Tom, you really should work on your balancing. 1 second is far to less for the droptime; 2 - 3 seconds is better. When its slower, the top (the camera) will be more stable and wont wabble around that much like here. Also it seems that you are holding the gimbal very tight in your hand while walking, resolving in quite shaky shots, which makes the whole point of it pretty useless.
sorry but the footage looked very shaky...One can use monopod and come out with better results,..
I have a second-hand steadicam pilot with the battery section modded to accept v-locks. Works a treat! I don't usually run with it but for anything normalish speeds it's great.
I just got my RedKing. I wanted a reliable gimbal that I didn't have to worry about at all. My ronin M still works great but having this as a backup for larger cameras is great. Also operating a Steadicam is a great skill to have. It also works with my old vest and arm.

Love your vids Tom, but the stabilizer you’re testing isn’t balanced correctly. When you hold it still, without walking even, it shouldn’t swing at all. If you adjust the length it will solve that issue and your shots will immediately be smoother.
Hi Nick, I have the gear and I extended the tube to max. Do you have any suggestions? It has the same behavior.
@@redumbrella4218 Generally, I have the smoothest results when the stabilizer doesn’t swing at all when you move it back and forth, even at any speed. It should feel like it’s floating. If it’s extended all the way and swinging, reduce the length back down until it stops swinging at all when you move it back and forth. If your camera is too heavy, it will want to flip over. If that’s the case, add more weight to the bottom of the stabilizer. If your camera is too light, add weight right underneath your camera, at the top, where you mount your camera. So, finding the balance is going to be finding a good mix of the right weight for your camera and the length your extending the stabilizer. God I hope I didn’t make things more confusing! 😂

I really liked this one Tom! I just got mine in the mail today to run with my BMPCC6K, Sigma 18-35 Tilta rigged setup. I will need to change the springs now. Its too heavy for the blue ones.
Steadycams should never die or be replaced since they yield such a fluid movement, this floating effect that a gimbal just doesnt have. However every stabilizer has its need. Drones are really taking over. But Im still using my wheelchair & handheld rig. Sometimes a skateboard or tripod extended as a jib. You can always climb on your brothers back & give him orders. Roller skates also works on smooth surfaces. Or riding in the back of the truck. Hey boys whatever is cheaper & faster. If your a real filmaker you dont need excuses and expensive gear just get it done and be quick thinking.
Sweet! I definitely don't think traditional steadicams are dead. They're still what's used most on actual film sets. In most BTS footage they've got a super tricked out rig like this, not a tiny little handheld gimbal. I'm working on a video today actually combining my gimbal and steadicam arm, so I'm stoked to see how it works!
I really want to mount my crane 2 to a flycam or glidecam to see what kind of shots I can get.
Good video, but the test footage was not so helpful! More movement and larger/crowded spaces.
Thanks! I got the package and had about 1 hour to try it out before I had to return to work on a film I am doing. When I have time to do more tests then I will try to do more elaborate tests with other people etc.
Unless you want to carry big cameras and equipment around on set or locations, then that's your option to think the Steadicam Rigs are dead. It shouldn't even be questioned!, as the big rigs carry more equipment and produce smoother fluid shots. I only use tiffen gimbals with DSLR cameras and I use the tiffen iso arm rigs with bigger camera loads as it looks (over kill) operating with A small camera on a iso arm big rig . They will never die in this lifetime that's for sure. Hope you are well Tom. great vid but I think it clearly shows which is the winner here and the quality of steadicam also plays a key role 👍
While that vest makes you look like a robot, a glidecam makes the footage feel organic. I got a HD 2nd hand and love it. Takes time to master the art. Using stabilizer in post can smooth out some beginner mistakes but can also quickly make it look robotic if over done. As with many things in life, it’s a balancing act 😜🎥🎬👊

I like that with the stedicams you don't get these microjitters that you tend to get from time to time with cheaper gimbals with a very light DSLR however they seem a bit hard to use and quite limited in functionality if you want to do vertical pans, roll etc. And they look quite intimidating for a travel video! :D

When you say vertical pan do you mean tilt? You can certainly do tilts and rolls with a steadi.

You did not adjust the springs in the arm to have the same tension. Just one spring was doing all the work

Why is there such a price difference between this steadycam kit (flycam zest + vista II) and a "real" steadycam like a Tiffen?
Good review. I found it hysterical that you're doing 'hero' shots of a plastic shed rather than a model/actor.

Im going to try the Proaim Zest glidecam for my ursa mini pro 4.6k. because it holds 15kg. The DG glidecam was struggling with my my ump4.6k setup
How did it work for you?
@@redumbrella4218 I am now holding the fx6 including top handle and 24-105 lens and the Zest pro + vista II is holding pretty good. I today will try to add the crane 3s. I am curious what happens because I am then touching the 15kg.

When balancing, say using a 18-135mm lense can you only balance it for one focal length? Or balance at max and should work if at lowest?

Thanks for posting your review. I just ordered a Flycam Redking, and if it works well I may invest in their arm/vest product. I intend to use the Redking with Panasonic GH5 and Sony FS5 and suspect I will need to change the springs when changing cameras. Or, do you think the lighter springs will support both cameras? How much of a hassle is it to change springs once you know how? Did you find a video or instructions that show how to change the springs? Maybe you would be interested in doing a video to show this process?

I watched another video when they was setting it up they used 3 seconds you used 2 seconds but in any case it seems to work fine either way you do it. I been watching these for some time now but what’s the difference between the fly cam vista II and ARRI Trinity?

Hi Tim. Roughly how long are you able to run the URSA mini on that 60 watt Sony V mount battery?
Its hard to say since it depends a lot on settings. Resolution, frame rate and screen brightness also mic phantom power all can affect its performance. Also i conserve and turn the camera off when not using it between setups. Sometimes the battery lasts 4 hours other times only 2.

How is the auto focus on the URSA mini? Do you recommend using a wireless follow focus on a steadicam setup?

Hey tom been following since sometime now we are planning onto buying this stedicam our setup is ursaG2 with ssd recorder an idx battery nd a sigma 18-35 f1.8 art lens
Weight of the kit for now is 6kg max if follow focus and things added will go 6.5-7 kg will redking with vista 2 arm take all the load?

I have galaxy 3000 set. The vest and arm are fine for Ursa Mini Pro, but the flycam is to short and I can't stabilise. Do you know any standalone flycam that I can use with Galaxy 3000 and will go with UMP? Thanks in advance :)

You're really trying to balance the camera sitting on a swing bench? Could you be more blase about it?
I love my came-tv steadicam. The one you did a demo for like 3 years ago.. The one you are showing in this video looks like the arm is a complete joke.. There is no conduit for wires... Too much movement too. Could be the breeze, your dynamic balance spin test looked OK. Your came videos looked much more steady.. The came is now in the $800 range. When I got it it a little over $1,200..
I also have the came-tv steadicam and I'm not sure if I really got the heavy spring arm which I ordered.
When I put my Ursa on it with a monitor, mattebox etc it's impossible to handle. The camera hovers at the height of my waist on the highest setting if I don't push it up...
you got the light springs. you can get bigger ones from came and change it like Tom did in this video.
Dude, take off your monitor. You want to get it to a weight where your arm is resting parallel to the ground (flat) when not supported. Somtimes that means stripping the camera down to basics. On the came-tv model you can stick your monitor on the bottom anyway.
I'll write them a complaint then, since I ordered the heavy spring option.
My monitor is mounted on the bottom already, plus everything runs off a 95wh battery so it doesn't require extra weights unless I mount the mattebox. The mattebox adds alot of weight thou, with my 77mm to 114mm ring plus filter...
I also had it mounted on the Came-Tv quick release plate (via the shoulder rig) which is really heavy on its own. Gonna try it again with less weight, if it's still hairy Ima try the heavy springs
he couldn't do the lower monitor with that video because the sled doesn't have a patchbay or wiring down to the bottom. That's pretty much a low end gimbal with a poorly designed arm.
Besides the camera is 30 grand
sigh.... It doesn't matter what an unskilled Steadicam operator can or cannot do. On bug sets Steadicam still riles, but operated by someone who knows what they are doing.
