Fishing a Park Lake on a busy hot evening

- I needed to wet a line so i headed to a local park lake. The park was busy with walkers, joggers, cyclists and people enjoying the sunshine and unfortunately included a man who was convinced everyone would like his loud music!! More people should fish their local park lakes, if you have one locally, as they can offer great fishing!
Well that was a very enjoyable session. If it had been more peaceful it would have been perfect! So lessons learned were that feeding hemp kept the fish on the bottom where bites were easier to hit. Hard pellets gave plenty of bites but less confident than maggots and soft pellets caught a better stamp fished over hard pellets and hemp. I might try a banded hair rigged pellet or maggots next time and not bother with ground bait. I did not need the shallow light rig as I was able to keep the fish down but that can change on the day. I also want to experiment with different bread feeds fishing punches bread on the hook. Bill

Bill just started watching your videos I am from America sadly but I am getting old and really enjoy the easy fishing videos and have learned a lot from you never seen anyone use those kinds of poles and baits really cool I can see why you have so many followers and fans your videos are peaceful and informative very well done thanks for going through all the hard work filming your fishing adventures and sharing them with the world and as you say tight lines love that phrase !

I had a walk around my local lake the other day I thought I was in a different country people breaking all the rules having barbecues swimming in the lake drinking all sorts and smoking all sorts I used to love fishing that lake used to be able to stay until dark some days not anymore not safe it's so sad .

Ever since Lockdown all it's done is bring out the idiots that are never seen any other time of the year period .. I've seen an massive increase in litter on the cycle track , back roads and even in some fields .
And even on some of the local Golf course some people treat it like a public park .. footie , bikes dogs of the lead , prams you name it ..

Hi yes and on carp orientated waters the roach thrive on the excess carp bait and neglect from anglers. A local club lake has produced them to over 3 lbs and they are very rarely targeted, as most anglers are chasing the carp and cats! Bill

Hi this is a venue mostly fished by the bivvy brigade but in my experience these waters give excellent silver fish sport, as well as other species which tend to be ignored. Bill

Hi wheat seems to be one of the forgotten baits but still works well. I mostly use it on the rivers and find it a great bait for holding feeding fish in the swim. Bill

I have had a. Ole of incidents with mice in the garage, I now keep a couple of traps baited with peanuts or peanut butter as an indicator.

Hi Bill, i find it very hard to come away from fishing when it's like that, those 4-6oz roach soon start to build up a good weight and on light gear they are very addictive. Tight lines.

Just started fishing ! Whip and now moved to a pole. Came across you site as looking at beginners stuff and hooked ! Love watching you fish and you give lots of advice to us newbies. One question. Have to ask ... your whip/pole in this session what is it ? And how did you get in with your Leeda whip you got for Christmas ????? I am waiting for your review before buying one. Hi I'm glad you are enjoying my video's. Second question first it's not a Leeda whip but an NGT and as soon as the rivers are open again I will be testing that whip! The whip I was using is a 20 plus year old Daiwa Connoiseur X, 7 mtrs and with 3 sections telescopic and rest take apart like a long pole. This enables me to fish any length of line as a whip or short line like a pole. There is a modern version called the Air and all sections interchange and a cheaper version named the Connoiseur, same format but slightly heavier and built on a different Mandrel but most makers offer a version, some all take apart, others with a telescopic top 5. My choice if I had the money would be the Daiwa but cant afford or justify the cost, at the moment. Bill

Hi well hemp works well on the hook as does tares and pellets over hemp but on this day I was experimenting with other baits Bill

Bill said he was using ready prepared Sonubaits soft pro expanders to catch the better quality fish. (I've used them and they're a very good bait.)
Personally I though that was risky as carp like them as much as the roach do, and he wasn't set up for catching carp.
Hi I fished soft hookers over mostly hemp but feeding lightly so not to attract the pesky carp. I will carry on experimenting tho'. Bill

Nice video can I ask where you get the whip that is elasticated. The reason I ask is I am after a pole that I can use for roach etc. I have margin carp pole but feel that is to heavy
You can buy them from your tackle shop or look on eBay.
Peter just go to your local tackle shop they will stock them all you need is a 5metre whip,peter if you go on ebay there are some really good 4 and 5metre whips for less than £20 to be honest peter thats all you need for roach go on to youtube and watch whip fishing for beginners all you need to kniw peter,hope this helps,Alien
Hi well I was using a tele/take apart Daiwa whip, which has a telescopic top 3, the other sections are take apart. Daiwa, Drennan, Tricast etc list a couple of models like this but they are not cheap. Garbolino list a version of this, the Challenger, which I have seen on Ebay for about £80. An ordinary whip fished to hand would have been no good as the long line would have been affected badly by the wind and the control and presentation would have suffered! If you can't afford it just use a short pole with a light elastic, my Middy Muscle Tech makes a beautiful light pole even if it's listed as a carp hauler. I do wish that anglers would realise that just because a margin pole has Carp written on it, they make brilliant short poles for ALL fish. Bill

Bill never puts subtites on, you can use the CZcams ones but they're usually innaccurate rubbish.

cargilekm Yes u can but u have too ask a jew or afrikans those people actually eat them , i know this cause i worked at a fish deepfreeze Company who was selling roaches and brims .
We are not allowed to eat any fish caught from lakes like this one. Its catch and release.
Hi thank you. We do not eat coarse fish in the UK but eat game and sea fish as most water owners prohibit killing fish. Bill
The captions do not work but make for funny reading. Reads that you eat fish and catch a lot of ropes. Audio caption technology has still a long way to go.
