EASY FISHING. Bream, Roach and more Bream! Where are the Tench?

  • Still searching for a river Tench but they are notable by their absence! I set up in a swim where i had at least hooked one, hoping there were some more in the swim. I fished with some serious gear as i knew there were a lot of snags including an iron tube just subsurface and loads of cabbages. I managed two respectable Bream and some nice condition Roach on soft pellet and sweetcorn but no sign of the Tench, again!! However i know that with perseverance i will succeed, sooner or later.

    Nice one bill your looking well mate good session there I'm at the river wensun to think this river was fantastic for 4LB + roach once the cormorants from europe moved in in the late 70's early 80's they destroyed this river and many others it's about time we had a kull on these cormorants i carry a very high powered air rifle in my holdall i have shot dead 5 cormorants today and will continue to do so,lovely river the wensun chalk bottom home to some awesome barbel when i came here in the 70's john wilson said back then these cormorants will destroy are waters he was absolutely spot on i shot 121 cormorants last year so far this year 57,para

      Hi as a boy I fished both the Wensum and the Waveny but they are a mere shadow of the past. Comorants are a pain in my area but being near the head quarters of the RSPB no one shoots them and i have seen several local waters ruined by them! It's okay to shoot Ruddy ducks tho'!!! What a bunch of hypocrites. Bill

    Even if your loosing fish like you have said before that tackle is for fish from 10lb to high 25lb plus. For me size 12 elastic, 6lb main, 4lb hook length, 14 hook which is good for fish from 5lb to lower doubles, it's caught me fish to 12lb. Bait for Tench would have been sweetcorn and chopped worm over a bed of hemp.

    • @easyfishing1936
      @easyfishing1936  Před 4 lety

      Hi well given the size of fish I'm targeting, double figure tench, bream and huge carp, the amount of snags both natural in the form of lily beds, cabbages and man made rubbish the gear you talk about would be useless. The people who know this venue and comment on the video's and talk to me on the bank will confirm why I use such robust gear. In the winter I use much lighter gear but in summer you just loose fish after fish. This is why I use a heavy solid elastic as even with Drennan 25 there is enough stretch for the fish to get into the snags. Look at the video that I did last summer targeting tench to give you an idea of what I'm up against Bill

      A good tip to remove bream slime. Hold the line just above the hook and above where the slime ends. Pull the line taught and pluck it like a guitar string. All the slime flies off lovely.

    The ever elusive Tench. I've not caught one for over 15 years. It's all carp these days and I'm using the same baits I did back then, just the waters have changed. Good reaction there with the boat, I could see that going completely wrong so easily!

      Hi normally I manage to catch quite a few tench from this venue but it is tough this year. Try a feeder with a helicopter rig and a very short hooklink and you may find the tench are still there. Watch Dr Paul Garner's video's on catching big tench on the feeder as tench feed differently to carp especially his underwater video's Bill

  • @jonathanbranson9313
    @jonathanbranson9313 Před 4 lety +3

    That looks like a great day's fishing. I've been having some first attempts at ledgering this week. Apart from a few tangles when using feeders, it's gone surprisingly well. I've re-watched your older feeder/ledger videos and they suddenly make sense 🙂. In one of them you make the point of ditching hooks after a couple of missed bites. You were spot on there; I think that was a big part of the problem I was having previously with losing fish whilst waggler fishing...not so much poor hooks as blunt hooks. Anyway, another great video that leaves me a bit more knowledgeable 👍.

    Hi Bill, it may be busy but the fishing is certainly good. I have the same problems shipping/landing net on the canals and even though I'm in the countryside I still get walkers and cyclists coming along and it would be tackle suicide to ship anything other than parallel to the bank as I find people seem to have no patients these days. Hi bill thank you for another great video. I like the fact the you like fishing more the traditional ways and catching a nice variety of fish. Just a quick question on main like. I used to only use maxima line for years and generally used 3 lb and float and 5 or 6lb for feeder and no more and I'd catch a plenty of good size fish. But now due to limited times I have both feeder and float rods set up. I've used 6lb horizon matrix line on float which is still only 18mm diameter but I've noticed of my line seems to break quite easily. I just store them in a dark garage hanging up. I'm not sure if line can come that brittle in just afew months but I feel like I need change my line yet I've only used them twice. I may just go back to maxima but I know the diameter is quite a bit thicker. Basically what lines do you used for generally feeder and float fishing ?regards martin

    • @easyfishing1936
      @easyfishing1936  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi well I used to use Maxima and Bayer in the past. For the most part I favour Drennan lines. Supplex or extra tuff for the pole. Supplex, series 7, Method feeder and camo specimen on reels, plus nanoline for long range feeder fishing. I use supplex flurocarbon for hooklengths a lot. Breaking strains depend on the conditions. If I was pushed to recommend one line Series 7 would be it. It's cheap and versatile. Drennan rate their lines by knot strength and diameters are accurate. However many anglers will swear by their own choice of brand and it is down to individual choice! Bill

    • @martinhassall7884
      @martinhassall7884 Před 4 lety

      @@easyfishing1936 thanks bill for you comments and taking time to reply. It is a bit of a mine field. I'm just quite shocked that the horizon matrix 6lb and 8lb line a put on my reels a few months ago has gone brittle as it looks really nice line. 3 out of the 4 reels I spooled up have not even come out of my garage which in very dark with no windows. They are exposed hanging up. So I will be putting on new line soon. The 6lb I used for the first time the other on the float and it snapped so easily its scary!! I going general float fishing more then any other method and I going for the roach, bream and tench but there are carp over 15lb and barbel around 5lb which is why I've used this 6lb line with smaller diameter lines. Perhaps I will go for the series 7. Thanks again bill and looking forward to watching more videos.

      I fish the Embankment also, some will say sorry for being close and some just bypass you like your not there. If they could realise that it’s everyone’s river things would be so much better. However if your smart have a little evening session as I find the swims where the rowers row through are better then the ones further near aspects where they don’t go past and with it being evening there not about as much
