Fare thee well, love, Far away, you must go. Take your heart, love, Take your heart, love, Will we never meet, again no more? Far across, love, Far across, love, O'er the mountains, and country wide. Take my heart, love, Take my heart, love, No one knows the tears I've cried CHORUS So I'll drink today, love, I'll sing to you, love, In paupers glory, my time I'll bide. No home or ties, love, a restless rover, If I can't have you by my side. Oh come back, love, Oh come back, love, The sun and moon refuse to shine. Since I've gone, love, gone away, love, This lonely girl has had no peace of mind. CHORUS So I'll drink today, love, I'll sing to you, love, In paupers glory, my time I'll bide. No home or ties, love, a restless rover, If I can't have you by my side. Fare thee well, love, Fare thee well, love, Far away, you must go. Take your heart, love, Take you heart, love, Will we never meet, again no more? Will we never meet, again no more?

Gary Johnston , so right you are Gary it puts a strain on my mind to try and rationalize how any Government can turn a blind eye to how drugs are killing the kids in this country more than ww11 and it’s not a crisis?? Then what is?? The new designer drugs are more powerful than ever before and hook kids instantly!!!! So sad 😞
My heart goes out to all Raylene's family and friends and fans tonight as we all mourn this beautiful woman's life of love and laughter and song.!.God bless and comfort her dear children and husband with supernatural grace! I dedicate this song to my co-worker and co-humourist, Kim P. We worked switchboard together in 1992 at YRP and laughed until we cried. Kim introduced this song to me. I hope, that wherever you are Kim, life is nothing but beautiful for you and your daughter. Thank you for the laughter and the shoulder to cry on.
Last We Forget , I just came home from Remembrance Day services in Abbotsford, British Columbia and thought this is a song for today. God Bless Canada and all who died for us.
Oh my heart. Beyond a doubt these voices in this song is superb and when the camera moves to capture all five siblings with their harmonies...tears begin to flow.
I was living in Manitoba for 16 yrs...away from maritimes...then The Rankins launched and hit the radio....I moved home...every song made me homesick...I drove all the way home and sang along with the Rankins the WHOLE way!!!! I AM sorry for your loss.....and ours a well....
I'm a proud Cape Breton musician, The Rankins was one of and still my favorite music group of all time. If this song came out today, it will be an absolute hit! RIP Raylene, may your Spirit move on and touch others!
My beautiful sister died on the 16th of February 1997, she was a doctor and should have been a great pediatrician, taken from me too early. I miss her so much this song was played at her funeral. If you read this you sent her into eternity with true beauty and I love you for it. I cry every time I hear it but know she would be laughing at me x x x
The most powerful song ever. Never fails to raise the hair on the back of my neck at ~ 2:57. When I see closeups of Raylene and J-M my heart breaks that they're gone...
So many memories of listening to The Rankin Family in the car on holidays or longer journeys. I always dip into their music over the years and the songs take me straight back.
What a lose to our great country of Canada. And what a tragedy to a family who's missing more than a few talented individuals in their midst. God rest your soul Raylene. There's a special place in heaven for those with angelic voices.
I am Canadian. Such a touching song by Nova Scotia's own Rankin Family. Fare thee well love. I can understand this pandemic. But I and you cannot understand the actions of one who attacked our citizens. Our history told us of the resilience of the Acadians, the Compassion and Willingness to help their fellow man. My heart like many others hurts but we will overcome. We will never allow another's actions to take away from who we are. Today is a wee bit better than yesterday, tomorrow will be a bit better. Please feel free to join in and sing this together for we are one. ............Nova Scotia Canada stands with you. May Gods Peace, Comfort Be with you all. In Jesus name. Amen.
In 2005 we drove the Ceildh Trail on Cape Breton Island and came to the little village of Mabou, home of The Rankin family. Wonderful, we could take home a Rankin treasure from the very town they grew up. We stopped at their only store - The General Store - and proudly walked in asking the owner for a Rankin CD to take back to the west coast of Canada. The lady was bemused. She told us, if want a Rankin CD you will have to drive to Halifax to get it. But we fondly remember Michael Enright's very poignant interview with Raylene on the Sunday Morning edition of CBC Radio program in June 2012, just a few months before she died. Out of that, we have Raylene's final tribute to all of us - her CD - All the Diamonds. Indeed the family is a Canadian treasure and always will be.

Although this song can be seen as the parting because of the death. There is a double entendre here. Remember the Rankin's ancestors would have come from the British Isles possibly as early as the late 1600's - but most certainly as late as the early 1800's. Leaving family behind to go to the New World would most certainly have felt like the family members leaving were dying because considering the great cost - going back to visit was not an option. A two lovers parting....

This song is so achingly beautiful.
One of the most beautiful presentations of music and lyrics . Music lives forever
Fare thee well, love,
Fare thee well, love,
Far away, you must go.
Take your heart, love,
Take your heart, love,
Will we never meet, again no more?
Far across, love,
Far across, love,
O'er the mountains, and country wide.
Take my heart, love,
Take my heart, love,
No one knows the tears I've cried
CHORUS
So I'll drink today, love,
I'll sing to you, love,
In paupers glory, my time I'll bide.
No home or ties, love, a restless rover,
If I can't have you by my side.
Oh come back, love,
Oh come back, love,
The sun and moon refuse to shine.
Since I've gone, love, gone away, love,
This lonely girl has had no peace of mind.
CHORUS
So I'll drink today, love,
I'll sing to you, love,
In paupers glory, my time I'll bide.
No home or ties, love, a restless rover,
If I can't have you by my side.
Fare thee well, love,
Fare thee well, love,
Far away, you must go.
Take your heart, love,
Take you heart, love,
Will we never meet, again no more?
Will we never meet, again no more?
