Just my opinion, but I find a trend in the motorcycling industry where UK evaluators of motorcycles vs USA evaluators are more upfront and sometimes hard on manufacturers and in many cases justifiably so, whereas you get the feeling the USA people patronize manufacturers and withhold what they really think. It may be an effort to keep the circle of business intact which defeats the purpose of their job to be the buying public's advocate.

Great review, especially on the pricing aspect of the Specialized. They use in house brand tyres and wheels and a few other things too but charge a premium price. You can buy a brand new KTM 790 Duke for less than that S Works. Something very wrong with the bicycle industry.

Superb gentleman! ...Finding the Giant TRX0 rims to be very harsh.
Reign makes for an impeccable trail bike: 140mm fork, Rockshox DeLuxe 57.5mm shock, 180mm rotors, no chain guide, and 175mm cranks. Easily the best trail bike I've ridden. Certainly lightweight. Pedals amazing with 20-25% sag. Actually a phenomenally low rear shock pressure with a bottomless 125 - 130mm rear shock ride quality. ( May be on to something with this shock air pressure setup: something similar to RockShox's Megneg but without a weight penalty for trail riders as this is essentially an under-utilized Enduro level shock. )

Also given that the Sworks got a review in the low & high rear setting, where you able to review the Pivot in the high & low setting for bike handing comparison. The Firebird has the DW-Link and it feels great. Plus like the tester said it has the super boost rear. When I ride mine it feels amazing. I did test ride the S-Works and the 4-bar suspension just felt off to me. I recommend the Firebird but don't take my word for it, go to your local bike shop and test ride one. Buy the bike that feels good to you. Don't rely on popular polls or what the newest trend is.

it's interesting how everyone evolves. the wheel size on bikes is a really cool thing to see evolve over years. I remember when I was riding my first bike and it had 29ers. everyone looked at me like I was crazy but I loved it. I didn't know anything about bikes back then but I didn't care. I loved how fast the bike was but now I just can't ride 29ers because they feel so huge after riding 26s and 27.5 for so long

I love this video because it validates what i surmised. Although the pivot shoulda coulda won. Your intuition on the Enduro was spot on...its exactly what i did on my Firebrd...shorter stem and flipped the chip to higher bb.. against what most may think going higher bb(wth more sag)and steeper HT is in my opinion the way to run most 29rs.
I may even steepin my ht wth an angle set. My bike is one of my favorites ive ever owned. (You are right about the seat tube being a bit to slack. Pivots only mistake)😁 Cheers my brothers.

Agreed with the recommendation of the Pivot FB29. I found a great deal on a 1-year old entry level from my local bike shop mechanic, I am going to dial back the Front FoxShox from 170 to 160 to make it 160/160 then insert the Grip2 and call it my perfect All-Mtn bike. There is enough BB height in the high & low setting to keep the rocks off my pedals :-) Cheers!!!

I would ditch the rear hub for a 350 with 54 tooth engagement. The brakes aren't the best but will run them for a year then put code rsc levers on.

    Couple of questions....
    1. How does the S-Works compare to the Ransom with climbing? I’d find it hard to believe being such a big bike that it’s that good. My preference will be the Ransom with the 38 and some subtle changes to the rider configuration preference. High/Low, and the 27-29 in certain places for riding and the weather.
    2. Once the 38 is released, can you challenge your earlier comments about a 1nDone with the S-Works for Whistler all-in-one Trail-Endro-DH rig? That’s where the interest is for the market at the moment since you’re angle is about the current product offerings.
Great reviews BTW, but that Giant is a mess... The Megatower would’ve balanced offerings as far as travel and design kinematics. 👍🏼

The Fox X2 shock is ace and the coil is even better. 35mm stem works great. Cant stand lock on grips I am old school glue on and lock wire. Shimino brakes never liked them and am running Code RSC and R and great lever feel, but I shim mine with 0.03mm spacers and trail braking is even better with so much feel on downhill tricky sections. Fox Transfer seat post is the best and I have used rockshox as well twice.

Obviously this comes down to each individual and their own preferences I know giant chooses to go slightly less travel because its a 29er and the way they built the bike specifically for 29" wheels usually the 27.5s they have get more travel. I would probably test drive each and choose your favorite. As per noises could of been just the test model? But honestly i like the specialized enduro but like he said would only get the entry model lol

If I am 5'11 and ride a size large santa cruz nomad, should I be on a s3 or s4 specialized enduro? I know that the reach is about the same as my nomad on the s3 and 20mm longer on the s4. I also have a little bit shorter legs as well

Brady White depends on what you want. More stable go s4. More pop etc go s3.

S4 more like an XL Santa Cruz. But check you can get enough seat post insertion in the Enduro on the S4 if you decide to go for it.

At 5’11” go with the S4. It doesn’t feel as big as the numbers suggest

I'm just shy of 5' 11' and I went for the S4. My previous bike was a 2018 GT Sanction Pro Size Large. It is definitely quite a bit bigger when you put them side by side, but after riding the new Enduro for about a month I'm really glad I went with the S4. I did the same as the guy in the test, went with a 40mm stem and put the flip chip in the "high" position and it feels great. And I still have the option to go shorter on the stem if I want. This is hands down the best mountain bike I've ever owned.

Anyone ridden the Giant got any advice on sizing? Giants size chart says size L for anyone up to 6'4 basically, reach is long but at 6'3 I'm not sure

The pivot with a 27.5 in the rear & 29er up front.... no?

Could you elaborate on why the SWAT Conceal Carry Tool didn't work on a 40mm stem?

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  Před 4 lety

When we rotated the SWAT door, it would hit the stem, so the tool couldn't be pulled out. Bascially it needs to rotate 180 degrees, but it can't.

I run a 35mm stem on mine with no issue. Stock it came with 40mm, again no issue. I think it's down to the stem design and running 1 spacer above the stem.
