Ey, I'm the penciler for the first 2 years of animated comics and hero portraits on the boxart. I wasn't the original artist they hired but due to production issues they replaced the original art team and me, my inker and colorist took over. Thanks for featuring Exo-Force! It was such a fun gig as I'm also a big fan of mecha anime. (I also made my own mechs out of several year 1 and 2 sets.)

About halfway through the video you mention the alternate build options. Personally my main problem with Lego now a days is that they don’t do this any more. What makes Lego a unique toy line is that you can build and rebuild, which they’ve seemingly forgot about. They need to bring back rebuilding options on the back of the box or in the instructions or online.

Unfortunately, I doubt they'd do it these days. A lot of the parts to make non-creator or MC sets flashy require specialized elements that can only go together so many ways.
You might be able to mirror the model (like I've done with the Solo Speeder) or change the colours around. But 'official' alternate builds are probably a thing of the past.

This was the series that sparked my love of legos cus I got the sonic phantom one Christmas. after i built it, something about it just clicked with me. i played with that set, all day long and didn’t put it down once and my love for legos was born. Every single birthday wish, christmas list, and allowance i saved up, went towards getting a new exo force set. and lastly, this series was the reason i decided to try and steal something from a store for the very first time... i stole an Uplink set by hiding it in my backpack one day when we went to walmart after my mother picked me up from school. and i passed it off to my mom by saying I, get this, got it as a reward for being the principal’s assistant for the week... to this day, i have no idea why my mom bought that lie and how i got away with stealing it with that flimsy ass lie... :s not my best moment, but hey, i got away with it, and I still have that Uplink set to this day. this series gave me so many good memories, even though its long retired and i hated to see it go, it still remains as my favorite lego series.

It was a Friday, the prior 2 days I just had a big test. I was really worried about failing it. Then I got the grades and I did extremely well on it. Then earlier in the day my dad had to go to the store. When he came home, he had got all he needed. Then he called me into the back room and what he pulled from the bag was the set in 4:29. I was really excited to get and it was a childhood toy. And in 2011 I even found its alternative build, built that, kept it for a hell of a long time, then just recently built it back into its original form.

17:21 Though not completely inaccessible with something like a paperclip, the alt build for the Uplink mech did basically the same thing to the shoulder guards. Still one of my favorite sets of all time. Excellent price, great look, amazing range of motion for the parts at the time. The opposing set to it unfortunately has a much more limited range of motion because of the way its feet are attached, and the way its arms are attached is weird, but Uplink is still great. One of the very few sets in existence to have those lever pieces have the lever in light blue-ish gray too..... If only mechs still had knees.

I've recently gotten inspired by Exo Force to do something similar- A secluded island has been split apart, ravaging the agriculture and wildlife slightly. On one side of the island, an AI advanced enough to make decisions other AIs couldn't, has made extremely advanced armies that live on one half of the island, militarized and organized, whereas the other side of the island has the human resistance, keeping the robots away from their side to the point of making bridges just to fight them. The "good guy" perspective of the story, is the robots. I'm still working on a name for this possible (web)comic, so if some people could reply their ideas, I might chose one. Also the main character, a simple drone, has two red stripes across his mech, his head, and his torso, One big stripe, and one little stripe.
Oh hey and it's kinda inspired by things like Titanfall 2.
Ok sorry, one more thing for The idea, rankings. These are the ranks of the robots
    Circle-drone(standard soldiers, or mech users)
Triangle-Heavy Assault Droid or H.A.D. (like Drones, but their bodies are like mechs, their limbs and torso enlarged, but my brain goes immediately to connections like Minnow's machine when she's in it, like arm nubs connected to arm connection points)
Square-Commander (Are much like Drones, but use much larger mechs, and are much more advanced weapons and AI)
Star-General (like Square designations, but use much more supporting things, are much, much more heavily armored mechs, and have their own free will)
No shape designation/octagon- support(They're just M.R.V.N. units, but instead of tube-like heads with screens at the end, like Circle and up, they have a much more humanoid head)
Edit: Title name idea: *The Shattered Isle*

  • @mynamedoesntmatter9013

Exo-Force was such an underrated series. It was so creative and the pieces were INCREDIBLY interchangeable so I would make whole alt storylines where goodbois get their exosuit trashed and rely on fabricating parts from enemies’ suits to make it home.
The pieces were so easy to play around with, I went beyond just making MOCs and made whole other sets like a pod racer set out of the pieces.
The Exo-Force series had some of the best theming, coloration, and pieces used and I’ll die on this hill saying that!

Well I finally gave this video a complete watch, and honestly, I think you definitely did this justice :) And what you said at the end is absolutely true. Goofy as this line may have seemed, the people behind it clearly put a lot of heart into it, and it really shows. My brother and I were reminiscing over his Exo-Force obsession in the past a few days ago. He mentioned how whenever he planned to buy a new set, he would write it in a notebook called "War Funds", which he would also use to doodle combinations and his own story ideas after reading all the books and comics. Those were good times and I'm really glad you brought back this blast from the past
