You can really hear the Armenian roots of their music when played on ancient instruments like this. It sounds just as natural in this style as it does when played in it's original way. I could listen to this all day.
Grossly underrated comment. I too was like, "oh shit, this is just an Armenian folk dance!" The parts that are "metal" breakdowns in the original are so analogous to the rhythms of eastern folk when played in bardcore.

Considering how much influence SOAD takes from Armenian folk music it doesn't surprise me how natural this sounds as a medieval ballad.
Haven't heard much American folk that sounded like this, the use of Persian and Arabic scales. Maybe you can enlighten me with some that I haven't heard.

This is actually the sound they were going for only electrified and distorted. They were influenced heavily by Armenian folk music which to this day still makes use of many instruments which have been around since medieval times.
